Why do high cal rounds even exist?

I can pepper someones face with high cal rounds and they can casually swap to a stupidly easy to use sniper and get a free head shot. Please chage the text description on high cal rounds to be more accurate.... high cal rounds =+5 range and nothing more.

  • Flinch is a very real thing. The issue is Bungo’s systems. Despite there being a visual effect of flinch, it will be meaningless if they fire. The server says theyre still on target and no flinch has occurred. It all goes back to the lovely P2P 1990s equipment theyre still rocking to this day. And this will remain an issue until the game’s death because Bungo does not care.

I still like them. My crafted Piece of Mind has High Cal. And I'm nearing 2,000 crucible kills with it, almost 900 of which are in Trials. 🤷‍♂️

  • It also doesn’t help that ppl run double unflinching mods making them practically useless. He is better off as a dueling perk.

    • High cal rounds don’t do anything anymore but for the most part, it doesn’t matter anyway because nobody is taking flinch. If I had a dollar or a euro for each time I shoot someone in the face with a 120 and they land a perfect crit shot with a sniper a split second later, I could buy a car from that money now. It’s ridiculous. People talk about unflinching mods and pulling your reticle down … it’s all BS. So unless this little “mystery” isn’t solved, I think we don’t have to talk about high cal rounds.

    • Snipers have a lot of aim assist and do not flinch. Bungie says they are going to do something then either just don’t do it or they don’t do it correctly. Take stay frosty for instance, they said they were going to take care of the muzzle flash but they did not. They made that gun unusable. There is a lot of talk but not a whole lot of action from Bungie.

      • I’ve been saying this for years, high cal is next to useless. A 4% increase to flinch, are you -blam!- ing kidding me? Should be 10% MINIMUM. Maybe then ricochet rounds won’t have a 90% pick rate on guns.

      • As someone using HCR frequently, I really feel like that they only work in PvE now. In PvP it is such a minor impact (compared to Destiny 1 HCR) that the only real benefit are the +5 range points and a slightly easier time with AI in PvE.

            • Realistically your correct and also not correct. Like and M4 can shoot further distance accurately than an Ak-47 yet an ak uses a larger caliber. But at a closer range I think I would rather get shot with an m4.

High cal’s just ok. Better on faster weapons (autos, pulses, SMGs, sidearms). EP’s better on slower weapons. In PvE it means that every shot flinches red-bar enemies instantly allowing you to stun-lock them (unless Iron is active modifier, where the enemies will just take normal flinch instead - which is better than without High cal where the flinch is severely reduced.) Majors and bosses receive increased flinch by about 30% if I believe, meaning they’ll stagger that much sooner.

            • I use HC on smgs and sidearms and it seems very efficacious to me. Something to think about is that most folks wearing a sniper in pvp know how to use it, and HC rounds is not an "i always win at range" perk. you can predict flinch and set your sniper's crosshairs to land the headshot thru flinch. HC rounds are far more effective when you surprise someone in close combat, and you have the added benefit of making their screen go crazy while they're trying to track you. it's a different ballgame all together when you're relying on flinch to save you in a long range 1v1.

              • Well then you might as well remove them. Accurized and Ricochet will then ridiculously outclass it. They just need to buff the flinch consistency and effect.

I bet it was Beloved. That sniper SPECIFICALLY needs to be tuned, it feels so out of band for how much flinch it blatantly ignores.

                  • High cal rounds are best on full auto/high burst weapons within their desired ranges. Not scouts or hand cannons. Rapid fire scouts could be an exception. High cal rounds lose their potency over range depending on the weapons designed range. Also, do not aim for the head. Flinch per the head is caused by side impacts, not front. You want to aim at the weapon/hand area of someone aiming down their sites. Or, under the chin of an opponent. Combining rapid fire, full auto, or pulse weapons with high cal rounds are then negating the players ability to be blessed by the rng aim assist cone that lets players hit those wtf return shots. Basically, chin/throat area is your target letting your recoil hit the head. Therefore you are getting flinched per return fire on to the opponents crit spot… not them on you. Explosives can create more flinch with head hits because they are explosive and can effect a player as if being shot from the side.

It adds 7.5% flinch post-nerf, explosive payload adds 30%

                  • I don't know how much those will do other than to physically test it in private matches, but if you want to flinch someone I would use something with Explosive Payload.

                  • Mida is supposed to penetrate shields... I can pop 3 to the head and boom they blew my head off with a sniper.. When I use a sniper I flinch off a side arm From 20 meters away and my shot goes skyward 🤣
