If all the sweats had to play only other sweats in Trials, they wouldn't even play. Because every sweat is afraid of fair competition. The river of tears would literally flood the earth. The only people that should have a hard time in a "competitive" game mode, are the people who don't have or want to spend 8 hours a day in Crucible.

"Fair competition?" Is it fair to pay a professional basketball team the same amount you pay a junior high team? When the purpose of the mode is to have fun and create competitive games (Control, Comp), SBMM works fine. When the purpose of the mode is to reward Skill (Trials), then SBMM doesn't belong UNLESS YOU SCALE REWARDS. No one is afraid of competition. Some players just don't understand the role Trials plays in PVP: It is the ONLY mode where skill is rewarded. Don't make skill meaningless by ruining it.

  •
Is it fair to pay a professional basketball team the same amount you pay a junior high team?
Is it fair to match junior high students against those professionals? If you answered yes, then you made my point, and the answer to your question is also yes. Or you can cut the analogy out completely and just replace junior high with "casuals" and professionals with "hardcores" or whatever they like to be called.

  • If the goal is having fun, then it's probably not fun for a casual to play a professional. But if you're playing in a tournament for the same rewards, then yes. It's absolutely fair for casuals to match professionals. Now, do you want to have multiple tournament brackets? One for casuals with some rewards and one for professionals with a lot of rewards? Then, you can separate the two groups. But as long as both casuals and professionals are competing for the same rewards, they should match each other.
By the way, this only applies to Trials, whose purpose isn't to foster a "fun enviroment," but to "reward skill."
