Devs, switching to 4s would dramatically increase match making probability without having to grow the player base.
6s on these old maps combined with increase in the speed of the game - it doesn't fit. 4s would also go a long way to addressing match making woes facing all of your solo queue players.
Edit: I'd like to add, switching to 4s would also do a few more obvious things. By default, it would "expand" the playing field and promote a more mixed style of play because choke/control points would have to be handled differently.
MM waiting times would decrease.
Edit #2: I have probably 100+ notifications for upvote on this thread. For those down voting, let's hear a rationale as to why. All I see here from your position is - "because 4s suck."
Edit#3: Anyone with pvp complaints seeing this thread, if you take the time to read it all, there is some good discussion and good additional points made. You'll also see this board in a nutshell on the always hot topic of pvp. Some changes to the game actually do come from input here.

Edited by Magertron27: 7/22/2023 9:29:06 AMWhile I agree with the change I think it doesn't address the core issue of "balance" with PvP. Special needs to go back to D1 spec, heavy spawn needs toning down (1.5 minutes into a match is just rediculous) and just some tweaks to some archetypes. Plus with how Bungos server is at the moment AND with people dropping the game the population in PvP will struggle even more with finding local area matches and have to pull from other regions, adding to the latency issue.

Seeing as most of the maps were designed for 4v4, sounds like a net positive. But I’m sure others have will be concerned as always 😅

7 RepliesEdited by Kildozer666: 7/22/2023 7:30:16 PMAnswer for Edit #2 = Maybe there's a reason that that many people down voted this post that could delete this supposed 100+ upvotes you claim. That reason is because Bungie & the community already tried & were forced into a year of the Crucible being 4v4 & it was one of the worst moment/decisions in franchise history. It contributed to the player population completely abandonin the franchise and the game & the studio almost went out of business, my guy. lol

We tried 4s. It was bad, and no, it wasn't just the sandbox, although that was terrible too, but 4s was just not good. It slowed the pace down. People were too scared to push anywhere without their entire team shoved in their butt. Passive metas have always felt like complete garbage, and there's no way less players on the same size maps would mean anything other than slower play. and then this.... "By default, it would "expand" the playing field and promote a more mixed style of play because choke/control points would have to be handled differently." Just.....what? lmao. I'd be incredibly curious what logic is behind this conclusion, because it's totally unsupported in the post, and I can not imagine less players on the map would have any effect on how choke points are handled or how it expands anything at all if all else is the exact same.

Lmao it was 4v4 for year 1, and you all hated it and cried to have it changed. PvP should just be exterminated from the game so we can have a decent game.
-
5 v 5 and we have a deal.
-
I agree 4 v 4 in every mode. Comp trials control ib. It would help with the maps going back to how it was day 1 d2

4v4 would make it stupid easy to farm people

Please, dear God, not 4v4 again. That was the worst.

I don't know how I feel about 4, but I would try 5 to start and go from there. I like the idea at its core though. Bungie has even been worried about space, it seems like a good way to keep in line with that too, and give players a better chance at survival overall. The maps do feel too crowded, and then with supers activated its just nonsense. I could see where roaming supers would lose effectiveness and that could be a negative, but I know myself, I find them pretty useless in PvP, save for zone deterrent, or blocking pathway access. They are really valuable there. The modes with 3 people are really not engaging, and just feel tedious because of the lack of players. This is why I'm just a bit reluctant with four. It could go well though too. They have Crucible Labs, but it feels like it could be better utilized until something lands really well. This seems like a good thing to try out there. Currently Labs just seems relatively untouched, maybe with more cycling through it, people would be more willing to give it a shot. It spices things up from the same old too. The point of any lab is to test, and with Crucible, I feel they could even cycle monthly or bi-monthly and then analyze what had the most interactions every 2,4,6,8,10,or 12 months and re-evaluate from there. This is, of course only if its feasible without stretching the devs too thin.

1 ReplyFull circle to D2 YR 1 lol
-
1 ReplyBecause we did 4s, it sucks. Who here actually plays competitive ? Quickplay with 6 v 6 is always up for a reason.
-
3 RepliesThrowback to Y1.
-
Could be a fantastic idea for Crucible Labs but thats too much effort for Bungie. Instead here's Elimination 3 weeks in a row.
-
2 RepliesNice try vanilla d2 bungie employee. You were wrong. Step off the ivory tower and move on.

5 RepliesMan we're still chasing the debunked "game was designed for 4v4" marketing schpiel 6 years later. Wild

1 ReplyEdited by Wintermute 2050: 7/22/2023 2:42:29 PM4v4 is the perfect team size. I have been saying since D1 that this should be used instead of 6v6. It is too bad that it was abandoned after the D2 Y1 disaster. Anyone who has played Halo knows that 4v4 is much less chaotic than 6v6.

6 RepliesThe game is slower, not faster 🙄

2 RepliesOr they can just bring back skirmish and salvage. I miss those days.

1 ReplyEdited by Kildozer666: 7/22/2023 7:23:49 PMTo make this proposal really pop they should also take away random rolls from loot & make everything have static rolls AND we should be forced to use double primary weapons & put all the special weapons into the heavy slot. Hahahaha
-
I remember lt was like that back when D2 just came out, i hated it. Although i wouldnt care cause i rarely play 6v6 playlists
-
9 RepliesNaw we did that already.
-
No, just give us our original D1 maps actually designed for 6v6
-
5v5 is ok but I’d rather keep 6v6 than switch to 4v4.

4 RepliesNobody wants d2 vanilla pvp
