Looking for your PVP thoughts

Greetings Guardians of Bungie.net. We would like to hear from all you PVP players out there on what kinds of changes to the Crucible you would like to see in the future. We have a short update from the team on our PVP plans going live in the TWID shortly calling for everyone to share their feedback to help us prioritize what changes we work on to continue to improve the Crucible experience. Whether it’s playlist preferences, matchmaking settings, Trials, comp, or anything else that affects the way Guardians battle each other, please post your feedback below.

  • I just want a decent red and black shader. I hate pvp but have been grinding trying to get one and it sucks. There's always one or 2 people who farm us new players and make it a horrible experience.. ruins my whole session. And then the loot isn't even worth the time I put in.. so I just rage quit feeling like I wasted my time just because there are no red and black shaders available anywhere else in the game... seriously.. why?

  • Pv bis broken. Specifically trials. 1_3 are cheaters that bubgie doesn't seem to care about. People leave mid game and we still get a loss. What a waste of time.

  • I almost never play PVP because I’m really not that great at it and your matchmaking is horrible. I came back for 30 minutes and I can tell I shouldn’t have bothered your skill-based matchmaking is garbage. It’s impossible to get just a casual game with other players that aren’t that great literally impossible.

  • I hope comp can get back to being a survival mode only, combination with elim or regular countdown would be okay as well. Don't really like the countdown rush in the comp playlist or the objective based games like rush or rift in comp at all. Other than that, liking this season so far. The dungeon was great, and the seasonal content is good as well.

  • PLEASE REVERT THE DESTINY 2 PVP CRUCIBLE COMPETITIVE PLAYLIST BACK TO SURVIVAL ONLY, 5500 glory max, AND MAYBE EVEN ADD A RESET GLORY FEATURE. EVEN WHEN I GOT BORED OF PVE CONTENT I COULD ENJOY PVP EVERYDAY BECAUSE IT WAS FUN AND EASY FOR A CASUAL PLAYER LIKE MYSELF WITH A FAMILY, LIFE, AND FULL TIME JOB TO HOP ON AFTER WORK AND PLAY PVP AND EVEN HELP NEW LIGHTS. The current pvp is why I left destiny 2 for almost a year now and the old pvp was what kept me playing. Please just return with the old pvp none of this sbmm bs. Just put it back to what it used to be during forsaken, pre witch queen. Otherwise I’ll keep devoting my time to COD and other pvp games

    A mere gamer, determined as hell! - old

    I try and run the minimum every week but before the SBMM I'd flat out get run over in the game. SBMM put me with my peers (low tier I'm sure) but there PvP was fun. I could see people making the same stupid moves I was making and actually learned something from that. I never learned a damn thing prior to SBMM other than take cover and take your beating. SBMM was great. Not sure it's in play anymore as I'm getting my butt kicked again...

    Why I am not really engaging with the Crucible these days: - Abilities are far too direct and too potent for too little effort. Grapple is an amazing idea and what abilities could be like. Useful, but not so blatantly strong for no effort at all. Thinking more along the lines of Valorant abilities where they more so set you up for winning rather than handling the heavy lifting themselves. Damage resistance granted to abilities and supers seems absurdly strong. Instead of having these supers that let you panic activate for some instant DR, I always felt abilities should be very potent when used well, and absolutely a waste when mistimed or misused. Now it feels like most supers are like pity-kill generators where you get basically free kills for nearly no effort. - Weapons are too forgiving in terms of your aim. I fully get that Destiny isn't some tactical shooter, which is fine, and that controllers need some help in certain areas. And even that bringing the effort required down is great to have more players feeling like they're doing well and as such saturating the playlist. - Special ammo: I don't know how you can fix this issue. Having special ammo is fun, as someone who enjoys sniper rifles. Having more ammo means you can take more risks and more fun shots. This is enjoyable. Maybe if sniper rifles were harder to hit the head with and had a much lower bodyshot damage compared to headshot damage, they could retain their scavenger level of ammo in the noncomp playlists without being problematic for the most part, I don't know. I just know that having the ammo be plentiful was far more fun than having the sniper ammo strangled. - Rewards: I don't need rewards to enjoy Crucible. Having my enjoyment resting on my ability to play my character without it resting on a super low skill floor on both abilities and weapons would be enough. I've played a LOT of hours in the Crucible just because it was fun. It doesn't need be more complicated than that; it's a game after all.

  • What I see as most important in the crucible is a strong player population, good connections, and reward for time investment. I think this applies to all playlists and modes but becomes more important and nuanced the more competitive the mode. [u]Connections[/u] – Latency throws off any game regardless of who’s team it’s on, if it’s effecting damage, positioning, or having multiple sparks spawn at the same time in Rift. Makes it hard to know if the engagement you just lost was due to you needing to improve or if you’re just on the wrong side of the connection (let alone if cheaters are in the lobby). Connection outweighs skill in my opinion of matchmaking for that reason. [u]Trials of Osiris[/u] – I honestly believe the best thing for Trials is a healthy amount of loot for time spent playing to keep the population high. I also think that the value only coming from those able to completely crush all opposition is just a barrier to entry keeping many players away. I want to shout out @Ms5000Watts idea that artifice armor would make an excellent addition to rewards (at least that’s where I heard it suggested first). What I would like to see is any player that can get to a 7-win card can earn 1 adept weapon each week with or without losses. I’d also like to see the 3-win reward and the 7-win reward to be a randomly selected high stat artifice drop. I suggest it because I think that would make the player pool healthy and I don’t agree with the level of gatekeeping that is currently in the mode. I still think a flawless trip to the lighthouse needs additional rewards, maybe non-flawless earned armor doesn’t glow, maybe you can earn different colored glows from flawless, maybe there are ornament options from flawless only (armor/weapons), and keeping the ships and emblems as flawless rewards I think makes sense. I think more players would try, knowing whether they succeed or fail they’re guaranteed a reward if they put in the time. [u]Competitive[/u] – I’m not sure what is best for the community when it comes to skill matching, but I do find it frustrating the way that points are rewarded and deducted now. Getting an unknown quantity of points added or deducted is frustrating and losing points on a tie just makes no sense to me. I feel like this mode also suffers from a reward identity issue. Most players that I group with are more casual and they don’t see any value in putting themselves through the grind of competitive PvP right now. [u]General Modes[/u] – I always liked Survival, Clash, Supremacy, and Elimination as modes. I enjoy Control but struggle with how most players play it, often ignoring controlling and defending territory and instead charging the enemy zone over and over again. I also feel that organizing Trials around a control point on a timer just benefits territory control supers which greatly favors Titans and Warlocks.

  • -Do something about servers or make crossplay in trials and comp optional. So much latency. (I know, but it's sooooo bad, people are teleporting, bullets going through people... You get it) -Revert back to the previous trials system. (My teammates in solo trials are on the low end, while the opposite team is stacked 8 out of 10 times - I checked trials report... Maybe my mistake for attempting solo trials...)

    My first impressions on the new Checkmate modifier in Crucible Labs: - The Special Ammo generation bar is really cool. It takes alot of kills, objectives, damage given and taken, but it gives you 3-4 special ammo shots when it fills, and you keep them through death. They feel very special indeed, and I don't want to waste them. It also means more jousting gunfights with primaries instead of special ammo spam. This also has the side effect of making people clump up, so grenades are pretty powerful when used to break up groups, even if the regen for them is halved. - The slowed ability sandbox actually feels pretty OK. Its nice to have much less grenade spam, less Barricade spam, etc etc etc. They're all more valuable now, don't waste them. Though its hard to get a Super some games. I'm also not sure about the melee damage right now, but that may just be my muscle memory messing me up. Healing Grenades and Overshields are incredibly powerful. - I kinda hated the weapon sandbox damage tweaks at first, because I didn't understand them yet. I think I like them a bit more after about 10 games. What I think happens in Checkmate is we get more HP (I'd guess somewhere around 220-230). Crit damage goes up, so we can still optimal TTK people in about the same-ish time as before (slightly slower in some instances), but body shot damage is way less impactful. This means that most meta guns kill in the same amount of time, but all the emphasis is put on landing your crits, and bodyshots are more punishing. - This, together with less special ammo, turns it into a mode that is a little bit slower. Gunfights can take longer, and people are holding hands more. But really punishes people who miss their crits. I think I like that... It felt really weird for Sidearms to feel so low in damage, but then I remembered there's much less shotgun and fusion rifle ammo to counter them! I think Traveler's Chosen could be powerful in this slow ability economy. However I think 120 handcannons are a bit OP in this mode. They seem to be just as forgiving and high-range as normal with basically no drawbacks... Or maybe its just Igneous Hammer (Adept) being such a stat monster in a dueling-focused mode? Eh. Also I think Fighting Lion might be a problem. It feels like it chunks harder than an infinite ammo GL should. I'll play lots more to gather better feedback. There's lots of testing to be done, and other weird things to check out (Does Sunshot need 3C 1B to kill now, or was that just Titan Resil talking???) but so far, first impressions are good!

  • 1. BRING BACK 4v4 ( 4v4 Playlist) D2 has many solid maps that were obviously designed with 4v4 in mind. My brother, 2 cousins and I would spend hours playing 4v4 and when this was removed, both my cousins stopped playing entirely and my brother hardly touches the game now. CREATE A 4v4 PLAYLIST! Not everyone wants 6v6 nor the seriousness of 3v3, 4v4 provides a good middle ground. 2. TRIALS OF THE NINE / COMPETITIVE Trials of the Nine had some of the best looking guns, armor, aesthetics, period. Besides the 3 matches in Comp, Competitive is lacking hardcore. How about changing the "Competitive" to "Trials of the Nine". Trials of the Nine was a competitive game mode and the more devout PvP community would appreciate a competitive and REWARDING avenue to play while waiting for Trials of Osiris. Don't introduce "Flawless" or "Adept" weapons to this playlist, as that is the appeal of Trials of Osiris, maybe, allow craftable Trials of the Nine weapons? (This would also make it distinctly different from Trials of Osiris) Maybe require 10-20 red borders to encourage repeat play. Sounds excessive yes but, you need the playlist thriving with players of all sorts of skill levels. Rename it, tweak it, anything but, Trials of the Nine, as a game mode, should be revisited and rebranded as the new Comp playlist. 3. Map Voting / Map Vaulting Some maps play better than others, collect data and vault maps that are not popular. An original D2 map, Emperor's Respite, was different and enjoyable, but hardly ever got rotation except in competitive. Bring some original D2 maps back while implementing a 4v4 playlist, as recommended earlier. 4. Address broken weapons, armor and abilities in PvP Faster. Bungie is swift and efficient at fixing bugs that affect the in-game economy (i.e any shard farm) by sending out hotfixes or disabling certain gear but appear to drag their feet when something in PvP is too powerful (Original Wormhusk, Original one-eye mask, original shatterdive combo, etc). Keep it fair - If you can address players getting 1000 legendary shards, then you can address players getting 1000 kills by using blatantly broken items or abilities.

    • Great job with wards and spine!!! Shards whatever just make sure we get tons of glimmer from crucible match’s that can’t be cheased for glimmer like pve. I don’t want to kill the same boss over and over for glimmer coz.

    • 1. Fix servers to stop lagging and been shot behind cover. It’s a joke! 2. Have specific PvP weapon quests and armour sets to play for something we can work towards that rewards us for our time spent in PvP. Bring back revised PvP dedicated weapons remember those! 3. New maps make them small and not big that take ages to get back into the fight. There’s too much running in this game. My character is going to need new knees at this rate. 4. You say we are getting a PvP update can you share more with the community? 5. Spawn locations need revising and should spawn you near an ally to keep you near the fight not at the back of the map which again takes forever to get back into the action. 6. Will Destiny ever get dedicated PvP servers? Something to think about for Destiny or your next game. 7. LFG in game instead of through separate apps would be an idea. Be able to customise LFG to region. Thanks for reading. We look forward to the changes hopefully for the better.

    • Make the trials/comp all pvp activities playable and not a lag feast. No skills can beat lags !! I.e don t match players from opposite side of the world and expect a fair game. I rather play a sweaty than a laggy

    • Also remove large maps from comp... I shouldn't have to spend 90% of a comp game finding a red ping on radar never mind find an enemy player. The new map shouldn't be in comp or any 3v3 game modes. Heck just vault the map along with disjunction and bring two old maps back because no one enjoys the 2 new maps you've brought in the game in any game mode.

    • I would like to see after 7 wins on a flawed card in Trials that we could go to the lighthouse and open a chest. Have 2 chests there, one for flawless and one for flawed. This would entice more people to play trials.

      • Trials and competitive rewards should be cosmetic. Making the best guns exclusive to the best players only creates a bigger "skill" gap, and incentiveses cheating and carries. Stop removing maps. Why is this even a thing? Give them all back. Gambit maps too. Fire whoever made this decision. No reason snipers should be able to 1 shot to the body. Good for streamer montage videos but bad for the game. Too many damage mods now. Cap sniper body damage.

        • Here's a change that needs to happen. Stop with in game notifications while mid matches, I don't care if little Jim wants to be my friend while I'm in a 1v1. I don't care about my seasonal rank going up while in a 1v1
