Looking for your PVP thoughts

Greetings Guardians of Bungie.net. We would like to hear from all you PVP players out there on what kinds of changes to the Crucible you would like to see in the future. We have a short update from the team on our PVP plans going live in the TWID shortly calling for everyone to share their feedback to help us prioritize what changes we work on to continue to improve the Crucible experience. Whether it’s playlist preferences, matchmaking settings, Trials, comp, or anything else that affects the way Guardians battle each other, please post your feedback below.

  • Abilities are very fun in pvp but they are really frustrating to fight. They are very easy to use and effective. They could be less free, more consistent and more skilful. For example, shield throw flying straight with a big hitbox but having limited tracking, knifes removed tracking but a cooldown buff or shoulder charge reduce tracking angle(mabye some other melees) but reduced energy consumed when moving. This could allow more counterplay unless the powerspike more appropriate (super, kill streak, cornered, etc). I would like to see if ways to get buffs before combat can be be reworked instead of nerfed/buffed eg:(bastion, cyrtarachne's, juggernaut, Antaeus, vanishing step, etc ). These are just examples but if they had stronger but riskier/limited(eg: icefall) functionality they would feel more impact full and fair. New fun modes and maps are very cool but they take time so I wanted to recommend the idea of more earned and fightable power spikes as a design strategy(Not necessarily less often). I'm not a game dev and don't know how much more fun this would be but I wish this strategy could be tried at least.     • I think a protect the leader game mode would be great in 6 vs 6. The leader on both teams are the only players with special abilities. The rest of the the team will rely mainly on gunplay as well as their class ability. This means the leaders have to be the ones slowing the play down for their team mates and using their special abilities to the team’s advantage. Once you kill the leader you will have to crush their ghost saving them from being sniped from across the map. Meaning that you will have to get close in order to finish them. You have 10 seconds to crush the ghost but the enemy team can also revive in that time. Heavy ammo will spawn in the middle halfway through every round. The leader changes every round based on who killed the leader in the previous round, for the opposing team it would be highest kills. This gives players even more of an incentive to be the one to kill the leader. Used to love playing this game mode in gears of war back in the day and think it would be a brilliant addition to the rotating game modes inside pvp! I understand that crushing a guardians ghost doesn’t fit in with the lore but it’s a pvp game mode and an existing mechanic within the game.

    • I've been thinking about this, and what if they made craftable weapons something really special and challenging to obtain? Instead of the red borders idea, they could completely revamp it. Imagine if you had a chance to get a craftable Trials weapon drop, but it was as rare as an exotic drop. Since the focus here is on PvP, let's say you go flawless and then continue grinding out wins on that flawless card. During that journey, you have a chance for a craftable Trials gun to drop. But here's the twist: I don't think you should be able to upgrade it with materials. That way, it keeps the grind and excitement intact. What do you think of this idea?

      • [b]Auto Rifle balance tweaks.[/b] [i](I actually love ARs.)[/i] I am a big fan of ARs and I am very happy to see them in a competitive place at the moment. I know there are growing pains with ARs coming back like the new kid on the block, but as an avid AR enjoyer I am worried about them being nerfed too harshly. I want them to be tweaked without ruining them for even more years. If I were to nerf ARs, I would reduce their intrinsic anti-flinch, and reduce their maximum 100-stat range to be about equal to hand cannons. Autos currently have up to 25% built-in anti flinch based on Stability. If you nerf that down to 20% or 15%, and make their max range equal to Hancannons maximum, I think it might feel a bit better to duel against at distance. That, and/or nerf Ammit's Range by 10 points, because my own Ammit has 91 Range and basically 100 Stability even with Full Bore because of DSR+TTT+Omolon, and its so silly lol

          -Remove AE. It isn't fleshed out, "building into it" is based on what crappy exotic you choose, and what weapons offer better AE. There is disparity in weapons like HC's. -QP and IB shouldn't be less fun than Trials. The fact that I have a more casual experience in Trials versus QP speaks volumes. The team are always imbalanced, and, if you jump in solo, you are relegated to fighting stacks. The higher the skill level, the worse QP experience you will have. -outlier exotic armor needs to be addressed. **cough** anteus wards. Nuke it. Just nuke it already. Also, PK's do too much for one exotic. If they can take melee lunge from ophidians because the exotic had too much going for it, then PK's with its movement speed, AE, auto reload, increased handling, and added stability must be on another level entirely. Exotics have to have a give and take. Ahamkara's spine- does too much to maintain the grenade spam. The grenades are already busted and players gain more grenade energy on hit. Plus, blast radius, burn, and grenade health. Its ridiculous. -weapons: Forerunner- too much ammo starting off. 6= 2 kills. 8= overkill. If Lord of wolves was reduced to 10 because 15 was too much, then the same should be said about Forerunner. Slash it to 6 for balance. Trace rifles- again, too much ammo. Trace rifles are special ammo, have increased range than the average primary and a faster TTK than most primaries. They should have just enough ammo to secure 2 kills with perfect precision. Snipers, shotguns, GL's don't start off with more than 2 shots and those shots don't guarantee kills. Trace rifles shouldn't have enough ammo to essentially guarantee two kills. BALANCE in special Fighting Lion- Has too much going for it. If you have a GL with infinite ammo, it shouldn't have a large blast radius or do as much damage as it does. It's too easy to weaken a player and then clean up with another primary like a sidearm or SMG. The team needs to look at it before it becomes even more troublesome. Wave frame GL's- reduce damage. Ease of use is high. Fusions- its been addressed by the team, but they are absolutely broken in range and perks. Comp: - rewards should be farmable or *craftable*. - Pure rank based Weapon and armour ornaments should be a thing in Trials and reserved as a possible drop in flawless. *Find a way to monetize PvP to ensure a team is made for its continued health in the future. Crazy, I know. Someone has to continue to health once the strike team is gone.

        • The matchmaking still doesn't feel fair at times. Basically doesn't feel like I'm having any real impact on the outcome of the match win or lose. Which makes me not want to play since the outcome feels like it does change based on my play. Combat feels too fast for me; feels like if I don't get the first shot I'm screwed. It doesn't feel good when when pvp balances affect the pve sandbox and vice versa (tower barricade cool down increase). The reason for the increase was given for pvp which makes sense but reason given why the increase was needed for pve. This makes me feel resentful of the pvp game mode, that my power in pve is decreased because of it.

        • I would like to see more reasons to grind pvp. For example, why not for Iron Banner include the Lord of the Hunt ornament for Point of the Stag as a very rare drop (such as the bone armour ornaments this season). There's already a good amount of ornaments in game that are no longer obtainable even after the respected weapons have returned. Instead of putting these legendary ornaments in the bright dust shop as we have seen in the past, I think they should be added to the loot pool as/when the weapons make a return. Further, ornament creation for trials/iron banner weapons (even if it is just 1 new ornament per season) would be a welcome reward addition alongside the emblem and shader drops. Working as a parody of the ritual weapon ornaments available after resetting vendor ranks. (E.g. Guiding Sight just made a comeback, so why not include an ornament for that weapon to get people more invested in farming for a god roll)

        • I'd like to share some thoughts on the Crucible and offer my feedback on potential improvements. Particularly Trials of Osiris, has taken a nosedive in terms of enjoyment and engagement. Trials of Osiris, for one, needs a complete overhaul. Returning to the 3v3 format is non-negotiable. There's an inexplicable thrill and sense of accomplishment that comes with grinding for flawless victories alongside a team. But here's the hypocrisy of it all: I often find myself running solo because 3v3 just isn't worth the trouble. Why would I bother with the coordination and callouts when I can solo queue and face easier opponents? It's a hollow, unsatisfactory experience that's far from exciting. And let's talk about timing. Why on Earth isn't Trials available during Iron Banner? I mean, seriously, who wants to spend an entire week playing Iron Banner? I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole, let alone a full week. Offering Trials as an alternative during such events would inject some much-needed variety into the game. Shifting gears from Trials, Competitive is simply dead. I don't have a magic solution to revive it, but I can certainly tell you what I despise about it. The player pool is so pathetically small that I keep getting matched with the same people over and over. But that's just a symptom of a playlist that isn't fun. What's the motivation here? An emblem? Wow, how thrilling... not. Remember when there were exclusive weapons like Luna's Howl to chase after? That's what made Competitive worthwhile. And don't even get me started on the ranking system. Win a game, and you get a measly +30; lose one, and it's a whopping -200. It's demoralizing and seemingly designed to keep players away from reaching the pinnacle reward, which is currently nothing more than a glorified emblem. In short, I want Trials to be a weekly event, regardless of what else is happening in the Destiny universe. Make the rewards challenging but fun to grind for with a dedicated team, not as a solo player. As for Competitive, it needs an extreme makeover. The only thing worth salvaging is the matchmaking system, which, to its credit, does a decent job of pairing solos with solos and squads with squads. Thank you for your commitment to enhancing the Crucible experience, and I look forward to seeing how these suggestions might be considered for future improvements.

            Bring back 4v4 comp 4v4 comp to make it separate from trials Gamemodes for comp would be: • zone control • clash • rift (but only on 2 or 3 maps) • countdown rush • the new gamemode coming out after relic (I forgot the name) • survival Add a map vote system New UI (as in queuing screen for the lobby) Ornament sets for comp, colors change as rank goes up. Be able to change colors despite being max rank. (For ex., purple to green instead) Design ornaments that light up (not chromas like the trials sets now) Trials Design trials sets to have ornaments that light up (no chromas) Bring back RoI trials sets with ornaments/weapons (though I’m aware y’all have said past assets are difficult) More new unique weapon models Allow for flawless players to choose old ornament sets or pieces from trials of the nine. I have other ideas for sure but I feel like these are the main selling points. Edit: Combined Arms! Bring it back, make it 8v8! Also dedicated servers

            • Hey bungo D1 vet here, first of all thank you for taking the time to listen to us, it means so much to this community. When it comes to pvp there's been some key things that have just been a major pain to me and quite a few others. 1. The matchmaking system: It's my understanding that sbmm was implemented to improve the overall balance between high skill and low skill players in a lobby; however, I have noticed almost the opposite, my games tend to almost always put me in lobbies with high skill players one match then I lose, and the next match is WAY lower skill players who then get mercied, after which I get placed in those high skill lobbies again and lose horribly, and it just perpetuates an unfun cycle. These kinds of systems just don't seem to understand where to place medium-skill players. Not only that but since the matchmaking system prefers skill over connection my matches tend to be a laggy mess (150ms+ average latency or more.) And, sbmm actively works against newer players, as one of the best ways to improve is fighting better opponents than you, and if all you're fighting are people of similar skill, ut'd stunt your growth in skill. 2. Airbone Effectiveness: I understand the point of AE, it's to make in air combat less rewarding without building into it. I would be fine with it if not for the fact that aside from solar warlock with heat rises or strand with thread of ascent, there are next to no viable ways to actively boost your AE to an acceptable lvl (in my opinion 60+ AE) for taking midair gunfights. Thus, leading to a heavily boots on the ground oriented gameplay style that actively punishes you for jumping and/or using movement techniques. 3. Ttks at range: Most guns in this game tend to have a very fast ttk (below 1 second.) This isn't really a problem with short range guns like smgs or sidearms are they're meant to be close range dominators, but when you have weapons that extend past 36 meters killing you in just over 0.7 seconds, you're left wondering, "what just even happened?" There's an especially bad case of that going on with auto rifles. A ton of auto rifles are hitting way past 36-39 meters (some even going so far as to reach 41) for a ttk of 0.7-0.8. These auto rifles are killing so fast from so far that handcannons, even with their peekshotting capabilities, are struggling to manage to fight them effectively. And not only handcannons suffer against them either. Sniper rifles and scout rifles take so much flinch from auto rifles at 36-40 meters of range that even wirh 3 unflinching mods, max, stability and no distractions you'll be lucky if your reticle isn't 3 person's lengths above your target, so they just become an unviable option to use against them. 4. Maps: Myself and many of the other members of the community are growing tired of the same maps every day. Whether we get more brand new maps, reprised D1 maps, or even old D2 maps added back to rotation, we just need something different. Once again, thank you for taking the time to listen to us, and thank you for trying to improve the game we've all loved and adored for years.               • Limit rapid crouching Since there is a limit on sliding there should be one on rapid crouching so annoying to deal with crouch spam shooting especially when they have a macro for it.

                  Slides and spam crouch are too oppressive and screws up dueling fights with weapons. They should have some sort of cooldown/penalty, just like titan's shield bash movement and warlock's icarus dash.

                • Bring back a two player game in crucible. The idea I have is more of rumble meets showdown except it’s to survive and get as many kills or take away kills as possible in the 10 minute cap or reach a score of 30 points as a team. Two person teams, 6 teams and you gain a buff similar to the valentines mode except that you can take away kills with revives. Other than that the only issues I have are that spawns are still broken, too much ability spam, too many over shields, lopsided matchmaking and PC players having an advantage because they can turn and fire faster with no penalties as well as being able to swap weapons faster because of key binds. There should be some way to even the playing field so that when PC players and console players are in the same lobby that the PC players have their turning speed and weapon switch speed brought down to that of console. Oh and are you ever going to address vault space again? I have a great idea on how to fix it.

                  Trials of Osiris! Let talk about the changes that have made it almost impossible for players to go flawless. I have been playing trials since D1 and I have over 212 flawless runs throughout my career and I manage to go flawless at least once every weekend. But it is not all fun and games! Since the match making changes to connection based or whatever it is now and the removal of the flawless and non-flawless pools it is way more difficult. I have heard streamers say oh it is so easy now and you get an extra loss on the Mercy card. But that doesn’t help when I have to sweat in every game and start my runs over because I hit stacks or randoms that are on their 20th flawless run for the weekend and have a 2.5+kd! There can’t be that many 2.5+ players but man are they in my matchmaking way more than the majority of the population who is under a 1.0kd. I would ask that bungie reinstate the old style matchmaking based on the win you are on! That makes since! It should get more difficult as the wins progress making it a real tournament style. I would also ask that the flawless pool be reinstated to pull out the players who clearly have no problem making it flawless against anyone they face. This will also encourage Carrie’s and helping those in the community who want to go flawless but can’t. I have completed 9 sherpas in Trials and I was able to help players who had never been flawless prior to the matchmaking changes and removal of the flawless pool. Now I can barely help myself, let alone anyone else! Also, trials is no longer a team sport! These changes have made it so that even if I put together a stacked 1.5+ kd team we can’t make it past game one for the 2.5+kd teams and because it is connection based they are the only ones we hit every single run. So I tried duos and that is just as bad. So I have to run as a single player which takes a lot of the fun out of it because there is no communication and I go to the lighthouse by myself! I would say that matchmaking, where if I am in a three stack and I only hit three stacks should be removed. It should be random and based on the win you are on. If someone enters a tournament solo they should face the consequences of hitting three stacks. It does give the three stack an advantage, but it encourages players to make those teams. Have a solo playlist for those who want to avoid teams all together. I should not be on my first game of the day playing a two stack who is on there 10th flawless game for the weekend. Trials is supposed to be difficult and it should encourage communication and team play, not solo runs. Just like raids do! You go in with a team! Also, why are PVP players punished for swapping to an exotic that is literally only good while using a super and then swapping back to something that is useful during normal gun fights? I was surprised at this change. It removes the players strategy to utilize their resources and gear that they have spent so much time grinding for. If everyone has the same opportunity to do this why remove it. You have already nerfed most of the exotics that provided any benefit to getting your super back from kills with it. PVP should have a combination of gun skill and strategy utilizing supers and gear. Just some of my thoughts. Thank you to Bungie for providing this opportunity to provide feedback. Hopefully you consider the normal players in the community as opposed to streamers who are profiting off of your choices.

                  • I give up just saw this take from lucky10p “Sbmm is the norm in pvp games so it’s not going anywhere it would be weird” you know what else is the norm in pvp games? DEDICATED SERVERS!. The game is plagued by lag you can’t just throw your hands in the air and give up! I am sick to death of this conversation because it seems so obvious that if you want to retain pvp players focus on people who like playing pvp you can’t have a system that is punishing them for skill the better you get the worse the connections get the worse the game gets.

                  • Dedicated Servers Old game modes & new: mainly crimson days and combined arms. -Crimson days really felt like I had a reason to go into pvp as a casual player. Even if it came back for 2-3 weeks with a new gun and an armor set, it would help fight some of the late season drought. Additionally, this may be fun to throw into the new episode format if it wouldn't interfere with. -Combined arms was another fun game mode and it's one of the first things I check out when I log back into destiny 1, the BTB feel is unbeatable. If you could add more players too it would become a very popular game mode as well. ------Even combining this with relic could add a truly crazy game mode. -An infection game mode, or many of the others listed on other posts Game mode target farming: -If you put certain weapons into certain game modes for say 1-3 days and rotate, you can have people target farm specific drops while also get more players into under represented game modes. Map voting: -Don't need to elaborate much on this Custom games rule editor (since anything like forge could be difficult to make): -I don't know how difficult this would be, but giving players the options to combine rules and gameplay options from different game modes could give players much more freedom in making their own games. -----I say this because providing a map editor would be way too difficult to build and ship and any reasonable time frame and not take away from other aspects of the game. -----Example: Combine the iron banner rules where once all zones are capped it spawns a rift. -----Example: Add zones to a ruble match to have a make shift king of the hill game mode -----So having a more in-depth editor to modify rules and requirements for certain things in games could let the community make more of their own experiences. -If something becomes really popular in the community maybe consider adding it, because if they community made it and like it, then they'll definitely play it.

                  • Anteous ward need to be completely reworked nothing is fun about having to wait for a shield to disappear to shoot just to get shoulder charged shotgunned or reflected that’s ridiculous. Why nerf stompees because people couldn’t look up ??.. it’s not hard to hear a hunter jump please revert it AE would be so much better reverted that’s what made destiny destiny Comp) the win loss point system is horrible I shouldn’t be almost ascendent loose 2 matches and be back to adept 3 what is with the point system the past 2 seasons..                       If at all possible, remove AE. It’s just an overall nuisance to play with. It’s not fun. Even if AE was created because of Strand, it doesn't matter. Players jumped around like crazy, sniping each other in the air before this awful change. Strand wouldn't have made it different. Even if Strand is the problem, add the AE effect when using a grapple or when you get suspended. AE is just an overall bad feature. I still can't believe it's been in the game for a year. I really, REALLY would love it if this were a suggestion y'all would consider. [b]Please[/b], and thank you for the ability to give at least our suggestions on making PvP better from our experiences. PS: Please buff Sunbreaker in PvP…

                    • I would like to see Map voting, similar to what was in Halo Reach. The format would be: -Find a good match of player (example is some times a match gets broken up since it was one sided, wait for a full group of player to get matched up again) -Players have a short window to vote between 3 maps and a neither option If they vote neither then another three maps show up but there is no neither option. There are some maps that people just hate, and giving the player the power to influence what they play on will help. If the map I dislike wins the vote, then at least I voted against it. With new maps interring the map pool with the map pack, I would also like to choice to play on them instead of just hoping for it to appear at the start of a match. Even if this extends the time to get into a match by 30 sec I think it would make my experience better. Now to change things up you can also put in multiple game modes as well. This way you can combine game modes like relic and team scorched. Then in the voting, players get to select the map that has a game mode with it, again like it was in Reach. This will allow for more variety in game mode within the same node, instead of it being on a weekly rotator.
