Tired of being matched with players on the other side of the world lagging everywhere and shots not registering, and getting killed around corners. If you restricted SBMM to regional players, these issues could be mitigated. Connection quality is so important. When connection is thrown out the window, skill means nothing.
Edit: I see some people equating skill base matchmaking to a fair fight. This couldn’t be farther from the truth for higher skilled players. In reality, the higher your skill, the less fair the game becomes. When the game has to cast a wider net to find players of equal skill the ping disparity increases. The higher the distance, the higher the ping. Because the game uses hybrid servers this creates an advantage for the hosting side. The farther the distance, the bigger the advantage for one side. This is why you often see games ending in mercies. Despite players being of similar skill, one side simply can’t do anything, while the other side can do no wrong.

Like the sound of regional but it would still have the same issues I think ie unbalanced teams they just can't fix it it's beyond them maybe 🙄

Lol there’s no sbmm. It’s so loose it might as well be cbmm at this point. Flawless players everywhere

Edited by Andy: 10/16/2023 8:31:16 AMHah we had US, Europe, Asia as selectable options once upon a time but the player base got so bad bungo dropped that so it could actually populate a game in under 30 mins. I remember queueing on the wrong one every so often and basically being unable to even do damage to anyone. Did anyone get the survey/forum post asking about what changes they could make to PVP to improve it, e.g. spawns, modes etc. I answered when I can one v one someone where we both have the same 3 tap kill weapon but mine takes 10+ hits to kill them and theirs take 1 hit to kill me, or seems to, either its the multiple dmg from one hit issue due to latency or the lag is so bad I only see the one hit and die from full health instantly from my perspective but they actually did shoot x3, which it is I don't know but while that is the normal behaviour it makes any other changes meaningless. I gave up almost totally on PVP in this game seasons back, I don't know what it is with my ISP/connection, no issues with other games but bungos PTP performs for me at a level I would call unplayable now. Though it is not that much better even when it was CBMM because it still goes to those using coffee shop wifi on the dark side of the moon if that is all that is available. It not only needs to be regional it needs to be region locked, i.e. if I set Europe only then I will wait even if it means 10 mins in the queue, not try Europe for 10 secs then match the other side of the planet.

1 ReplyI don't understand. Bungie got rid of lag in Vannilla D2 by hiding other players' connection bar.
-
2 RepliesIt's not true SBMM. Bungie's SBMM includes a filter for connection-quality. You are not sacrificing much. It's why I don't see lag in Comp, even though it uses "strict" SBMM (and it's also why it takes 5 minutes to find games... But that's besides the point).
-
This game does not have an active player base to support sbmm. Get it out of the game.
-
3 RepliesThats not the case here on the oceanic servers. Player base is so small I can't play competitive or any other game mode other than the main one. It just times out and say it can't find enough players so just count yourself lucky you still have people to play against. Often control is 5v5 or 4v4 from the start and the game doesn't find any extras players during the game.

For me, UK, wired, business internet, PS4 2014 to 2020, Xbox series 2020- now, made zero difference if cbmm or sbmm, my lobbies where still heavily middle east, Russia, Asia, somehow crossplay made it worse & it's one of the main reasons I stopped playing.
-
This just happened to me. What’s weird it is it only happened after I left a match. I immediately got matched with players I blocked before that were again lagging like crazy and shooting two wish ended shots at once
-
1 ReplyThere are ultimately not enough people playing crucible at any one time for what you want to matter. I get that the actual math is hard for people to figure out but the truth is at any given time, there are very few people available to match make against, rather sbmm is a thing or not.
-
1 ReplyThat's how the game be when it was on battle.net, ppl need to just recognize that p2p and 50/50 elo mm are just bad regardless
-
Fax I’m always playing with people in South America and they ALWAYS spam the cheesiest stuff lol
-
I haven't been that unfortunate yet. Just bad team balancing in general.

10 RepliesEdited by Lord Indra: 10/15/2023 9:50:48 PMSuch a underrated statement, or fact rather. I vividly remember randomly duo queuing Control in Witch Queen, and the ENTIRE lobby was Brazilian. No exaggeration. Me and my teammate are East Coast USA. Lagging, and teleporting everywhere. The best part is the MM decided to keep everyone in the lobby for several matches unless we backed out, which we did. The comedian Katt Williams made a very intelligent joke once. Sticking up for his fellow comedian friend, he said “If Dave Chappelle was indeed a drug addict, why would he skip over all 50 states (where crack is actually made) to go smoke crack in Africa (where crack isn’t made)”. This was a joke about basic common sense/critical thinking, more-so peoples lack of it. I think about this joke every time I queue up PvP. How tf is a East Coaster landing in Italian, German, South American populated lobbies? I don’t care who I play against, I just want it to be clean. Unfortunately, the way this games infrastructure is setup, that’s not possible. With this fact being common knowledge, why is it not taken into account? Are you really telling me out of the thousands that play D2, the only team you can find me is a German 3-stack? A random Japanese, or Chinese player that is fragging out because nobody can challenge him based off peakers advantage, AND the dmg glitch from bad connection? Nobody in my state plays D2? Nobody 3 states over plays D2? Hypothetically speaking, if we were to assume California is the most dense population of D2 players, the algorithm completely skips over that and puts me on the opposite side of the globe? I’ve randomly matched strangers on my friend list more times than I’ve had clean matches across all PvP modes. Make it make sense.

3 RepliesI had enough time to snipe someone in the head, watch them die, not get credit and start calling bs before the game caught up and was like oh yeah no you did get the kill. Mans was playing with a 5 fps animation the whole game. Winning doesn't even feel like skill is a factor anymore, it's a lottery and you just hope you got the winning ticket.
-
7 RepliesJust asking a general question, not trying to be rude. Is lag an issue because: 1. You match with someone around the world? 2. Bungie’s servers and engine are old/ and or are not the best for a live service multiplayer online game in 2023? 3. It’s an online game, so therefore not everyone will have the same connection setup, and speeds compared to you?

4 RepliesEvery time I get frustrated , I go out and run a hard mile . Then I come back and get frustrated.

They did that in D1. It was pretty good until player numbers dropped in Y3 towards the end. Right now, cross play is the biggest factor in lag. I know this for a fact because I switched to PC after cross play was implemented so I could play solo que with only other PC gamers. Then "Joe" took away solo que. The increase in lag was immediate and severe. I have since quit playing pvp. Aside from that, before they took away solo que I would bounce around between solo or teams and teams was just unplayable. Solo que was the answer. They need to add a "no cross play" playlist so everyone could choose, but then the cross play list would either and die and "Joe" would have to admit he was wrong yet again.

24 RepliesI get your complaint en it’s fair. But you just have to Understand there is no middel ground. Someone has to suffer. And it’s simple bungie statement is if you have bad games you’re probleem in the upperskill lvl. And however f-up this is. You have to have to be separated from the avrg player. And so you have to suffer

1 Reply"Regional SBMM" would essentially be CBMM or queue times longer than someone can graduate from college. The tiny playerbase thats left for pvp combined with the VERY restricted and limited crossplay results in SBMM being effectively impossible in this game. Long queues, terrible lag, sweatfiesta for decent players. It's simply not working. Yet these clowns keep insisting on it because they want money from noobs who think they play well by putting them in a bubble against noobs. Yay, capitalism.

Game just -blam!- man. Let it go. It will always be be -blam!-

East coast gets the big stick from bungie!
-
Yes!! Unbelievable that this seems to even need to be said. As a developer, how do you go absolutely cheap and introduce P2P to your supposed "AAA title" AND not at least have the understanding to restrict connections geographically. Oh that's right, one of the causes of lag isn't distance, right Bungo network team? Thanks for posting. Ignore the incoming "you're just not good" BS from the imbeciles around this forum.

SBMM HAS RUINED PVP REVERT BACK TO CBMM. MAKE D2 GREAT AGAIN!
-
It is regional. I’m in Australia on PC and only match Aussies, Chinese and Singapore mostly. I’ll only match Americans if I’m on an American host.
-
Bungie doesn’t care. I agree with you, and you have more passion than the leaders of this game Bungie has great devs, but the shot callers are awful imo. Let me be a shot caller and destiny is a top 5 game
