Why tf is the mission so hard? I’m a D2 vet. Since release, actually… A normal exotic quest shouldn’t take 3 fully decked out veterans to even have a chance of completing it. On top of that, if you wipe, you’re sent to orbit. Yay, entire deep dive again, just to get back to the boss. Make the mission easier. More accessible to newer players, too.
And if THAT isn’t enough, it’s even locked behind hours, even days, of RNG-based fishing, constantly interrupted by public events.

If you would like a hand getting it DM and let’s sort it out. Helped around 25 people get it so far.
-
Yes. Either they need to tone down its difficulty or allow you to restart it from after the deep dive part. It shouldn't be long and boring and also super hard. I think i tried it about 15 times before success. Arc warlock with vesper of radius. 2 thunderlords and divinity.
-
5 RepliesIt’s basically required you have divinity and two god roll crafted retrofits or Two thunderlords. I just think it’s dumb that almost every single strategy involves divinity which is something not everyone has and makes this near impossible if you don’t have it.
-
1 ReplyNot sure if ppl know this, but Thunderlord stuns the boss, preventing him from attacking you. Thats how I beat it. Div and 2 Thunderlords. I promise you will shred the boss.

6 RepliesBeing a Vet means jack -blam!-. Have you tried being good at the game?
-
You lost me at "make things accessible to new players." Games that do that spit in the faces of players that put in the time and effort to get the thing you can't get because of a skill issue. RNG is one thing, but complaining because of a skill issue is a you problem.

I’m a D2 vet.
I'm a Sagittarius. Both do the same amount of good in this mission.

Edited by Justin68687112: 10/6/2023 2:10:39 AMYou are not the first person to claim this, and I actually truly believe you even though I never experienced said mission. When the mission came out, these forums, under trending, were flooded with upset players on the difficulty of it. Some will say "skill issue" but is it really, though, when most players feel the same negative opinions about a new activity? Most players have basic skills so if most players struggle with it, is it really quality content? Tons of activities drop all the time without all the trending posts being complaints, usually there isn't a peep about one particular activity that dropped. Though I emphasize with you, and understand it is annoying doing the same thing over and over cause you are trying to find people capable of completing it, Bungie typically does not revisit old seasonal content to make it better due to low use at the current time.

8 RepliesIt's stupid. Same as Avalon legend. It's awful. No reason to be that hard. I had no problems with it, but I hated it anyway.

I don't even know how I completed this mission on my first try. It took, one Strand Warlock, one Strand Titan (me), and a Void Hunter. Even we were surprised at how smooth & easy the mission went. We finished it with 2 minutes left on the clock. I used Deterministic Chaos for damage. The other two used LFRs to down him. The key is to stick together while downing the minotaurs.
-
I lucked out and got it done on the first or second try, though I did use fireteam finder to ensure I was with others who also wanted to do the exotic mission.

4 RepliesEdited by BetweenMyself: 10/4/2023 11:24:46 PMOne important aspect of the Whetstone mission that is easy to overlook is the fact that whenever a Guardian dies, they will lose the buff necessary to deal meaningful damage to the boss for the remainder of that damage phase. Because of this, keeping deaths to an absolute minimum is an essential part of maintaining DPS for the boss fight. Having one or more fireteam members kitted out to improve the survivability of the team (Well-lock with healing grenades, Bubble Titan with Overshield spec, perhaps even Strand Banner Titan) is going to go a long way in helping you keep the team’s damage output where it needs to be. In the same vein, each teammate needs to go in with the mindset that it is vastly preferable to have to temporarily find cover and heal up at the expense of a few seconds of DPS than to die and lose the damage buff for the rest of the phase. Anybody who dies more than once or twice during an attempt should take some time before launching the next attempt to reconsider their build and/or tactics to improve their personal survivability. Once you get together a build that allows fireteam to at least attain a mission time-out in which nobody dies more than once, you can them comfortably make adjustments to try to improve DPS through weapon choice and other considerations. And if worse comes to worse, the weapon should be available at the Monument to Lost Light when Final Shape rolls around. (΄◉◞౪◟◉`)

2 RepliesI wanna know why the bad modifiers stay active but all the good ones turn off the moment you start the exotic mission.

2 RepliesIt's the closest thing now to Zero Hour, Whisper and the Black Spindle mission from D1 available now. Yep it's hard and a pain in the neck. Not sure how Bungie could adjust it. Maybe make it so that you don't need to do the deep dive first if you already made it to the boss once?

2 RepliesI'm a D1 day 1 vet.... do I get a gold star? Mission wasn't too hard. Slightly annoying at best for my group. The gun is utter trash. Used it for 3 minutes and into the vault it went.
-
It’s definitely tricky without the right loadout. When I did it, I had a divinity on my team, and I rallied with 2 slug shotguns and a fourth times linear. This fight is all about having as much ammo for precision weapons as possible. Because of that, forerunner (and exotic sidearm) surprisingly works really well. Machine guns are also solid for their high reserves. You can also stand down a hallway during damage and the boss won’t chase you, making it easier to aim. It’s sorta neat to have a boss that required a unique loadout, it’s just rough to have that be timed and so harshly punished for failing. It’d be awesome if you could hop right back into the hard part, like heroic whisper.

1 ReplyWoahhhhh a d2 vet.......everyone show some respect .
git gud
at the entrance to the final room, you can make the boss confused by standing by the walls you can crouch under. doing this the boss will slowly walk back and forth in fear of your proximity to the crouch walls. 2 guardians camp this spot while the third faster guardian races through the maze to take out the Mino's. then meet back up in that hallway for victory.

3 RepliesI just scored Divinity over the weekend for the stupid mission, now I just need to find two players that can help me get through it and set a time to make an attempt.
-
Also the stingy drops. 3 nightfalls tonight...no exotics. Over a dozen runs in the Lost sector... no exotics. Last week between weasle errors...I got only exotics I already have. The loot drop system is broken and a CHORE. Ones time is more important than this game.

The fishing is RNG within an interval. It is actually predictable, if you spend a lot of time fishing. I wrote this post last season: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/263161893?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=1 As for the Whetstone mission, it is poorly designed, way too difficult. It is ridiculous how many gamers had to find someone with Divinity to complete a mission for a weapon that isn't especially useful in most situations.
