Lance Reddick (Zavala) really was a great actor
I've finally started playing Horizon Forbidden West and he's in it (as well as the first game), playing a much harsher character than Zavala.
His voice acting in the games is fantastic. He has the same rich tones in his voice but doesn't sound noble or kind or anything like that. He can add disdain, menace, condescension, and such to the simplest lines.
He was definitely one of a kind and will be missed.

Sir Lance was just getting the spotlight he deserved! He got taken away too soon. Life is just not fair. He was great in Horizon.

Sadly, I never really knew him as Lance Reddick The Actor. Only knew him through Destiny... I guess John Wick as well. So technically I knew of him as an actor, but not really know who he was. When he died I heard about his great works on The Wire and Fringe. I never got to watch them, but I know of their quality. Lance Reddick was great and it breaks my heart that I never really got to know his stuff while he was alive. With every new piece of dialogue from Zavala I hear, I feel kind of sad. Since eventually those lines will end and there will be no more. His character of Zavala has been part of my life for so many years and now the man behind him is gone. Zavala was really fleshing out the last couple of years, with Reddick doing a superb job. It just won't be the same without him.

Thanks to all the people -blam!- to this post, which I made on the spur of the moment after hearing Lance in both games after playing them the same day and really comprehending how good he was when I noted the contrast in the performances. It's good that people are pointing out all his various other accomplishments and roles, some of which I hadn't heard of. I hope that others, like me, will seek these out to watch them.

If you like his voice acting then get into his IMDB and check out the 'real' stuff, tv and movies. He was an overall damn good actor. First time I heard Zavala speak I got rather excited because it was an instant recognition for me.

13 RepliesYep. He was one of those “master craftsmen” actors who don’t really get super-famous themselves. But do a fantastic job of creating realistic, believable characters wherever the go. The actress who played Lakshmi-2 is the same. She was one of the main characters in the series The Expanse. She would do things that would make you love her one moment…then want to choke the life out her character the next…and make it all a believable part of her personality. Great work when they can get you that emotional invested, and make you feel about these characters the same way you would about a real person.

He will be sorely missed. Can remember him first from an "Always sunny in Philadelphia " episode. His passing for me marked the begging of the end for Destiny 2. We should all live our best life!
