Well, I have pretty garbage luck with exotics from random drops. Not only did it take me MONTHS to get a SECOND contraverse hold, but BOTH of them had trash stats. High mobility? High resil?? When I'm literally running Discipline Armorer on my ghost?? So like, being able to save up exotic engrams (especially with the increased drop rate now!) and focus into Contraverse Holds, it's super nice to me cause I don't have to worry about sectors dropping every other type of gauntlet, AND I don't have to wait for sectors to BE gauntlets, on top of the fact that if I don't like the roll I get, it's no big deal to me cause again, exotic engrams have been dropping like candy lately. It's really just for the sake of focusing for stat farming, and for people like me who have such trash luck in getting what we want, it's a godsend. We only need to get it once, then we can just farm engrams to play slots with them until we get the roll we want.

  • The total statistical potential of an armor roll are divided between 2 pools: Resilience, recovery, and mobility Discipline, strength, and intellect Say you have a 64 total with an armor focusing mod on. Minimum of a 10 point spike on a chosen category. There would be 32 points available in total to each pool. Put it on discipline there's only 22 random points to disperse between intellect, strength, and discipline. 32 points will still be dispersed randomly across resilience, recovery, and mobility. Focus for resilience or recovery you reduce the likelihood of mobility rolls by reducing the random point dispersal to 22 instead of 32. You can really see this in play when solstice comes back. There were two methods of focusing for stat rolls where you could guarantee a 10 on one category and a 20 on another. Perfect for high resilience AND recovery rolls.

  • I'm fully aware of how it works. Nothing in my post was confused on that? I said the exotic focusing is great for people like me who have bad luck with stat rolls. Like, as I said, I've gotten high-mobility armor when I'm running discipline armorer on my ghost. That is how bad my luck is with random drops. But my luck with focusing is much better. NOTHING in my post was about not understanding stats, or focusing, or mod focuses. I don't understand the point of your comment. Not hating, just very confused.

  • Just to the point that a discipline mod doesn't provide any protection against a mobility spike. Resilience and recovery armourers provide some mitigation but discipline doesn't. Sounded like a misconception in the OP. There's always going to be stat dispersal evenly across both pools so unless everything averages you should see spikes in one category for each pool. That's all I was getting at.

  • I'm aware you'll see spikes in some stats. Discipline is one of the stats. Discipline Armorer is supposed to make armor drop with higher discipline than normal. My luck is such that it doesn't trigger reliably on random drops, but for some reason I tend to see higher discipline on focused drops.

  • I have focused a bunch of engrams and if Bungie uses the same algorithm for exotic that they use for legendary, which I bet they did, you will want X stat as assigned on your ghost , but you will an engram focused on Y stat instead. If it actually worked on legendary I might risk it on an exotic, but it doesn't. The cost is prohibitively high and frankly not worth it. You still end up with a random roll that may or may not be right. I have yet to get one rolled correctly as a legendary. In the end you will only rarely get something you need, and you will be wasting a ton of resources that you would not otherwise waste on just a random roll.

  • Right but I would rather burn through some resources to get a guarantee of the exotic I want hoping it's a good roll than to waste hours, days, weeks, or months trying to get ONE or TWO of the exotic I want and still have it be a crappy roll. Seriously, the fact I can work my tail off trying to get a contraverse from sectors and wind up getting every gauntlet BUT contraverse is infuriating, and far more deterring than any resource cost, to me. Seriously, the resources aren't that hard to come by. You can max out Shaxx pretty easily, several times a week if you want, and that will give you TONS of resources to burn, and at that point thanks to the exotic drop rate now, you're only limited by Ciphers.
