The current 24hr average population is 55,391. S18 Season of the Plunder's lowest was 52,628. The lowest population I can see for the entirety of D2's time on steam was that S18 52,628.
Here’s other moments in time for context.
Lowest population numbers during Year 3 = 67,405 (S10)
Lowest population numbers during Year 4 = 60,876 (S12)
Lowest population numbers during Year 5 = 52,628 (S18)
Lowest population numbers during Year 6 = 55,391 (S21)

2 RepliesEven if that # falls to 0, D2 will be fine because console is all that matters.

8 RepliesQueue up the Bungie/Destiny Defense Force with all the excuses. You know it’s coming.

We’re hitting the part of the season where they know player numbers will drop off (since there’s no new content planned for the near future). The numbers could drop all the way to 20k and they still wouldn’t care, because as soon as the next season drops the charts are going to shoot back up to the 60k range.

Season of the Undying all over again. Not much to do that’s worth the time.
-
1 ReplyWell usually the older a game is, the less people plays it

2 RepliesIf you look at it month by month, July 2023 is shaping up to be the fifth lowest population. Last 30 days: 49,995 Nov 22: 38,158 Nov 21: 44,240 Apr 21: 45,629 Jan 21: 44,864 https://steamcharts.com/app/1085660 There’s quite a few months with 50,000 to 55,000, so the last 30 days aren’t massively unusual, but it would be concerning for Bungie if August 2023 doesn’t plateau or bounce back. (Bear in mind it’s Steam numbers only, not console population.)

They should fix the server issues that keep kicking people to the login screen. Matchmaking in all activities is terrible.
-
Don't worry, next season they will bring back Crotas End. Nostalgic raids brings people around.
-
well you know if bungie keep makingthe game more and more ultra casual is obv that after 3/4 weeks players will play only 1 h reset day on stop, pvp on pc is a shitshow thanks to the meta controller

3 RepliesIs there a specific site to check Playstation player numbers? I'm not trying to troll you or anything, I'm actually curious as to what they are.

Edited by Guardian, Archon Of Light: 7/23/2023 7:17:26 PMD2 is dead right now, but your decision to limit the discussion to steam numbers says alot about your intentions with this post, Destiny's main population is on Console
-
But you guys and the D2 subreddit said that we were making it all up!
-
3 RepliesI'm curious, does anyone remember D2 vanilla and Forsaken numbers? How close are we to CoO levels of -blam!- ery, or is this just the standard downwards trend? I ask this because the numbers you mentioned really aren't that far from each other, and you're mentioning only one platform.

For now, I will continue enjoying my time in whatever mode I'm feeling like spending a little time in for that moment of my day. I'd be willing to bet dollars to donuts that this is the case with a solid majority of the player base.

1 ReplyWhat's the issue? The average is 59,075 (from the metrics you provided)... and this season is 55,391. So, off the average... a drop of 6.65%? That's nothing. Super healthy actually.
-
Maybe, but that's only silly PC player numbers. Really men play on PS5 👍

14 RepliesWhere are you getting your numbers from?

5 RepliesPeople always post these types of dumb posts at the end of a season when there is nothing left to do. No one cares and destiny is still one of the most played games.
-
1 ReplyCause bungo has been listing to and implementing the tastes of low tier players.
-
5 RepliesI don’t get the point of these types of posts. I don’t play destiny based on who else is or isn’t playing. I play my my own enjoyment. If I was a Sony or Bungie executive I may be interested but as a player I don’t give a rats. Towards the end of a season it’s always the same thing, OMG the numbers are low - the game is dying. What’s the point in doing all of this analysis other than to stir up the rabid dogs that are frothing at the mouth for the day the game dies. Pointless.

2 RepliesYou know it's summer right

Still top 10 current populated steam game atm.
