We need clarity about why we gain or lose rank. I've been grinding some comp recently and got into a placement series. Went 1-1 and into my third game. BOTH OF MY TEAMMATES LEFT in the middle of the round. I lost and lost half of that rank. Secondly, I can outplay the entire lobby and still lose over 100 points. But I can also get out played by the entire lobby and lose 40. We need clarification, and an actual metric of why we are getting what we get. Also rank loss protection for those who get shafted when their teammates leave would be nice

It's getting incredibly tiresome and beyond frustrating the level of crutch this has become. 2- Being teamed with mother duckers who just want to go completely maverick and bum rush the show. Only to be sniped or ambushed immediately during the first thirty to forty seconds, placing the team into a hole that (almost always) is impossible to climb out of. Otherwise, it's a decent game mode.

It’s based on two things; your hidden MMR and how well you play the game. Let me explain. When you lose or win games, the game will assign you a hidden skill value: MMR (match making rating) THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS YOUR CURRENT RANK SHOWN IN GAME Your MMR is determined by the quality of the teams you beat and how well you played. For example, if you beat a team with a lower MMR than you and you didn’t play well (even though you won) you will only gain a small amount of MMR. On the flip side if you beat a team with a higher MMR than you and you played well then you’ll gain a large amount of MMR. After playing for a while you’ll settle into a certain MMR and the only way to increase it is to consistently beat teams better than you and play well while doing it. Let’s take me for example. My MMR is extremely high as I’m a top 0.1% player. When I win games I get 200-400 points per win and when I lose games I never lose more than 50. Why? Because my MMR is so drastically high I can only really lose points to a select few players who also have extremely high MMR. You’re probably thinking “well this is stupid” and I agree. This is all a product of SBMM. This is why you can match an Ascendant player in your first game of comp because the Ascendant and you have the same MMR. SBMM is a failure of a system and SHOULD NEVER BE IN RANKED. No well respected competitive game uses anything other than Ranked Based Match Making or Elo Based Match Making (RBMM and EBMM). So thank the casuals players who love SBMM for making ranked in Destiny 2 complete garbage.

3 RepliesComp scoring needs clarity, which we probably won't get, because Bungie doesn't want to reveal the "skill" metric for players

Edited by I am kevin: 7/21/2023 7:32:41 AMIll try to explain what you’re experiencing; Bungie has stated in previous update that the competitive ranking system prefers sbmm over you’re in game rank. Now what does this mean when you flying into a game of competitive the game has a expectations on how it will end. And you’re score will be effected by you’re performance and result. I’ll give a example; 2 teams with a behind the scene score called (cr) combat rating: Team 1 Player 1: 1000 Player 2: 600 Player 3: 500 Team 2 Player 1: 700 Player 2: 700 Player 3: 700 Both teams add up to 2100 cr this is what bungie calls competitive matchmaking. If player 1 on team 1 lose this match he will lose about 150 points. The game considers him above every other player. So he should be able to beat the lobby. It doesn’t count into affect that both the other players have a uphill battle player 1 should be able to compensate for the them. If player 1 on team 1 gets a lower kda/dunk/revive score then player 2/3 on team one he will even lose 200/250 points. Because he is expected to be and do better. So don’t think of the rank in game as your rank. The game has a behind the scene ranking that you have to fight against in game. Against other opponents. This is how you climb the lader in comp. Recently they have stated that the game will force you to you’re supposed behind the scene rank and it’s difficult to fight that ranking that the game has given you. To prove this point or investigate I would say. I made a second account then proceed to play normal crusible. So that the game could recognize my skill. After 1 reset I was determined to lose all my competitive requirements (placement match) and the game still gave me a gold 3 ranking the highest the game has to offer. This because the game recognized that before placing I should be in a higher categorie. Hope this explanation helps, and to quote a def from bungie destiny is not a competitive game and should not be played like that. Most of us know that the comp playlist is just here to keep some portion of the community happy but that’s it.

And to add, there is protection but only in the first round of the game. After that point thinks it’s fair to leave or ppl will always leave to safe points

You can outplay the lobby and lose 100 points because you should be winning that match. You lose more points on matches you lose that you shouldn’t. You lose less points on matches they think you should lose. This is determined by your hidden skill value they assign to you and comparing it to the lobby.
