Ghosts in the Deep

Whoever at bungie thinks this is a fun / do-able dungeon, (mostly looking at you Ecthar), is on crack, or DOES NOT PLAY THE GAME. Infinite spawning adds, is fine. Except that it is immediate, every time. There is no 5-10 second delay on “waves”. You kill a spot, they’re immediately back up. They do too much damage. I am running a maxed everything build, and either devour for void, or mail for strand, and even picking up *double healing* orbs, I am still almost dying every 5 seconds. The mechanic of this dungeon, honestly pretty enjoyable. I like it, and figuring out how it worked under pressure(HA! Get it!?) was even cooler. But oh boy welcome to yet another one of bungie’s now infamous: time-gated dps phase, that is WAY TOO SHORT, oh and features a mobile boss, and a mobile damage start mechanic. So the planets need to align perfectly, and even when they do, welcome to Spire of the Watcher type dps phases. Aka—no damage, or if you get a good amount prepare for the almost guaranteed wipe once the adds come right back. I am thoroughly convinced this sh** is due to them pandering so much to their “content creators” who say the dumbest things about the game, to force their hand in making it impossible. For background, I solo damn near everything that can be solo’d. In D1, I was one of the first to solo Crota, I solo’d shattered throne when it first released (still get nightmares, I never want to see that ogre room again.) And all the new dungeons, I’ve done solo, flawlessly. But wow. This makes original duality look like the first mission in D1. A cakewalk. Conclusion: Bungie devs DO NOT play-test their content, or have any desire in playing it. This is very much the iteration 1 Avalon Legendary difficulty. Except this was on NORMAL ghosts. I bet Master is soooo much better. TL;DR - Dungeon is beautiful, cool mechanic. Horrible, HORRIBLE, boss rooms. The adds are ridiculous, and there is almost no where in the first room to avoid damage at all times. 3/10. The gear looks good. But my God, fix it.

  • I agree with you wholeheartedly. There is no reason why you need one weapon (Arbarlest) to knock down each of the bosses' shields to do any meaningful damage. The mechanics are fun but they need to retool the health bar, damage needed, etc. to make this more palatable. Dungeons are supposed to take less time than raids, this was not the case. There are plenty of other problems out there but this one is fairly easy to fix in my opinion.

    My only gripe is the dps phase on 1st boss was really buggy. • Sometimes the green pool disappeared in seconds • Sometimes the boss regenerated his shield when we were blasting him, kinda like the old bug when enemies immediately went back to full hp • Sometimes he teleported away before we even popped the shield As for the deepsight being under the boss, I get the feeling that's what the exotic is intended for.

    • After this review I won't even bother trying the darn thing. I could at leat do some of the spire solo. This looks like I will just delet the quest and walk away from it. The whole "challenge" thing Bungie is doing is a bogus mess! A sheer cluster of idiots never getting ti right.

      • As someone who almost solo flawlessly cleared yesterday, I appreciate everything in this dungeon. But it forces me to play bonk titan. There is no way I'm staying alive any other way. The biggest piss off is the last boss having a shield every damn dps and she moves too damn much while her visibility is not the best. Wtf bungie....

      • Totally disagree. Other than the final bosses HP this is an amazing and very accessible dungeon. If you’re having trouble watch videos for strategies and consider making changes to your load out. There are lots of videos about good loadouts for Destiny 2 and season of the deep.

              • Bruh ppl in my clan one phase or two phase the spire boss and we were three phasing the new dungeon boss. Not hard if u can keep buffs/debufss on

                  • Have to say I read this before I played the dungeon and was terrified I couldn’t do it. Really man I think you should do what I did and watch a kackis tutorial before you play, save yourself the frustration, really not all that complicated once you understand what the game wants from you.

                    • I actually loved it. Went in blind with a fire team and we all enjoyed it. Such a beautiful job aesthetically. Definitely agree with multiple points you make tho. Not a huge fan of the lucent moth swarm, it’s on the obnoxious side. I can see your point about the DPS duration.

                      • If you're on Warlock try running Stormcaller. Been running a Crown of Tempest build with a voltshot auto rifle. Use the swarm of ads to my advantage. Only part I haven't figured out is damage phase. I'm a bit too heavily ad focused, so I don't really do enough damage to Echtor, and I really don't have a 30 damage phase run in me. But otherwise, give that a try. Night and day difference in experience.

                        • I completed it first try. No team wipes. Hate this dungeon. Won't go back in. Don't want any of the weapons anyway. Emblem is cool, though.

                          • IDK i jumped in blind with a pvp loadout and did no bother optimising my gear at all and cleared in and hour and ten min. The solo and solo flawless runs on this are going to be a nightmare tho.

                              • The dungeon looks fantastic, but yes the adds are too strong and the bosses gave way too much health (mostly thinking how bad it is to solo). Not sure about the weapons though, apart from the rocket launcher I had drop with bipod so it was an immediate delete for me lol

                                • We did a welllock, and invis hunter and I ran an assassin’s cowl arc hunter for ad clear. The arc 3.0 is super strong this season. Both boss rooms were slogs, but once we got the hang of it, we could pretty quickly trigger the damage phases.

                                • I thought i should try this dungeon but after seeing the weapons and rolls on them i might skip it only 4 new weapons they can at least have added 6 or 7 weapons to chase.

                                    if solo, yes it is hella unfair 100% most of that hate is from the first encounter (like you cant even just walk up to the deepsight without a hive being in front of your face)

                                  • Skill issue, there are absolutely overpowered builds that can handle this dungeon with ease, not too mention artifact mods that pretty much make you invincible. Do some buildcrafting or look up a build if you're new and if it's still too hard go play a different game.
