Crota's End D2 Guide

Central Mechanic: Chalice of Light The Chalice will appear in every section of the Raid and has the same few actions which will be used in different ways. To simplify later explanations, this is how it works. When you collect the Chalice from its podium, you will have a bar that slowly fills up over time, and gains a small amount when killing enemies. When the bar is full, you will have 10 seconds for someone to take the Chalice from you by interacting, or else you will die. If they take when the bar is full, you will receive the Enlightened buff. When you perform a relevant action in an encounter, you will lose Enlightened and gain Drained of Light for ~45 seconds. With either of these, you cannot hold the Chalice. The Hellmouth A working example of how the Chalice rotations will happen. Have someone collect it, all stand on the plate and kill enemies. When the bar is full, the player should call out and have someone take it. The player that had it will now be Enlighetened, and they can deposit this buff into the plate to speed up the bridge-building process. The Stills While in the maze, you will gain stacks of Weight of Darkness, up to 10x, which slow your movement, preventing sprint and double jump. There is also Engulfed in Darkness, which is a 60 second timer that will kill you upon reaching zero. Collect the Chalice and approach the first lantern. Unlike D1, this will not automatically clear Weight of Darkness. To make this happen, the lantern needs to be Enlightened. Further lamps will also not be active. To activate them, place the Chalice into a podium which is near the lantern - in this case, to its right. This is called Preserving, and will also be a recurring mechanic. Performing either of these actions will reset the Engulfed in Darkness timer. Be sure to leave before the lantern explodes, which is shortly after it turns orange. Move forward as a group; Eager Edge is more likely to get you killed and slow the whole team down than be helpful. Watch out for the pits and swinging deathtraps, which have a deceptively large hitbox. Rotate the Chalice as necessary and Enlighten lanterns regularly. Always check the next lantern before leaving; if it is not lit up green, then you need to Preserve the Chalice at your current lantern. When you reach the end of the section, there will be a plate to defend from Thralls, Knights and Unstoppable Ogres. Activating the plate will remove Engulfed in Darkness completely. Rotate the Chalice some more and deposit Enlightened into the plate to make the bridge appear faster. The bridge will complete, but still appear piece by piece as you cross, so don't move too fast. There are also the swinging things here, so avoid them. Enter the light to end the encounter. The Bridge Have two people stand on the centre plate to form the Bridge, and one of these people take the Chalice. Also assign two people to each Totem. Players on Totems will have to deal with regular Barrier Knights, so prepare accordingly. Move the Chalice to the second player in the centre and deposit Enlightened into the plate. Next, you want to move the Chalice such that 5 players become Enlighten, the person who took it first should be the only one without it. They will take the Chalice again when everyone else is Enlightened. At roughly the same time, the Bridge should have formed and Swordbearers will be spawning. You can only cross the Bridge when holding the Chalice or a Hive Sword. You can only pick up a Hive Sword when Enlightened. When you have 5 Enlightened players, the Chalice holder should cross ASAP and an Enlightened player go after getting a Sword. The Chalice holder will Preserve it using a podium at the base of the stairs on the other side. Sword holder will kill a Gatekeeper, then Preserve the Sword when prompted. Have one more Enlightened player from the original side take a Sword, cross and kill a Gatekeeper. When 3 players are on the other side, they will use the central plate and Totems on that side to maintain the bridge. Players on the original side can leave their positions and focus solely on finding Swordbearers. A safe place to wait is the place you spawn at in the encounter, enemies will not follow you up here. Have these remaining 3 players cross the Bridge when they are able. When everyone has crossed, you can get off the plate and Totems. Retake the Chalice and rotate it until at least 2 or 3 people are Enligheted, then Preserve again. Kill enemies until Ogres spawn at the far sides of the area, kill them to trigger a wave of Gatekeepers in the middle. Kill the Gatekeepers to finish the encounter. Thrallway Collect the Chalice, kill Thrall and the occasional Knight. Only an Enligheted player can pass through the green walls, killing the Shrieker beyond it will open it for everyone. Repeat this process until the end of the area, then Preserve the Chalice. If you are fast enough, you can enter a door to find a chest. Ir Yut, the Deathsinger Well of Radiance is very strong, as always. Divinity is very helpful, as the boss moves a lot and the crit bubble will make things a lot easier, even if it isn't optimal. Rockets, Thunderlord and Leviathan's Breath are all good choices. Cenotaph Mask Warlocks will have a field day with all the miniboss-tier enemies. Move into the open area and kill all of the Blistered Knights. There are 4 in the pit and 2 on the catwalk. Split into two groups, left and right, enter the chamber and kill enemies until the Shriekers open, kill these to access the crystal room. In the crystal room is the Chalice, which should immediately be rotated so that at least 3 people are Enlighened. Simultaneously, send at least two players on scouting runs. They will check the 7 locked rooms in the arena; 2 in each tower (left and right towers, rooms are top and bottom), and 3 above the crystal room (mid left, mid mid, mid right). All callout directions are based on facing the Oversoul, the big green thing in the sky. The scouts are looking for the 3 rooms containing Wizards, the other rooms will have Shriekers and should be ignored. Send Enlightened players into the rooms with Wizards as soon as possible, but do not kill them. Note that entering the room will consume your Enlightened buff. When every Wizard is accounted for, kill them together. When one Wizard dies, it will begin the 45-second Dark Liturgy timer, and you should run back to the crystal room after killing yours. When all the Wizards are dead, the boss' shield will lower and about a third of the health bar will light up. You must do this amount of damage before the timer expires or else you will wipe, if you succeed then continue to do damage until it's over. The big plate next to the boss is a good place to deal damage from. While players are killing the Wizards, you have two options for the Chalice. You can either Preserve it on a podium below the crystal room - you walk past it, on the blue plate, when entering the encounter. Alternatively, you can keep rotating it, which is recommended. This will give one or two players Enlightened during damage. This can be used to Expunge the boss, which does a chunk of damage and uses your buff - not recommended. This is because, in the second phase, you need to Enlighten 4 players to kill 4 Wizards. In the third phase, if you need it, you will have to Enlighten 5 players for 5 Wizards. If you Preserve the Chalice, you will likely not have enough time to Enlighten that many players before the Dark Liturgy starts on its own, so rotating it during damage will give you a head-start. Crota, Son of Oryx Wells and Bubbles are necessary. Have a player with Tractor Cannon and everyone else on Swords; The Lament or a well-rolled Vortex Frame. Cenotaph Mask and Aeon gauntlets are recommended, as there's not much ammo. The Swordbearer is the only enemy which these can be used on. Stand around the crystal to begin the encounter. Exit through the sides of the room and kill the enemies. Send a player on each side to the upper part of the towers to kill the infamous Boomer Knights. Have someone else collect the Chalice from a podium in the centre of the pit. When the Knights are dead, this will spawn two Ogres in the pit and a Swordbearer from the central door. Rotate the Chalice until 3 players are Enlightened, have a 4th player Preserve it in the same location as you can use for Ir Yut. The Chalice can only be moved in specific places, denoted by a blue glowing light. There are 3 locations in the pit, and two on the raised platform near where Crota spawns. Have one player pick up the Sword; delay killing the Swordbearer if possible. Kill another set of Boomer Knights to make more Ogres and another Sworbearer, so a second player can get a Sword. When you have two Swords and an Enlightened player, debuff Crota with Tractor Cannon and have the two Sword users attack. I'm sure people will figure out the optimal combo, but Light - Heavy - Super - spam Light seems to work. The Swords will despawn a few seconds after you first damage Crota. When his shield is broken, he will kneel and be vulnerable to all damage. Plant a Well at his feet and go ham. When he kneels, he will also activate the Oversoul. A timer will be displayed for 30 seconds and you will die at the end of it unless the Enlightened player destroys it. Destroying it, however, will also end the damage phase, so do this as late as possible. It seems quite true to time, so destroying it at 1 second left is safe. Fusion Rifles are very good for this, it only takes a couple of shots at any range, just be sure to time appropriately. Do not use the buff to Expunge. When Crota reaches final stand, his shield will briefly return and he will knock players back. Then, his shield will automatically disappear. The Oversoul will activate, but with a 20 second timer. After it is destroyed, you have a further 10 seconds to kill him before you wipe.
