So, yeah, title. I'm finding D2 considerably less fun as time goes on due to the difficulty being ramped up further and further.
I haven't really played since last season, so I wanted to load back in and start catching up on everything, see if I can get some nice rolls from FotL, that sort of thing.
I ended up loading into Altars of Summoning today and was getting constantly wrecked. Is this is the pleasant experience I want with seasonal content? I cannot say it is. I can understand Crota's End being unpleasantly hard, it's a raid, but the new dungeon? I've done it a handful of times because, again, unpleasantly hard and bosses with ridiculous health pools.
It's frustrating because this season the seal is cool and I'd like to order the pin, but gosh, Neomuna sucks to be on - difficulty is too high, gameshow announcer is terrible. The seasonal content sucks to play because the difficulty is too high, previous seasonal content sucks to play because the difficulty is too high.
I tried to do the legend mission for the Vexcalibur masterworks and, again, what is with this? This is too hard, and I say that as someone who spent the effort doing a solo legend Seraph's Shield.
I want to do the seasonal content. I want to do the cool story stuff.
The game apparently does not want me to play it.
Edits: Correcting what I mean about Vexcalibur.

2 RepliesGM setup for a fairly good skill level PVE player: Well Warlock, Invis Hunter, Banner Titan And everyone must have wishender. I have only seen one single player in GM lightblade using lament to tank the last boss so that he can revive everyone. But he failed lol then I was looking for omni hunter must kwtd. Raids are mechanics heavy but the issue is more on the players side. People don’t understand that raids need you to turn the mic on. Proper communication and timely execution is the key. Plus 30-40 percent of the players are toxic, 30 percent have no idea whats going on, rest of us trying to figure out how to make it work. Even doing a Crota CP full of ppl wearing crota armor became an issue for me lol.

9 RepliesWe tried a stupid legendary haunted LS last night and was constantly dying due to ad density and having to stand on plates where you are being shot from all sides. Not a fun experience, tried it a few times, switched off and played Div2 the rest of the evening. The problem is they cater to the elites and removed the middle ground of difficulty content. The game now is either way too easy or way too difficult, even Ascendant Nomad (Streamer) said this in his latest video. Bungie needs to re-visit their "Bringing the Challenge Back" BS as they will lose a lot of players, even me and I've got close to 10,000 hours in D2 only. Call it burnout if you want but I'm not willing to play a game just for time wasting and no reward. I've got Conqueror title but not having to sweat the whole time would be nice. Anyhow, jut my opinion, feel free to spout the "Git Gud" bs.

Well maybe you are not building yourself correctly, are you reaching for 70+ resilience for the 20% dmg reduction? Are you using your mods correctly? Are you making viable builds for the activity you are performing? Are you putting yourself in dangerous situations more often then not? You can make the game as difficult as you want or as easy as you want, it depends on you. The game has a bunch of options and builds that are very op against champions, enemies and bosses. Regular Activities need a base line, and this base line needs to be in a point were everything is viable but you need a little bit of sense, now there are mindless activities too that give shitty rewards and rightfully sow because they are easy. Now dungeons, raids, nightfall, trials are endgame activities and the concept is to be hard, to reward amazing loot, to have aspirations. The have flex, to have something to be proud of, to make harder content a bit more easier so that you can go test yourself and feel excitement when completing it (souls game feeling)

6 RepliesYou are entirely correct. Bungie has been catering the game to a tiny hardcore community for some time now. All the 24/7 playing streamer neckbeards have been asking for more difficulty constantly. Because they have an elitist mindset, want to gatekeep content and rewards and want to feel better about themselves. Obviously those clowns can easily do all that now "hard" content. They have all day to play. As a proper developer you should NEVER listen to such elitist minoritites. Those opinions dont matter in the grand scheme. If the vast majority of the playerbase doesnt have fun anymore or atleast has less fun than before, the dumb difficulty change was a failure. And thats clearly the case. But hey, Bungie was always instantly up for pleasing their little streamers which is complete nonsense but thats Bungie i guess. If someone like me who has thousands of hours in the game gets oneshot left and right in a stupid higher difficulty seasonal activity, then thats terrible game design. I have the experience, the gear and the light level. I just dont play a whole lot anymore (half an hour per week max on average because the game is bad nowadays). If you have to constantly build craft and min max broken builds to be able to make this artificial trash "difficulty" semi bearable, then thats terrible game design. But what do we expect by this hypocrititcal junior dev skeleton crew that barely keeps the game on life support these days...

The game was a lot more fun before lightfall i really dont think it was necessary to make the content more difficult even on a casual system it was Witch queen was actually hard day 1 legend difficulty and it was fine and normal but now its been reduced to where you cant even play with some type of ease you have to put more time into adapting to how much damage you take how much effort you put in its pretty ridiculous and i really dont think it was a good idea for lightfalls PVE as well id almost blame a little bit of people who asked for the game to be challenging like it was almost a souls game they wanted and this is what they wanted but consideration is something to be ordered which bungie didnt consider the casual side of pve content for casual player who dont really have the time. (If you wanna say skill issue go ahead it wont change anything) I do stand with this problem of how hard the game actually has gotten cause i still have the feel for how it use to be before Ill never even forget the update where they fixed scorn snipers who were doing double the damage

More power fantasy… less bullet sponge red bars

You must've missed the memo that says to stay alive these days you'll need the advanced degree in build crafting and the time to set it all up with the required well rolled armour/weapons/mods to make it work properly. The days are gone of just jumping into seasonal stuff with a fairly decent build (decent pre Lightfall that is) and having fun. Sadly after 9 years I find the gunplay still fun but the game just feels like too much hard work to set up and I've lost my interest. I'm probably just too old for this now. All the best to the Guardians that still feel the fight.

The problem is that Destiny 2's difficulty scaling isnt challenging. Grand Masters, Master raid's all of these are really easy and have no challenge to players that play cover well. Thats it, theres nothing to it other than being at 100 Resil and staying behind cover. Enemies have 100% accuracy from all angles, you die to 3-5 shots if not less from ads and 1-3 shots from majors/champs. Boss's one shot stomp you. It just a game of keeping you distance and playing cover, which is boring. All endgame is, is just an endurance test of your patience. Why do you think they made it so you have to 4-5 phase the Ghost of the Deep dungeon bosses? Outside of learning mechanics for Raids/Dungeons, Destiny shouldnt be a difficult a game. Bc when they try it just feels bad and boring to play. Witch Queen Legendary Campaign difficulty should be the baseline difficulty scaling for all endgame content imo.

I think you'll find that as your light level comes up, things will get easier. It's a bit of a long process, but I can wander around Neomuna without too much problem now and I'm at 1827 - and once I was passed 1810 or so it was OK. The events there can be challenging, but they'd be boring if they were easy.
gameshow announcer is terrible
Oh good grief, yes, but I think everyone agrees Nimbus is really bad.
-
It's not that "the game doesn't want you to play it." It's just changing and moving in a direction you don't like, which is fine, both on their part and you voicing your displeasure with it. But that's exactly what it is.
-
1 ReplyIt's getting wild. I can do everything, but I'm enjoying less and less stuff. If they keep on going this way, I will be going separate way. I used to play so much more before these changes. I used to reach lvl 400+ during WQ, now I barely reach lvl 150 per season, and that is mostly cause of seasonal challenges. This is no fun.
-
Too much bullet sponge. It needs more cowbell...I meant mobs.

2 RepliesYeah vexcalibur is pretty awful. Altars has garbage modifiers so that could be why you got rekt. Ghosts of the deep, agreed. I love the underwater setting but the dungeon is so unfun I’ve only done it once.

I already said something about difficulty and you are right in other portrayals but finishing H. or Ghost Writer isn't too high on difficulty.
-
The dungeon, I very much agree with you. And this is coming from someone with the seal, it sucks. A lot. GotD just isn’t a fun experience. Last seasons seal, however, was fun imo. I could see how someone would think it’s too hard but tbh I had a ton of fun getting it and the exotic weapon. This seasons seal is ridiculously easy and if you disagree then what in gods name are you smoking. The literal only thing difficult with this season activities is the teir 3 altars. The legend spire is really easy. Only thing from crota that’s difficult is feather light which is actually quite difficult, but imo I kinda like it. This season overall has been pretty easy tbh
-
Altars of Summoning is literally just a bunch of trolls spamming the hardest difficulty encounters, knowing they can't do them. The season wasn't actually that bad, but since Bungie HAS to always ruin it somehow, Altars had to exist. It's written in blood.
-
Kinda agree about Altars, highest difficulty is quite -blam!- hard, especially for lfg activity, while lower difficulties give you such meager progress that it's better to flip highest difficulty and just leave activity if your team can't handle it
-
1 ReplyThe arbitrary conflict of "casual vs elite" has worked too well in regard to transferring the bare manual effort on dev's side to people not gut enough to experience the game That is, from where I stand the game's content pool is at an all-time low, there's really not much to play with and if you want some sort of end game, there's hardly anything except the same strike or seasonal public event labeled "legendary" which is the same strike 15 light over you, so for me, and many people I know, logging in to destiny is a constant struggle over whether I should go lfg for an "end game" level activity I really can't enjoy doing, but with the alternative being reissued garbage like this festival of the lost, my choice is log out and watch forum where original content is
-
I don’t like that their current systems lock power in the lower tier activities IE -5 for hero nightfalls.. just let people over level them like before and leave the lock on maybe master and obviously GM

Edited by fletcher68: 10/23/2023 5:10:07 AMYeah they’re calling making it impossible harder when you clear a room and they materialize and kill you on your head when your rift button is instant death when your DNA button is Insta death apparently you have to die 150 times to complete anything anymore than they’ll let you finish. Like their secret triumphs twilight just did the legendary lost sector need 25 kills apparently it’s still bugged. I have zero. Yes, I wore the right mask. Still bugged still unplayable not any fun. All it does is piss you the -blam!- off. So sick of this the only way the game can kill you is spawning enemies on top of your damn head. And somehow this is supposed to be fun.
-
2 RepliesPretty sure the Legendary Haunted lost sectors are not at Leg difficulty as well. They listen to these 1% streamers who think everyone can do what they can do so they make most things more challenging. Some of the GM's are easier than some of the so-called easier content in the game lol
-
6 RepliesAs always, there's general access, and then everything else is for like 10% of their player base including streamers and gatekeepers who can only feel like their daddy is proud if they have a toy no one else has.
-
I agree. It’s pretty clear that Bungie don’t want people like me to play the game very much. I’m happy to oblige.
-
They need to keep pve sweats happy and streaming, so they created this be elite or suffer atmosphere. Same logic applies to Trials.

2 RepliesI did a Master lost sector for the first time in a long time when it was K1 Revelations and at first i thought something was wrong. I was able to take decent damage and i was able to dish out decent damage and then i realized that "Maximum Effective Light" wasn't a modifier. I can see doing that for a GM, but i don't think it should be on Legend and Master content and if we want to level our characters and be more powerful and make it feel more fair, we should be able to do that. I'm 1832 on my Warlock, i shouldn't be capped at a certain power when i put in the effort and earned that extra power, i don't see the point at all other than us being nerfed to make it challenging. It felt great to power up my guardian and go back into the content and at least be equal with them, but now we are always under, it doesn't feel as fun now anymore. I feel like if i want to do decent damage with a primary weapon, i have to run Wishender with surge mods and the artifact perks keeping my armor charges going and weakening them so they go down in a respectable time. Most other primaries are weak and using one that isn't exotic doesn't feel all that great these days.
