Last night while playing the campaign, I got an error for some files missing. I relaunched the game and got the error screen saying I need to reinstall Destiny 2. Hence, I re-installed the entire game from steam. But to my surprise, the issue is still present.
I have tried the following methods after this:
METHOD 1:
1. Right- click Destiny 2 in Steam >properties> Local files> Browse> delete all files except for "packages".
2. Go to steam> right click Destiny 2> Properties> local files> Verify integrity of game files.
3. Once it downloads the missing files, open Destiny 2 and the game will verify game content
This didn't fix the issue.
METHOD 2:
There was a section for PC known issues on Help Center on your site which stated:
Problem Reading Game Content: Players who are encountering “problem reading game content” errors on Steam should try deleting the steam_appid.txt file in their Destiny 2 folder. Players performing these steps must also ensure that they are NOT launching Destiny 2 using the “Run as Administrator” option.
Example directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Destiny 2
Players may also find this under …\Destiny2\bin\x64
But when I checked my directory there was no file named as steam_appid.txt

I have attached the screenshot of the error screen as well. Please help me resolve this issue!

15 RepliesWhat I had to do to fix this was go into C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp then find the Destiny 2 folder and change the name of it to whatever you want. I changed mine to Destiny 2.0 and then it worked after that.
