Baldur’s Gate is 100% should be the Gold Standard for Gaming moving forward. For too long Game Devs have been lazy and complaining that “Game Development is Hard” and they take the lazy way out, half -blam!-ing their Games and stuffing the game with Microtransactions and other garbage that Bungie stuffs into Destiny, Blizzard stuffs into Diablo 4 etc. Devs care more about money that they don’t realize that when you make a good product, money will passively come and they wouldn’t need Microtransactions at all or at least every little of them. Destin is absolutely correct in everything to states in this video about Modern Gaming and how they should all emulate Baldur’s Gate. Give it a watch, then let me know if you agree or disagree.

It should just be THE standard, like what the -blam!-??? A $60 game from a fairly sized company that created a fantastic & fun adventure with no micro or macro transactions included, not to mention the game is fully functional with barely an bugs and also has a great soundtrack to boot. I’m sorry, but wasn’t this the standard before the battle passes and $30 emotes plagued our video games?? My point is that this praise that BG3 is receiving, and which it most certainly deserves, isn’t something we should’ve been cheering in the first place had these video game companies not decided to let Greed and MBA hotshots take control of the ship and lead us into an abyss of Macro and Microtransactions!

This guy should do Fireteam Chat again. They would have plenty to talk about these days on that show.

1 ReplyDamn he really came for Bungie in that video

Microtransactions are incredibly profitable. Corporate companies like profit.
-
Only one thing to argue, it is not the devs that care about money. They are the ones creating the game while being pigeonholed into what management wants, and all management wants is what they can see out of their dollar sign shaped pupils.
Devs care more about money…
You need to understand the terms you’re using. Devs don’t get paid any more or less regardless of a games success. You’re taking about stakeholders. When Bungie sold the company to Sony the stakeholders are the only ones who got paid. Devs don’t see a dime from any kind of sales. There’s zero motivation for them on that front. I’m sure there’s plenty who don’t care to work hard because hard work sucks. But it has nothing to do with money.

Edited by jack_zedd: 8/14/2023 9:11:04 PMSpot on. When devs are defending the “LeT’s NoT OvErDeLiVeR” mindset, they simply shouldn’t be allowed to be a part of the game development decision process. They are a problem. Of course big soulless corporations as bungie will promote this disgustingly greedy mindset so that they can keep the handful of employees that actually give a f without a voice. It’s align with them or kiss your career goodbye. Where are the bungie employees who celebrated splitting with activision now?

Dustin is very well spoken and knows what he's talking about... particularly when it comes to Destiny. Y'all that are mindlessly continuing to throw money at the game, that's your choice. But, frankly, it's an irresponsible one that allows Bungie the excuse to continue picking pockets on an astronomically easy scale.

Gamers need to stop talking and stop spending...they only have themselves to blame.

And this coming from a former Destiny fanboy.

2 RepliesGames went downhill when businessmen started making the decisions instead of the devs. At this point I'm convinced the only thing that'll fix the game is if half the Bungie studio walks out because they're tired of doing the work of what a PvP team should be doing and the playerbase jumps ship with them. Gaming devs listen to feedback with their ears. Businessmen listen with their wallets. That simple.

2 RepliesWhen Elden Ring came out it just blew my mind that all of its content was obtainable the moment I purchased it by just playing the game, exploring and slaying out. It reminded me of what feels like “the golden age” now… before microtransactions began ruining beloved game franchises and when games were complete the moment you bought them.

2 RepliesEdited by TonnoSenpai: 8/14/2023 1:33:10 PMyeah every dev should take at least 6 years to make a dlc/game -_-

5 RepliesDestiny 2 has been out for a while and so has had to figure out how to pay for inventing and managing a consistently online live service experience. I'm pretty sure no one involved with this game thinks micros are the bees knees. The money had to come from somewhere though and there's too many important differences between the games to really compare how they get paid for. It was also a video more about the general state of gaming than anything destiny is doing in particular. I might actually buy baldur's gate 3 even though I'm not the biggest rpg person because it does look very good but I have a hard time believing people could pay once or even once a year and that game will still be here in 7 years.
