I have done Crota twice. The second time I apparently got necrochasm including the catalyst but I didn't see it anywhere.
As you can see from my screenshots, I have the catalyst which shouldn't be the case if I don't have necrochasm, but I still need to kill Crota according to the quest.
I had zero kills on the white version of the weapon when going into the raid where I got all the popups for the all at once necrochasm reward. I saw the catalyst reward and was told I should have necrochasm in my mailbox, I did not.
I went and got 100 kills with the white version of nechrocasm, now I have the purple version, and I still need to kill Crota to finally get the weapon. I am expecting to get it on my next kill based on what the game is telling me.
It isn't a big deal to kill him again, but I was expecting to have the weapon in my inbox. I assume that because I didn't already get to the kill Crota part of the quest I didn't just get the weapon? Is this expected functionality or some sort of bug?

It normally requires you to collect a number of Essence of Oversoul, but I understand there is a random chance of it auto completing, without needing the full total (35?). Despite the triumph popping however, you won't actually own the catalyst until you, A) earn Necrochasm, B) then do two timed plate puzzles in specific parts of the raid, which is what actually gives you the catalyst. After you do both, since you've already completed the catalyst's other requirement, you can equip it immediately, there is no kills requirement.
