From what I understand so far, he is the combination of his people's consciousness. Fine. Why does that make him more powerful than the traveler?
More curious than anything.
Be well.

The witness is the collective consciousness of an entire race. And given the darkness is consciousness based
-
Because the Witness is not just one being, it is a gestalt entity made up of the collective minds of an entire species, led by a singular driving will to bring about the Final Shape. It possesses the collective knowledge and power of its people, a race who had mastered both the power of the Light and the Dark. That is why the Witness is so powerful.

1 ReplyOk, I am every thought in existence, all possible decisions. I am the very fabric of your reality, I am consciousness, I am the consciousness of the universe. (I know we are told a collective species consciousness, but we are also told and should have realized long ago what is and has been going on, and what is being told to us) As the collective consciousness of the universe, I can do what I want...because without me, you don't exist. I can walk in space, because I am space. I can destroy someone with a thought, because they are part of my universal consciousness. I can create things and places, I can destroy them too. I don't need to make any flashy moves, I just have to think, but I make a finger wave to show my thoughts. I am everything and nothing. I am the infants blank slate, to those who have lived ages. I am your next thought, just a pawn and puppet of my design. No need to fear it, I just need to explain it, like I have done infinite times before.

1 ReplyI'm not sure, but I have a theory. Since the Traveler visited the Witness's species way before humanity, they must have started off as a group of individuals with paracausal powers along the same vein as Guardians. Likely, not all of them had these powers, but enough of them did to be significant in some way. Since the Witness is an amalgamation of every single individual of their species, some of whom had paracausal power, and they were the first to experiment with the powers of Darkness, that caused them to grow in strength to the point of rivaling the Traveler, but aligned with the Darkness rather than the Light. In short, they became the Winnower simply by virtue of paracausally pulling themselves together into one cohesive being with power equal and opposite to the Gardener.

Edited by Sol, The Architect Mind: 10/26/2023 1:01:06 PMCan I ask do you know what the traveler is? What it's potential is? Trying to start a discussion mainly.

The Darkness is the power of thought and consciousness, and the Witness came into being through an entire civilization binding their minds together into a single entity through the Veil, the Traveler's other half. That alone would be reason enough. It's also had eons to further grow in power since its formation, and we know a bargain exists between it and the Worm Gods, similar to the one between Ahsa and Eris. With "The Final Shape" on the horizon, we'll probably learn definitively why it is so powerful there. A lot of people just don't have the patience to let stories be told these days, however.
-
Darkness is a power linked to consciousness. The Witness is the unified consciousness of an entire species. Basically means it has more juice in the tank.
-
Combined with all the abilities and knowledge of an entire race, most if not all of those people held darkness, now imagine billions of guardians combined together-all their power-into one single being. Not only that, but they had eons to master darkness, much more time then us Gaurdians have. So, add this up, Billions worth of knowledge, strength, and experience Billions worth of darkness power from experienced wielders Eons to master and develop that darkness to become more powerful and focused Eons of destroying worlds, which made his battle tactics better and better. What do you get? The Witness.
-
Complete 100% speculation. But imagine if all guardians formed into 1 being. But the power being from the veil rather than the traveler.
-
Well the Witness wont be so powerful after Finale Shape. Because he will be..how do i put it..Dead. Thats one of the things Destiny Needed this whole time, was a Joker character. Not a Thanos character, a Joker Character.
Why is the Witness powerful?
Because. . . . . . . Reasons. Now buy more silver.

Imagine hunting something across the universe...so you merge an entire species into one being to try and find them...instead of waiting until you did find the traveller. That's quality storytelling right there.

Because Bungie needed a Thanos But Thanos was built up over like 6 movies, a looming threat slowly getting closer and closer The witness was just invented in a pinch , and bungie said he was the most powerful, like Eris just said we win at the end of this season, writing at its laziest , lowest effort possible The Witness is Rey Nobody, a Mary Sue, a character that has power without earning it or explaining it -
4 RepliesEdited by llSpAxXll: 10/24/2023 10:58:29 AMImagine your own people of your country, all their knowledge, their skill sets, their best endurance and stamina, training in simple things like food and health all the way to science, military strategy, combined with space powers. Now expand that 10 fold from one country to a whole world full of people, All of that in 1 single entity. That’s what we’re facing.
I really hope this fight is going to be epic. Only time will tell. But I want the most it to be complex and most difficult fight we have to figure out on the spot as it changes with each attempt at the encounter. If the day 1 raid can’t be beat within the 24hr mark, then it be mission accomplished for bungie. 🤞
Spent the eons he’s been chasing the traveler learning cool tricks

From what I understand so far, he is the combination of his people's consciousness. Fine. Why does that make him more powerful than the traveler? More curious than anything. Be well.
Destiny borrows heavily from DUNE, the book series. The concept of resurrected Guardians is an almost “carbon copy” of Telaxiu Ghoulas. In Dune, they have a character called the Kwistas Haderach which is similar, almost exactly, like in Dune. It’s basically a superhuman that has inherited all the experiences and memories of mankind to project all possible outcomes of any future. This character eventually becomes God Emperor of the Universe in Dune. In D2, they just make it a brooding emo with powers.

2 RepliesIll answer with a question Why is the traveler this powerful ?
-
Especially when he only uses half the powers the traveler has. It's weird that he is somehow more powerful.
-
The Witness is not only powerful, but super ancient. They are far older than our planet & have been around longer than the Hive. Perhaps the Witness is powerful because of the nature of their biology & tech. If I had to guess, the Witness is a mere copy or was the very first Nightmare being that manifested itself with free will from the Vail.

He is basically chat gpt

He thinks he is the main character of the world and is emo, what else do I gotta say eh? (yes this is a joke)
