As the dust settles on this glitch

As divisive as this glitch was (I know where I stand), I do think it’s illustrated a few important things. Namely, how much more creative you could be with weapon crafting. Obviously these broken weapons are beyond outrageous and people are breezing through content - [I did DSC last night and I didn’t even bother shooting Taniks because someone used the glitch and killed him on his own.] but you could certainly explore the notion of taking elements of guns out and implanting them into new frames to make wholly new weapons with unique attributes. Balancing nightmare? Yes, but certainly more interesting than essentially selecting your weapon roll. As for the glitch itself, I’m glad it’s patched as it was making the game unplayable in PvP and trivial in PvE. I know people are claiming it’s the most fun they’ve had in years and I appreciate that but this type of unrewarding gameplay will get boring fast when you have nothing to chase and no accomplishments mean anything.

Lmao, it was 3 days of chaos. Everyone can stop with this crap now. Pack up your high horses or elitism and go about your business. Whether you liked the glitch and had fun or didn’t like the glitch and didn’t have fun, IT’S OVER. There’s no reason to continue debating over it. We saw how flexible the trait system is and people got loot they didn’t deserve yada yada, no one cares. If you’re really arguing over accomplishments in video games, well……..

      • I'm not sure anyone cares about other people's accomplishments in the grand scope of things they really mean very little. They're something to do in this game of bounties and checkmarks. People who used this weekend to knock out stuff know that they had some serious help. If you did it legit, you should have self-pride about that and nothing should change that. I hope some people did content they might have otherwise tried. So much dev effort goes into stuff that most people don't play. I don't think people want to be OP 24/7, but it's nice to every once in a while to have a bit of power fantasy. You sort of need both sides to appreciate it. Content that you struggle to do and a weekend to do massive damage and feel like a badass. Going into comp. with those weapons is pretty trashy, but everywhere else why not? Although I'm not sure I would have run it in PVP in general. I wish they would schedule a free-for-all crafting week once or twice a season. Or triple damage, something like that. I wish I had used the glitch to patrol neuroma for the weekly seasonal bounty that takes way too many lost sectors to complete. (7% each run :( )

        • Sorry, video game achievements don't mean much to me. Video games are for fun and I had a ton of it this weekend!! Those of you who are on your high horse need to get a life. Get some irl achievements and you'll see how silly your argument is here.......

Bungie literally handed out all the free carries, free loot, quick accomplishments, easy content clears, and fast material farming during this "event" and people were still complaining about it. This type of glitch happens once in a blue moon and it comes and goes faster than you can solo 1 phase Crota with a glitched GL. It's a refresher the players needed and wasn't boring at all because it only lasted a couple of days. If you seized the opportunity and had a blast like I did, props to you. For the rest of the Karens and party poopers out there...I hope this message reaches you in good spirits and you learn to have a little fun sometimes.

          • Game accomplishments don’t mean that much anyway lol… Outside of all those players with their moral high grounds this was fun and i think players can be happy that Bungie didn’t bring the game offline, and let them have a go for more then 2 days…

          • I really didn’t mind the glitch, was fun watching people melt stuff. Only issue was the “must have glitched weapons” that popped up all over lfg. Gave flashbacks to “must have Icebreaker” for oracles in d1.

            • Your entire post is spot-on. I didn't get involved with the crafting (didn't have enough patience to make it work and it would've lowered my sense of achievement a bit) but fun was had by all. However, such a thing is untenable, and had to come to an end. Should Bungie deliberately add something like this on a very limited basis such as a separate PvP playground for a weekend here and there, I'd wager the participation would be impressive. As for ridiculous weapons that were made, an idea I threw out on several different post was to add what I called a 'Q-Branch' crafting area/shooting range for players to experiment with crazy builds, but only with limited usage outside of actual game content. Bungie could use some of those creations as idea for future Exotics or new archetypes to implement at a later time. Unlikely I'm sure, but there's no way to be sure if the idea is never floated.

Then this happens, and suddenly everyone is using the bugged weapons, and anyone that disagrees has been pretty much attacked by the very same "get gud" crowd. There is an amazing lack of self-awareness and not an insignificant amount of hypocrisy being displayed here. I think the gaming community I grew up with has pretty much died off. I'm GenX is case people wondered. The communities now are packed with the kind of people that used to cause trouble on street corners before they decided that gaming was cool, despite calling real gamers needs and dorks and every other pejorative they could think of. Just my take on the whole situation. Again bungie have deflected any criticism of the recent announced changed by setting the community against each other yet again. Divide and Conquer.

                • It sounds weird reading people saying this is the most fun they had in destiny. Nothing against people’s opinion, obviously, but it shows the state the game is at. When an unintentional glitch makes people have “the most fun they had”, something is very wrong with the game.

                  • I definitely can agree with you on the new variety shown for a lot of weapon/perk combinations. Having desperado on a Hipfire 140 handcannon was one of the most interesting combos by far(really only PC viable). Aswell as a carpet bomb bow, and double eager edge. Lots of balancing nightmares, but in terms of replay ability, and the right perk selection, this could change into something fantastic.

I’ve always liked Cerberus so the shotgun autos were pretty cool. I really enjoyed the TTK of them. I don’t know how Destiny could work around that. I’d like to see more body damage and 1 shot head shots. Similar to CoD and other shooters. I’ve never liked the PvP in Destiny - the hand holding and team shooting. I get that things like hand cannons would be OP as hell though so I don’t know how you could ever have that. I liked the TTK because it made team shooting pointless and punished hand holding. It really forced a strategy shift to the gameplay I enjoy - which is a lot of cunning. Baiting radar, locking down lanes and flanking, aerial combat. It promoted a highly aggressive play style. It also promoted more gunplay and fewer abilities. I went flawless - against other people using these weapons - and weapons significantly more overpowered (auto grenade launchers), and I dominated through my strategy.

                    • exactly.. i think its very bad taste to craft weapons that literally nuke stuff cus you could make some actual cool/fun stuff instead i only went into PVP or the crafter to test stuff out, small stuff honestly the type of stuff that bungie could accidentally overlook like an aggressive frame wastelander which handled like dust rock pre nerf or a kamakazi sword it was quite fun just to mess around imagine if we had crafting armor/exotic armor bruh.. now that would have been busted multiple exotics equipped tho the synergy would have been preem it would have fully broken the game i think later on it could be used for underused stuff like instead of reworks allow for cross frames on underused guns and hell maybe even exotic armor that pairs together (as long as its underused) like khepris sting + assassin's cowl type -blam!-

                    • You know, when crafting was first announced, it almost looked like you were gonna be able to choose stuff such as elements and archetypes. I think just having this option would make it more about crafting than choosing weapon rolls.

                      • I mean, I don’t think people actually cared about the rewards at the time, was just a byproduct of stuff of what can be put on this or what can be made with that You were basically let into the weapon creation station if bungie and made wacky stuff that was what got people enjoying it, not the endless grinding or painful things

Fun while it lasted and was never going to get dull with it guaranteed to be short lived. Nobody thought it was going to be forever, despite many grumps acting like it was haha
