Okay I've been noticing this lately, but people refuse to use mics in any raid or dungeon. I get that some people have messed up mics, but come on, man. How are people supposed to communicate if people are just freaking silent? (Before you say the chat option, not everyone is on a pc, so the speed in which people chat is unreliable). Please someone explain it to me.
Edit: You know what after reading the comments and playing with the most terrible people imaginable, I take back my question. I'm throwing my mic in the trash.

1 ReplyI’m deaf so that could be one reason🤣

Using the forums as a tiny portion of players, how many people here would you want to talk to?

2 RepliesCause 90% of the current player base are ash holes. They don't know what to do don't revive teamates ignore the objective & rush through content just to get themselves killed. Asking them to use a mic for call outs is asking them to exercise their inadequate intelligence just a bit too much. Basically any player under 35 currently doesn't have a clue and is responsible for this games downfall.

I don’t like hearing myself speak, but don’t have a choice. I try not to not inflict it on others. Also, I generally don’t have much to say.

9 RepliesMy Black Country dialect. The only thing worse is a brummie, lol.

Social skills are on the decline 🤷🏼♂️

If you ask me bungie needs to nerf the game untill no communication is necessary
-
1 ReplyA lot of them can’t speak English
-
When I played, I liked doing GMs with no mic, for the added challenge. I used to run raids in D1 with no mic with my usual group, but it was because I had to be very, very quiet.
-
Because apparently everyone in this game has crippling social anxiety. Half the reason people don't raid is because their too scared to hop on the mic and talk because they don't wanna get yelled at. The other half is that mechanics are hard, but yeah, people on this game are wallflowers who wilt if you look at them.

While I prefer everyone to have a mic, I don't mind if people don't have a mic in a raid - as long as they know what they're doing, can handle their role and use text chat when necessary to convey necessary callouts. I'd much rather that than hear what sounds like a hurricane all raid, coming from the mic of that one guy who's sat 3mm from his deskfan! That being said, there are limits. I was in a raid quite recently where a guy was teaching his cousin King's Fall. No issues. It was clear it was a teaching run and I was happy to help. Except the guy's cousin didn't have a mic. He didn't speak English. He was sat next to him in the same room. All comms had to be given to the English-speaking cousin, who then had to relay it and translate it. Any callout had a good 10 second delay until it was actioned. That was rough! 😂 But they were, at least, very nice guys!

Back on my day, we would communicate during Skolas by emoting and there was no need for a mic in VoG, Crota or Kings Fall.

3 RepliesReasons vary, but a few that have kept me off-mic over the years: 1. Fireteam members with awful background noise, eating, listening to music, breathing heavy, being immature/annoying, having diarrhea of the mouth, or (I'm not joking) thinking it's ok to sing on the mic. Do any of these things and I'll mute you immediately, at which point there is no reason to have my own mic on. 2. Preferring a solo experience, but HAVING to join fireteams just to complete an activity. 3. Maybe I am snacking or listening to music or whatever as i game, and I don't want to clog the comms with my background noise 4. Sometimes I'm just not interested in conversing with random other gamers and just want to shut off my brain and kill some aliens.

1 ReplyFor every 1 player with a positive attitude, there’s an endles supply of -blam!- with overinflated egos and severe behavioral/mental issues. Why the heck would you wanna force yourself to interact with them? In a raid, I get it. You need communication. But other than that, no thanks. It’s a videogame. I’d rather it be fun.

1 ReplyWhy the don't people use a Mic? Because of the do people. They blackmailed bungie into punishing the don't people. The sometimes people seem to have benefited or been rewarded from this but it's arguably more of punishment than a reward due to it always happening sometimes or never always.
-
Because video game time = escapism for some us. The last thkng we want to hear is someone petty -blam!- in a pair of headphones.....or the background noise of their crying and neglected children, barking dog, wife's vibrator, TV set with. The View rerun, etc., etc.,...... ........all immediately prior said person(s) rage quitting after 2.5 hrs into a raid or in the middle of a Comp match.

Some of are us are shy☺️

How are people supposed to communicate if people are just freaking silent? (Before you say the chat option, not everyone is on a pc, so the speed in which people chat is unreliable). Please someone explain it to me.
There are many reasons. I’ve done Sherpa runs for Div, Vow, and pretty much every raid at this point where I’ve had one or two people off of comms. Some people don’t have a mic handy, some people have screaming kids in the background, some people have crippling social anxiety, and some people are physically disabled. We actually have a few deaf players who joined our Discord and have run raids with us on multiple occasions and they’ve killed it every time and that’s always been a situation where 2/6 players are off comms and can’t actually hear. If the core team is on point then it’s a nonissue. At the end of the day it’s not a huge problem if most players can at least hear everyone else and type in chat when it’s needed. When I use LFG for things like dungeons or GM’s I personally always set up my groups as mic-less because they really aren’t necessary. Sometimes I just want to throw on some tunes and kill aliens without being socially obligated to speak to other people lol.

1 ReplyMy main reason is I simply despise other humans.

Edited by Dabos: 7/27/2023 3:15:32 AMJust put “mic required” in ur posts you’re welcome <3

I don't want people to hear me spit when I have a dip of Copenhagen chewing tobacco in, also in most things I play I won't need a mic and I don't raid. I sometimes run dungeons on rare occasion, usually no mic. Random question, what is the don't people?
-
Who are, the don't people?

Edited by TheArtist: 7/26/2023 12:16:25 PMSome of us are introverts. We play games to relax and recharge after a long day of interacting with people. So the last thing we want to do is go online and start interacting with even more people. Especially randoms. Also the things that come across people mics? You just don’t want to have to deal with. Blaring music. Shouting. Screaming (once had the awkward experience of listening to a clan mate have a fight with his wife. Lost some respect for him after hearing some of the -blam!- he said to her). Racial and other slurs. It’s a level of chaos and drama I really don’t care to invite into my home. So I only put on a headset and talk when there is no other way to get things done… and only when I know most of the people I’m dealing with.

I don't mind raiding with people who don't have mics, but it's hard when they can't at least listen in to what is being said.
