I really like Hawkmoon (especially the one xur sold recently) and I feel like out of all the exotic hand cannons, it needs a buff. Ace is still really good, Sunshot is an absolute beast now, Thorn is getting a cracked catalyst next season, and Lumina is, well, Lumina. Just turn Lumina into a 120 bam done.
But Hawkmoon is supposed to be the “hit your crits so you get a one tap.” gun. But getting one taps just feels like a very extraneous and unnecessary cost. I usually get a 3 tap so i get paracausal x3, and then i empty my mag until i have 2 bullets left. then i can 2 crit T9 res and lower (it doesnt work more often than you think).
but that’s as good as it gets. getting a one tap takes too long, and, the way i use Hawkmoon is very aggressively. I use it like I use every other hand cannon, not trying to heavily play my life. i hate it when other Hawkmoon users just run around peek shooting so they can farm stacks and they only ever end up getting one 1 tap. Hawkmoon feels like it rewards farming stacks, not getting kills, and subsequently, stacks.
The Problem: As of the moment, Hawkmoon is not craft-able, so you have to pray that xur sells a good roll, and Hawkmoon is very low on range, and doesn’t come with a mag, so not getting a good barrel is really detrimental. even with smooth grip + full bore, you’re only sitting at 58 stability, and 67 range. I use small bore, because the tradeoff on stability isn’t worth it. so i think that for a hand cannon that you can’t map with like sunshot or most legendary hand cannons, you mostly need to play aggressively at relatively close range. so, i think hawkmoon should reward kills, while still rewarding crits and close range aggression.
The Buff: As it stands, Hawkmoon gives paracausal charges on crits, and on final blows. So, a good way to reward players who hit their crits, while still getting kills would be to buff its rewards. Now, it should give x2 paracausal for precision final blows.
this way a 3 tap would give x4 paracausal instead of x3 paracausal. another buff which i think should be implemented alongside this buff would be to turn it into a Lightweight frame. lightweights (rose) inherently have lower range and higher handling. so turning this into a lightweight will fit its identity, while giving a slight movement bonus, allowing for players who play aggressively to quickly close in on their opponents.
These buffs would allow Hawkmoon to build more into an aggressive, close range playstyle, allowing it to compete with other top contenders. Let me know what you think, and let’s talk about other buffs you think should be implemented.

7 RepliesIt needs range for sure. Don’t agree with making lumina a 120 though, it’s literally a variant of thorn and rose, both 140s.

7 RepliesHawk moon is fine. It’s one of the best 140s.

Without Holding Aces its not Hawkmoon , just like Ghorn and Wolfpack rounds Paracausal Shot is an insult -
1 ReplyThat sounds like a good buff and you're right that hawkmoon has sometimes felt like it lacks enough of a PvP focused identity. There's something about the way paracausal currently builds up that makes the gun seem like it leans a little too much toward dpsing in PvE. Both of those changes would certainly make it feel more aggressive. I don't use hand cannons that much so my opinion isn't really all that important and know a lot of people are good with that gun, but it has always felt like its just not quite there in PvP to me. In terms of being an exotic and being on the level of something like ace so far its almost always felt like second best so there's no reason it shouldn't be allowed to shine now that handcannons are coming into play more.

1 ReplyIt’ll prolly get a minor buff once it’s craftable

9 RepliesI love how everyone is telling OP that Hawkmoon is fine, but they just keep going "no, it's bad lalalala".

3 RepliesIf you get one kill you have a free two tap enjoy my little trick that make people rage in crucible

19 RepliesHawkmoon is used more often in Competitive PVP than most Legendary and Exotic handcannons, which indicates that Hawkmoon is viable in the current meta. It is used less than Ace, Crimson, and Thorn. It is used more than TLW, Sunshot, Sturm, Malfeasance, Lumina, and Eriana's. If you think Hawkmoon is underpowered, you need to provide some data. Otherwise, all you have is your opinion, which I disagree with.

3 RepliesIt and Outbreak will probably be Craftable in the next season or two so I wouldn’t worry too much

5 RepliesHawkmoon is super good as is

32 Replieschecked you on crucible report. you're at 50% crits on your Hawkmoon last 10 games. It would probably feel better if you got that number up.
-
7 RepliesHawkmoon is still widely considered the current best if not second best 140 in the game I can assure you it does not need any buffs
-
13 Repliesnah hawkmoon is perfect how it is now ,opening shot is the solution , so after the first shot you already got 1m range thanks to the catalyst
-
3 RepliesNo it doesn't. Maybe you need to get a better rolled Hawkmoon?
-
3 RepliesHawk moon is a bit too easy to use to get buffed IMO
-
7 RepliesIt doesn’t need any buffs. It is arguably better than ace. It feels better than ace, there is no bloom because of the catalyst each shot is easier to hit than the last. If you have 5 stacks you can two tap any resil. I just play with it like a normal handcannon and get plenty of 2 taps and 1 taps. This gun is the definition of skill gap.

20 RepliesI'd also like it to get at least 1 pve perk the gun is actually pretty good in pve not the best but in a spot where it's good and I'd like a pve perk to help like vorpal
