Why the decision to disable all crafted weapons wasn't made immediately, I will never understand.

When this glitch went community wide, crafted weapons should have been disabled immediately. Would it have been a massive inconvenience? Hell friggn yes. Would it have maintained some amount of integrity? Of course it would. But now we find ourselves dealing with crashing servers and error codes out the -blam!-. Look, I really enjoyed watching all the shenanigans, but it was in no way worth the mess we're being left with. Disabled perks, delayed patches, a delayed Master Raid, etc. Bungie, next time, go with the nuclear option.

  • They just should have banned all players that crafted them until the fix was released. How many players would use a glitch in the future you think? Almost none.

    • Because lots of people only use crafted weapons and dont have ANY normal legendaries that the use or keep. Removing the ability to play the game for some people is a dumb idea.

    • It's looking to me like whatever decision they made would've pissed off a ridiculous number of people. They took a gamble and we all lost, which I think was the likely outcome in any scenario short of rewinding time and stopping the glitch from occurring in the first place. Now they can only try and salvage the situation the best they can.

      • Because in the world of coding, things take time. Even though you want an instant fix, creating a MASSIVE script that disables specific coding embedded into the foundation of a game, takes time. You have to either create a script that runs sequences to remove perks from every unique weapon (your weapons is unique as it is not the same as my crafted weapon via perks and kill counter and shader and etc, so it needs to individually remove it from your weapon). Or. You decode code in the game as a whole, going into each and every perk in the games code and removing it BUT WAIT, that isn't a "press backspace" process. The game is built to run with these things working, so removing it means you have to code for them temporarily not being there. Example: The game is A,B,C and D. If you remove C, it can't work because D relies on A,B, and C existing. So you have to create a new invisible C or remake D into a C. Just cause typing is as simply as pressing backspace to delete, doesn't mean coding is anything like that. They have dependancies and even other perks built off the perks they are having to disable. Things like this take time. The fact they did it in days, was standard. I am 99.9% of the time here just to blame Bungie. But the DDOS and having to disable the glitch is not really there fault, unless we want to talk about how they didn't even catch something so simple as swapping frames really fast to craft frames on weapons you shouldn't. In that case, I would love to sit here and complain about Bungie's amazing incompetence.

Speaking as someone who completely abstained from the glitch, the first few times I saw it mentioned it was mainly portrayed as a way for players to put Intrinsic Exotic effects (like Osteo Striga’s poison) onto Legendary weapons. If the devs were under the same impression I was that this only allowed for Intrinsic Exotic effects to be placed on Legendary weapons, they may have taken a quick look at the list currently craftable Exotic weapons and decided that allowing those few Intrinsic abilities to be temporarily placed on Legendary weapons wouldn’t cause that big of an issue. If the devs only became aware of the fact that a variety of Legendary perks that they hadn’t accounted for could be added to all manner of crafted weapons after they had released their original “have fun” statement, it may account for why they didn’t move to immediately shut things down. This of course is all speculation as that is all that is available to us unless the devs decide to discuss their reasoning behind the initial delay at some point. (΄◉◞౪◟◉`)

      • Because it made the game relevant again, untill they had to cave to you whiners and no personality squares(a boomer insult for someone who always follows the rules) That's why they didn't stop it immediately, they wanted us to have Fun, and if you don't know what that is , look it up

      • They didn't have a way to disable all crafted weapons which is why they let it run.
