Who/What is Felwinter?

I didn’t play Rise of Iron in D1 (where I believe it was explained, I could be wrong) so like can someone explain? I’ve heard that the lore surrounding him(?) is really cool, but idk any of it.

  • Felwinter was part of Rasputin placed as an Exo Guardian. He was a warlord and a backstabbing coward of one too, ever wonder why his shotgun is named Felwinter's Lie. Iron Lords swore not to permakill ghosts of other Risen so as to recruit them into the Iron Lords, Felwinter broke this oath often and he even killed a fellow Iron Lord. Felwinter is someone you don't want as an ally. Iron Lords weren't supposed to perma-kill ghosts anymore, but Felwinter kept perma-killing other Risen even when they weren't a threat. My favorite part of Felwinter's lore is when he tried to pull a fast one on Lord Shaxx. Lord Shaxx popped Felwinter's head clean off, using only his fists. The Iron Lords realized fighting Shaxx was futile and decided he could be an unconventional ally while retaining his title of Warlord.

    • Rasputin placed a portion/version of himself and placed it in an Exo to explore humanity and grow/learn from interaction. It was destroyed during the Collapse and revived later by a Ghost. He was recruited into the Iron Lords relatively early and gave them his base on Felwinter Peak, which became the Iron Temple. He also recruited Shaxx into the Iron Lords. Haunted by his previous life, he searched for old Seraph and Rasputin related bunkers and data, coming to learn of SIVA. Which was bait laid out by Rasputin. Turns out, Rasputin didn’t like the idea of a copy of him running around without a leash and hopped up on paracausal power. Felwinter convinced the Iron Lords to lay siege against the SIVA manufacturing Site 6 installation in the Cosmodrome. Rasputin used SIVA itself and constructs made of it to overwhelm them. Only Saladin survived. I believe Felwinters original base code was used to help rebuild Rasputin but he then sacrificed himself to save us a little while ago.

        • Felwinter is essentially a sentient Rasputin that was turned into a guardian and then eventually killed by rasputin. There are lore cards on the whole thing which is a fairly good story

        • Basically, an exo avatar made by Rasputin to explore and serve as Rasputins eyes and ears while he slept after the collapse. Unfortunately, he died and got reborn as a guardian, which upset the big guy. Rasputin reached out and told him to return, but Felwinter refused, so Rasputin decided the best course of action was to kill him so that none of his secrets would be revealed. Durning this time Felwinter banded with a group of warlords known as the Iron lords who wanted to bring an end to the warlords. Even then, Felwinter used them for his own purposes for getting answers from Rasputin. This is the real reason the iron lords attacked the siva complex and were all killed by Rasputin. After Felwinters death, Rasputin regretted his decision and decided that he probably overreacted.

        • In short, a Rasputin submind meant to observe humanity and relay info back to Big Red from Exo Body. Felwinter went dark after a while, choosing to become a human. He was eventually resurrected by a mute ghost and became an Iron Lord. Rasputin, in an attempt to regain Felwinter, used the prospect of SIVA to lure the Iron Lords in, killing all of them including Felwinter. Felwinter's helm has a ghost in the back, secured to keep it from running away, as neither trusted one another.

          • He was an exo former warlord who became an Iron Lord. He was a voidwalker warlock who had been created, and also murdered, by the warmind Rasputin. There is a bit of retconning in his story. He was the focus of Season of the Splicer in D2. I would expect that Byf will have a video on him.

Felwinter is the son of Rasputin. Rasputin kills son. Rasputin feels bad. Waaay overly simplified. Father's killing sons, like old epics of the past, or even one of the best selling stories in history. 🤔 Oh, oh, like Clovis and his son, slightly different but essentially Clovis put his son in an exo body...and the kid ripped himself apart.

            • He was an Exo created in secret by the Warmind Rasputin with the purpose of studying humanity through direct interaction. Not long after it's creation the collapse happened and Felwinter was destroyed. A ghost eventually found him and resurrected him as a Guardian. Rasputin attempted to "retrieve" the frame by force. Causing the Exo to repeatedly flee the attempts. Eventually the Iron Lord's found Felwinter, where he joined their ranks. His "interactions" with the Warmind eventually lead him and the other Iron Lordds to search for SIVA. Rasputin responded by attacking Iron Lord's. Defeating all but 2 - Saladin and Efrideet

The abridged version (and please, anyone with any corrections feel free to do so): Rasputin made a golem to go out and see the world. The golem came to care for humanity too much, so Rasputin murdered the golem. A Ghost raised the golem, and it eventually became Lord Felwinter. Rasputin, in a fit of jealous rage, lured Felwinter and the Iron Lords into a trap and infected them with SIVA. In my opinion, Bungie tried to be revisionist and make it seem like Rasputin regretted its decision to murder Felwinter when they tried to make Rasputin a more sympathetic character. It was more interesting when it was unrepentant.

My very loose explanation is. Felwinter was a fragment of Rasputin that was sent out into the world in an exo body.At some point he dies leading to a ghost bringing back the exo body of felwinter. Rasputin didn’t take to kindly to this which lead to Rasputin killing the iron lords
