How To Be Less Bad At PVP

I played a lot of Solo Trials this weekend, and I have been disappointed by some of the decisions my teammates have made. Here is the advice I wish those new to PVP would follow: Always: 1) Play near cover. 2) When you hear your teammates engaging, do your best to get involved and deal some damage. Even a single shot will distract the enemy and can give your teammate the upper hand. 3) Don't try to get every -blam!-. Leaving someone weak for your teammate to clean up is just as good. Take your 2 or 3 shots, then return to cover. Staying too long in the open is bad. 4) Play the objective. You don't have to sit on the zone, but playing on the same side of the map as the zone can give your team the advantage. It's usually easier to defend an area than push into an area. 5) Play on the same side of the map as your team.. This will result in more team shots and easier revives. It also prevents 3v1 situations at the start of rounds. 6) Control the middle of the map instead of trying to flank. There are more angles in the middle, and team shooting is often easier when done from the middle. Flanking gives the enemy time to play a 3v2, and then, if they notice you flanking, a 3v1. 7) Don't group too closely with your team, especially behind the same piece of cover. Grenades can hit both of you, and it's easy for 1 person to pin down 2 people when they're challenging from the exact same angle. 8) Use a loadout that helps you counter the meta (what is most commonly used). 9) Use a super with a fast cooldown. It's better to get a bad super every game rather than risking not getting your super at all. When LFGing: 10) When possible, use a "normal" loadout. This allows your teammates to play off of you more easily, even when they are unfamiliar with you as an individual. For example: If your teammate is a sniper, you know your teammate will challenge snipe lanes. 11) Use a loadout that allows you to deal consistent damage. You don't want to miss out on kills, because you can't deal damage right away or you can't land your shots. Stay away from weapons that can't deal damage consistently (like Jotunn). When in a Fireteam: 12) Discuss an initial plan. It can be simple, but it helps to know who is doing what. When things go wrong, adjust your strategy. 13) Communicate specific information like enemy weapons, positions, health, and abilities like Decoy, Rift, or Barricade, but it's best to let people focus on the game. Some information is good, ALL the information is bad. Usually, the most important information is which special weapons are being used. 14) Remember what your teammates are using. You can use that information to predict how they will play. 15) Play in a party chat that is focused on the game. You play better when everyone is focused, and having a conversation in the background is a great way to lose focus. (This matters most when playing a tough game) Finally, for goodness sake, DONT LEAVE GAMES EARLY. It's just a scummy thing to do.

 • Another tip Play as if you were alone and dying meant instantly losing. There’s always a bigger fish and you might be that fish in that particular game
