So far by all accounts Essence is only guaranteed ONCE per week for your first Crota clear. All subsequent essences are RNG around the 3-5% according to various tests. Currently 6 of the Triumph based essences are locked behind a time gate and 3 are behind flawless which only the best of the best will get. This means for your average player who does the currently available triumphs which reward a total of 5 essence, with terrible rng, the quest will take 15 full weeks of grinding. That is almost 4 months time. While the encounters can be farmed, it is highly inefficient as this feels like grinding for 20 raid exotic drops over the singular normal. The time it takes to complete the quest is almost as long as players have grinded to get Vex Mythoclast for instance. Some might argue that at least it’s guaranteed and it’s sort of better than grinding 160+ clears of a raid, but this feels equally as bad and can force some players into the months long grind anyway. This only encourages farming single encounters and will lead many to hate the raid, I don’t think anyone who had to finish 160+ clears for Vex wants to touch VOG for a long time. Bungie should listen to the community here, with posts on posts getting bumped requesting a change. Many suggestions have floated from buffing drop rates to guaranteeing more drops per week, however they do it, this needs to change because the quest, and even the catalyst is unhealthy.
