I don't know about you, but to me what was said yesterday was them getting excuses in ahead of time & answering questions without being direct. This along with previous leaks all add up to this
Confirmed :
After final shape we get episodes, 3 per year, when asked what comes next, we where told episode 4 (not an expansion)
They're going to go all in on cutscenes, lots & lots of cutscenes, & people are happy about this.
Season pass goes to 200, timegaited to 100/50/50 every 6 weeks.
There's still a 'few' people wanting to make content for D2.
Leaks : nothing too deep, just an outline of what's next
These leaks have been known for 18 months. After final shape we get less seasons per year, more cosmetics (think cod pass)cutscene heavy, with no activity or vendor. Workforce being cut right down to bare minimum, year 2025 sees no content, possible seasons if playerbase still big enough, everyone moved away to get marathon tested/relessed.
So seasons are now episodes, but everything lines up with barebones content to keep the hardcore logging in every month or so, they're gonna lose casuals & average players, they know this. Episodes will continue for as long as it's profitable. No more reprised raids. the game will stay as it is from FS onwards outside of next year's 2 dungeons.
Potential expansion targeted for new console release around 2028, a 3 year trilogy in this D2 game. This story will be dished out in episodes if player numbers don't justify an expansion, or dropped if they stop hitting profit targets.
They're hoping people stay, they're hoping to get back in the D2 ride in the future, but fully expect the ship to sink
I've not pre ordered, & how I feel now I'll not buy it, I played this morning & it felt hollow, like what's the point. I already know how the story ends & I've never been big on story anyway. I've always pre ordered before but this time I can't in good faith give them more money for something so vague, I was always buying into the future but it's clear (to me) that there very likely isn't one.
Cheers

2 RepliesSo episodes will be even more lackluster than seasons, huh... Definitely not worth sticking around for any of that, there will only be hope for this franchise if marathon flops hard.

Edited by JD: 8/25/2023 6:55:18 AMThey literally said in the TWID episodes will have way more content than seasons. This leak is false sorry to tell you. We’re still getting dungeons and a reprised raid in final shape year. WOTM emblem was literally in the showcase you think they teased that for no reason.
-
Any validity to that? Or just going to throw random speculation up? Don’t get me wrong. If that is the case. I’ll prob just uninstall and call it now. But I don’t see why they wouldn’t continue d2. Other than conflicts with marathon etc.

Where did you get the info for the leaks?

Edited by Wanderer: 8/24/2023 6:00:17 PMDestiny 2 will be similar to what guild wars 1 was when arenanet decided to release guild wars 2. A few people at arenanet stayed behind to work on guild wars 1 content. It was as you'd expect. edit: Seriously, if you are addicted to destiny 2 you are not doing your future self any favours.

2 RepliesEdited by Keythe: 8/23/2023 4:04:05 PMThat's just sad, but it confirms that I made the right decision to just uninstall and not buy anything. If I'm really curious, I can watch cut scenes on youtube. If I'm surprised in some way, I can always play in the future. But, I think perhaps my last Destiny 2 log in was in June. There wasn't even anything exciting in the Showcase. Oh well. Good thing there are a lot of games out there to enjoy. Also, I noticed they said there would be no open beta for Final Shape, and they framed it as wanting things to be a surprise. But, that's really not how you sell expansions or DLC's, and it just says to me that they don't have enough people to deal with an open beta, or any changes. It is what it is and that's all that it is.

4 RepliesI want a D3. Hard reset learn from the past (not another vanilla D2). Even if it means selling the franchise to someone who will bring back the passion.
-
“Content” also means stuff like the bounty and quest menu. So beware what you expect vs what you get.

18 RepliesTo be fair to them, it was always planned to be a 10 year project. Succeeding at that is no small achievement. Going beyond that (even if it’s only episodes) is a bonus for anyone wanting to continue. A huge investment in the game would likely only come with a D3 (if such a thing happens at all). That would be the opportunity to bring in a lot of new players and make the investment worthwhile from their perspective.

9 RepliesEdited by Lucky McKillya: 8/23/2023 5:43:56 PMWhere are these leaks coming from? Are they authentic or is it just speculative? Why are they adding a ton of QoL to the game to just let it fizzle after a year. The community hasnt ever had them so it wouldnt be missed. Just seems like a lot of frontal work for some of those to be true.

2 RepliesLMAO. That spoiler is absolutely hilarious

Like I will be for the next 3 and a half weeks. Play how you want my arsenal. Autocorrect go for it

They just released the first info on episodes but so far it does seem like they will help make the story more cohesive (when it should be) and also help provide more guideposts as the game gets even bigger. I didn't see anything in the reveal that really made it look like the game was getting smaller. Some things might become more population dependent but, with raids for example, how many are there left to reprise? We should expect destiny to change some as they move towards having two games, so there's nothing wrong with trying to understand what's happening on that front. But so far they really just seem to be doing things that have been discussed throughout the greater community when it comes to episodes. It does sound like the point of them is to be better than the seasonal model. Something about it just comes across as more "solid" as well.
-
So we have episodes instead of seasons.. how is this name change actually changing the game play loop we have all been running on for a few years now? The part we didn't get was the actual important information of HOW it will change. A new name and potentially less content with having only 3 instead of 4? will it be the same 6 man horde activity and a 3 man something else? Will there be raids and dungeons after the final shape and its raid? Will there be dungeons contained within these episodes or will they be separate or non existent?
-
1 ReplyThe part that worries me is they didn't even mention if they will still be putting raids in the game after Final Shape.
