I'm all for donating for good causes but does anyone else find it kind of shady that Bungie gets involved with all of this and asks us to donate but uses terrible tactics to nickel and dime their own community? Does Bungie donate a solid amount of money themselves? Doesn't sit well seeing this with Bungie involved because of reasons stated above.

If you want to donate to a charity, awesome! But donate to the charity directly. Giving it to BungLe means that a multi billion dollar company gets to pocket some of your money meant for the charity for themselves, while also sending the small fraction to the charity so they can write it off on taxes. So basically, they get a ton of extra money for themselves while pretending to be a shining beacon of compassion. Pretty low in my opinion for them to do it, but corporations are heartless money vacuums.

Ha! Hilarious! Bungie day and they are asking for money so people can get the rewards ….wow! Sad part people will be throwing their money at bungie with a thought ?!

1 ReplyThis is happening a lot these days in corporate commerce. Every time I swipe my card I get asked to donate on the screen. Truth is, the companies put the money from donations in their account and then write a check to the charity in their name so they can right it off on taxes. If you feel the need to support a charity by all means do, but I would encourage you to seek the organization out and donate directly to them. Don't go through a middle man like Bungie, best buy, or some other retailer.

When I feel like donating money and feeling like I made a difference I look up the local soup kitchens and donate money directly to them. Union Gospel Mission and Salvation Army Harbor Light are my local ones On UGM's website used to say they claim $40 Canadian can feed 80 mouths Like why would I want my donations to be used over seas in a 3rd world country when so many struggling here in North America

18 RepliesNope. They have a long history of raising money for variable charities. It’s a bit low brow to complain about anyone helping others.
-
7 RepliesThey have a long list of giving to charitys down at the strip clubs. There is always a charity their needing some of that eververse loot. You sure know they aren't using it on the game, servers or employees.

8 RepliesThree words: tax write off
-
1 ReplyBungie doesn’t care about the charity…. Bungie only cares that they take our money and they donate it and can get a tax write off, form our money.
-
1 ReplyIt’s a giving festival, celebrating US giving BUNGIE all our money
-
Scumbags pocket most of the donation money. They only give to charity the bare minimum required by law and keep the rest for themselves, hence the reason they host so many of these so called charity events

1 ReplyEdited by rottingvermin: 7/8/2023 11:06:55 AMCorporations asking their customers for donations is annoying. I like how they try to shame you at the cash register at a store. “Would you like to donate your change to help children” “Nope” lol
-
I'm not giving them a penny, specially not for "rewards" that should've been free for bungie day (should've been an emblem, shader and funny little armor skin like they did with the Tiger helmet that lights up in flames when near mobs)
-
Wouldn’t be surprised if bungie pocketed more money from this because donations aren’t taxable I don’t care about bungie day or any event they have aiming for donations. Slimy, nasty dev team

Their latest available filling, as of 2021, shows: 3mln revenue 1.7mln paid in salaries and the likes overhead. 960k granted (to their local community partners/corporations/friends.) https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/272313989/202213149349102081/full

It will depend on how the charity donations are set up. If they're given online then the money goes to a 3rd party and will split the money on an agreed amount between the charity and the person putting on the fundraiser. Bungie won't get any tax benefit on what you donate, but will if they match. And they can write-off the money they spent doing the fundraiser. You do get to write off your donation in your tax return. I would guess (and I do mean guess) that Bungie would set it up something like that. A company that large gets audited every year by the IRS. Their accountants do all of the tax work behind it. Doing charity fundraising is obviously a good thing in my opinion. As a business owner myself I would never want to be the person handling the money in this instance. The risk would be too great for potential fraud. With all of that said, even my own accountant has stated "Most of my clients would be in jail if the IRS actually did a good job at monitoring corporations" I've done some charity donations before in the form of a fundraiser and it's a giant headache to do it solo and claim all of the responsibility. Best way to protect the money you send in is to claim it on your tax return and that you donated it and provide the receipt when you send in your return. Anything you give Bungie directly for a product they sell is fair game for them to do whatever they want with it. They provided a product that you purchased and the business deal is over after that. Makes you kind of wish you could Lemon Law servers :)

Corporations use it for tax write-off. But you don’t really know how much of your money goes to charity. Nobody knows except their accountant and the bosses. For all you know, half of your money goes to their pockets. When a calamity happens to a poor nation, millions are donated. Sometimes without any paper trail or documentation. But when the dust settles, you don’t see where the money went. And nobody talks about it. World moves on to other things and talks about new NEWS happening to other places.

2 RepliesWhen they donate to pvp/gambit maps, I'll consider donating to them

You also can donate for good causes without Bungie involved.
-
Just throw your money at the screen and 🤫
🤑
You donate to Bungie. They use the money to donate to charities... but Bungie gets the donation tax write off.

Not in the slightest.
