Because the community hit goals for the charity drive for the Bungie Foundation... the VO for Xur revealed who cracked his spine and made him look like a hunchback.
Orin. We heard about Orin a little this season... when it was confirmed that the Nine aren't a monolith faction and that Drifter doesn't really trust most of them....
.... except Orin. I think we're going to meet up with Orin soon. So, with that, a little about Orin including the confirmation that Nine are a type of Awoken.
From Destinypedia, Orin:
"Life as a human
When Nasya was twenty-seven years old she won a lottery to board the Exodus vessel Yang Liwei, which sought to establish a human colony outside of the Sol System and away from the Traveler's influence. Among the few possessions she brought with her were a silver jar containing her mother's ashes, an unopened letter from her brother, an augment with over thirty-thousand songs and videos stored on it, and several seeds and cuttings from her favorite neighborhood plants. As the Yang Liwei left Earth, Naysa worked aboard the ship as a Scopare, a member of the janitorial group.
Starting small, she worked with the hope either being granted one of the remaining civilian cryopods or receiving a promotion to Auturge so that she could work in the hydroponics facilities. Nasya utilized her multilingualism to make friends amongst the other workers, many of whom did not share a common language, and quickly began teaching them other languages so they could all communicate better. As with all passengers of the ship she was pulled into the singularity formed between the clash between Light and Darkness and transformed into an Awoken.
Life in The Distributary
Upon awakening in the Distributary with only the silver jar containing her mother's ashes remaining of her possessions, although she did not remember what it contained and only felt that she could not part with it. Taking the new name of Nasan Ar, she made her home under the largest tree she found and welcomed any Awoken passersby to stay by her campfire. Over time, these visitors helped her build a house and many eventually settled there as well, leading to the creation of a small village. Eventually, she reluctantly became the mayor of her village, but although she loved her community she felt trapped by her responsibilities and knew that she did not want to be shackled to the village forever. Tormented by these feelings, Nasan departed the village one night with her silver jar to leave in search of her true purpose.
Nasan began wandering the Distributary and took up random jobs, including being a Corsair for a few weeks, working as a field hand for a summer, and being an accountant for an atom merchant. She did not find fulfillment in any of these tasks, but met a man who noted her silver jar and suggested she might be a treasure hunter. Intrigued by the possibility, Nasan went exploring in a cavern where she met and befriended the Paladin Sjur Eido. The warrior suggested that if she was searching for a purpose she should meet the the Diasyrm, leader of the Eccaleists.
After spending time in the Eccaleists camp, Nasan was approached by the Diasyrm and offered the job of a translator. Nasan pointed out that all of the Awoken there could communicate with each other and that no regional dialect was distinct enough to require translation. The Diasyrm explained that Nasan had spent her time there helping to stop arguments and fights before they began by understanding both sides and helping peacefully guide them to a solution. Prideful but embarrassed, Nasan tried to wave that off as simple mediation, but the Diasyrm insisted she had a gift for helping people understand each other and that gifts like hers could end war, although she warned that the Sanguine would not like that talent. With her purpose found for the time being, Nasan helped deal with the wounds in Awoken society caused by the Theodicy War and its aftermath, including the disappearance of the Diasyrm. She worked in small groups of less than ten people, believing that change could only happen at smaller personal levels.
Many years later, Nasan heard Mara Sov give a speech advocating that the Awoken leave the Distributary and return to the Sol System out of the belief that they owed the rest of humanity a debt for leaving them behind in their time of crisis. The idea of having abandoned the worlds of humanity in such a manner hurt Nasan deeply, and after four nights of not sleeping concluded that she would join Mara.
By then, her friend Sjur had become Mara's paramour and introduced Nasan to her and the preparations for departure were made. Nasan vowed to talk with Awoken who had chosen to remain and convince them to come, but Mara rebuked her and asked that she instead help those who chose to leave come to terms with the grief that came with that decision. She accepted this task and saw some of the stress in Mara's face fade. During their exodus, Nasan felt a deep schism from the separation of their people. Holding onto the silver jar for comfort, Nasan wondered who she had left behind so long ago and if they might still be alive when the Awoken returned".

5 RepliesEdited by jhermannITJ: 7/23/2023 11:02:20 PMCannonball !!! I got to do it, I was going to wait for a better moment but I just back from throwing a BBQ for my pops, so in the spirit of that... my Dad really doesn't suffer fools. To do it, please forgive me... I need to say something that pats myself on the back. I'm in high demand. I have people messaging me, asking for information... asking for help all the time. I have pages & pages of just D2 friends. I also have tons of 'Haters'... & sometimes I get people SO OBSESSED... so maladjusted that they try to infiltrate me... they think I'm a fraud or an illegitimate player. And I let them... I let them try. [redacted] is one of those people obsessed with me that was able to find their way on onto my friends list. 100% I'm not lying. I always catch it, I always know. They've been spying on me for a while... because I did NOT add them recently. That's what I'm dealing with on a regular basis from this community. I'm a legitimate player, a hobbyist of D2 just trying to enjoy a video game, lol. I'm not sensitive... btw... I average about 1 RAT per season. Last season... it was someone else. I have nothing to hide... and you can't scare me or trap me. Also, it should be noted that when you 'spy' on me... that level of CRAZY, I'll vet you... find out everything about you... 100% fair game. Like, I don't care... but this person cheeses a lot. They cheesed their solo dungeon clear for rank 11 this season. Allegedly. So, just a word of caution... "spy" on me, it might be bad for you long term. Have fun, lol. 😇 👍💠 P.S. This is their last day... I took a screenshot for receipts, but I probably won't go through the effort of sharing/converting it from Xbox to twitter or host it somewhere like my servers 😉... otherwise I'd post it. Also, that might violate the CoC... because it obviously isn't a 'good look' for this person. But, as I said, I kept receipts... just in case, I need it to show someone at Xbox Enforcement or Bungie. And, I want to make it clear... this isn't a veiled threat... I have no intention of pursuing any action as of right now... but you have to protect yourself & I do. That's why I have receipts... I didn't want to embarrass this person, but it's getting too weird. It's funny when I think about it... so much time invested, for what? Pretend to be my friend... it's SO weird. And to think I wouldn't notice? Really? It's crazy.

1 ReplyThat is interesting, and I hope to see more of Orin and the IX soon. However, they've already said it was a titan that broke his spine, because they thought he was a threat appearing in the Tower.

2 RepliesI'm done dealing with blatant instigators... If you can't prevent yourself from being tilted by what IS creative theory just for fun, ignore my posts... block me. If you cross the line; I'm just going to follow the CoC from now on.

We've known that information since Season of the Drifter. Honestly for someone who claims to know the lore and understand it better than anyone else, I never expected that big of a fumble about a character so intertwined with your own interconnected theory. Interestingly enough the quote you use is actually misquoted in the article. Adjudicator
You sought us out in the deep black. meditation wasn't enough for you GO AND TOUCH THE HISSING SILENCE Do not fear being submerged. Not many ships go that far, these days. you went through hell to get one, and then again to get out there YOU FOUND THE DEVIL HIMSELF. A G O L D E N S N A K E A D E V I L W H O P O S E S A S G O D No more a god than you. YOU DIDN'T FIGHT HIM. Y O U T U R N E D A R O U N D S M A R T Others did. while we watched
"A Golden Snake. A Devil who poses as God" The Golden Snake she met, whoever and whatever it was, unfortunately is outside of the Distributary. The journey they reference her going on is when she left in search of "Nothing". The Long Walk Which occurred after she met a group of Nine Ghosts
The Nine are Ghosts who pierced the Deep Black without a ship and meditated on the hissing silence of the heliopause.
She was actively hunting down the Nine on this journey, plagued by hallucinations. It's hard to tell if the original Emissary lore from Vanilla D2 that mentions this snake is being kept in mind when we got the new Season of the Drifter lore, but this Golden Snake could very well be meant to refer to the Drifter. After all, she met Wu Ming on this journey and separated from him upon learning he had multiple identities and was prone to being a con man. The snake connection is obvious, but funnily enough Orin has a tattoo of a snake on her arm as well, which Wu Ming recognised from some past encounter with her while she was in the Pilgrim Guard. -Edit- But, in a departure to the previous speculation, a simpler exploration. The Nine specified a GOLDEN snake. One who sees himself as a God, one she stumbled upon in the Deep Black. It's referring to Calus and his Leviathan. Lines up with the timing of the lore (D2 Vanilla) without being retroactive, the timeline within the lore itself lines up, he's the most likely candidate. Which is a rather neat conclusion, to see the natural crossover of characters with no larger impact on either one. But, to draw even more evidence for this interpretation, let's go back to the Adjudicator lore entry.
YOU DIDN'T FIGHT HIM. Y O U T U R N E D A R O U N D S M A R T Others did. while we watched
So, the Nine had an interest in Calus and were actively watching him. I wonder if there's any lore to support that? The Leviathan
The black screen of the dark matter detector explodes into frenzied purple-white shapes, like the webs of a spider locked in sensory deprivation for a million billion years. Thick cords of shadowstuff that twine into strangling arms which branch again into thousands of tiny fingers that pierce— —straight through the Cabal Leviathan. "Oh my," Lavinia breathes. "That's the dark matter we're passing through?" "Correct." "And this is unusual? This level of structure?" "Miss Tawil," Kamala says, "a single molecule of dark matter would be unusual. This is blasphemous excess. This is impossibility." No, Lavinia thinks. This is the Nine. They're looking at Calus. They're reaching out. These are their hands...
Thank you Lavinia

46 RepliesEdited by jhermannITJ: 7/22/2023 5:29:41 PMI recommend reading the entry in full. https://www.destinypedia.com/Orin But here's the part I found most compelling: "She soon encountered some of the Nine herself. After warning her of the possibility of going mad from the conversation and of a potential price as a consequence, they tasked her with finding three "worthy keys". They then commended her for seeking them out, for her resourcefulness in acquiring a ship and her decision to avoid "a golden snake who poses as a god". However, at some point, Orin was transformed from a Guardian to a "Shell" as Mara Sov calls her, becoming the Emissary of the Nine". Interesting... Orin is a "shell". Ahsa is a "coward". The Golden Snake... who do you think that was? Mara's mother... (my theory). Orin was commended for avoiding the Golden Snake in the Distributary. And they're definitely talking about Savathun (whether she is Osana Sov or not). How was Savathun in the Distributary? If the Fundament & the Distributary are different places at different points in time... give me the lore that tells us how Savathun made it to the Distributary... when? How? It doesn't exist. The Distributary & the Fundament are names for the same place/event. Orin confirms that the Nine are awoken too... Also, Orin was resisting the Sovs more than she even knew... Mara started the War. Mara stole the throne and left the distributary to insulate her power and aid in her mother's conquests.
