I'm just wondering.
The theory is that "everyone" wanted the game harder. Boy oh howdy did they get what they wanted. Bullet sponge bosses. Underleveled on every activity. Goodbye power fantasy, hello sloggy grind.
I can't remember the last time I felt powerful in D2. I'm constantly struggling to get through almost every bit of PVE content. Everything has a solo penalty. (no rez, if you're soloing you've gotta flawless the segment) Every boss is a bullet sponge with an endless army of adds. The game of storming in and using your carefully crafted build to wipe out an enemy force has become a game of hiding, gunning from limited cover, trying to reserve ammo, and dying dozens and dozens of times.
Yes, I'm a solo player. I don't have a clan. If an activity doesn't have matchmaking, I'm alone. And does anyone else notice more and more content clearly designed for fireteams without matchmaking? Yeah. That too.
But I'm not seeing any outcry. No major plummet if players. Even despite the terrible reception of Lightfall's story.
Am I really alone? Are there so few solo players left? Because I've just been thrown right out of the game. Went from playing almost daily to a few hours a month. Struggled through the story of season 20, cheesed through the Calus fight to finish Lightfall. Now I'm immediately stuck on the two ridiculous boss fights with Season 21. (That boss fight in Part the Veil is hilarious. "No, the Tormentor and 9000 Taken adds aren't enough...let's throw in fire tornadoes! Oh, and of course it's at all 1800, over the level cap for season 20 available without taking part in stuff solo players really aren't able to approach so they'll be underpowered for the entire fight.)
I'm just wondering if it's just me. If the number of solo players is really that small.
And no, I'm not going to the forums to lfg. No other modern game requires players to go to an outside messaging system to find players to play their MMO.
And no, I don't know anyone who plays. I'm 53, and I work nights. Finding grown ups who are available at 330am on weeknights in Texas isn't a thing.
I'll now open the floor to people telling me to git gud, use the forums, and that the difficulty level hasn't changed/isn't hard at all.

2 RepliesOne last update then I'm leaving the thread. I found a couple videos about a solid hunter build I could do. I'd run it in past seasons. (The old one two punch arc hunter.) I put it together, mostly. I certainly don't have the artifact maxed out so I'm missing some of the top reasons it's a strong build later in that prpgression, but it was worth a shot. Basic activities, easy as pie, but I wasn't having trouble there. Went from not having trouble to dominating stuff like Salvage, though. Okay, fair enough. Upgraded the artifact a few levels, beefed up some of my gear (still well under 1800 given the upgrade slog unless you're doing pinnacle activities) and decided to try the two missions I've been stuck on: the Operation Twilight whatever seasonal story mission with the multi-phase servitor boss and the Part The Veil neomuna story mish with the tormentor boss. The first one was only a tiny bit better. This build didn't help, because the build is primarily an add clearing build. Clearing adds isn't the issue with the boss fight, killing the boss and not getting overrun by splodies is. Punching splodies is not helpful, punching bosses with death rays isn't either. Same issue as before: hit that third phase and just get dogpiled before my super comes back or I can dump a zillion bullets into the boss and end him. The artifact stuff that makes you less squishy and get your super back faster are a long way away and I just don't want to grind for days so I get really get to grinding. The other mission is still total comedy. With no rally point, your heavy runs dry after one attempt. With no heavy, you aren't doing damage to that tormentor. A direct hit with my super took down 1/8 of his health. The army of thralls? The build stopped working entirely. Dodging did not proc invis despite my helm. Punching did not proc chain lightning despite my equipped abilities. Nothing worked. Unless that tormentor has some suppression abilities I don't know about, it's bugged or I'm just cursed. It went just like it did with my previous builds (kinda basic strand and solar nuke knife) which was almost immediate death without even taking the boss down 25%. So I think I'm done. I'm broke flat. Can't even pay my bills, so I can't afford Diablo 4. So it's stuff I already own on PS4 or whatever comes out on PSN. My $100 is just lost, I'm considering D2 lost to me, they just don't want me and players like me as a player anymore. I do wish they'd just call the ball and stop even allowing single play. Matchmake. Require fireteams. Lock single players out of everything except running patrols and doing stuff like crucible and gambit. Just stop pretending. Have fun, y'all. I look forward to your steaming about server meltdowns. I'll check in from time to time, see if it's still stupid or if I can play the game I invested YEARS in again.

7 RepliesRaid and Dungeon bosses can still be one phased, Gm's are easier than ever before Most strike bosses can still be melted immediately up to Legend Every class can get their supers back in about 2 min or less avg. I'm in no way a "hardcore" player but I don't get where this "game is harder" whack is coming from. All that's changed is the game has become less carriable (to an extent) and requires more people to pull their own weight.

Actual Lightfall campaign and activities on Neptune are tougher and the ads more difficult, but the actual seasons aren’t bad at all. Strikes seem the same to me. I personally stay away from anything related to the Lightfall campaign and Neptune unless I really have to do it like the new strand aspect strand which I am only half way done
-
14 RepliesDestiny is the easiest it’s ever been the new mods system is broken as -blam!-
-
2 RepliesThis sounds like you need to learn how to use builds. Since 3.0 light classes came out, I doubt I've ever felt stronger in the game.
-
2 Repliesbro they’ve made it easier twice now. it’s almost back to where they changed it.
-
You can add me if you like and I will help you out where and when I can 🙂 I'm on PSN and gametag same as on here. I'm in New Zealand, so gametimes may not sync up until the weekend depending on where you are 👍

2 RepliesThis game isnt terribly hard if your gear is good. That being said if youre playing at 3 in the morning in texas you should try and find some aussies to play with thats our peak gaming time.

Thank your content creators and the sycophantic fans who frequent these forums. A challenging game like elden ring or any of the souls games is interesting and exciting, a shooter with a stacked deck and bullet sponge bosses augmented with cheap mechanics like blowing players off a edge that the game insists you play beside are off putting nuisances that people tend to walk away from. Challenge is good, unavoidable frustration is bad. Bungie is as always, clueless.

7 RepliesI’m confused as to what you find hard? There is ALWAYS a way to beat an encounter, a place to go, a weapon to use. Example; Callus, Osteo Striga, blinding nades, LMG, when I found this loadout, it was easier, though I disliked the encounter, swing like Tarzan until it’s over, no cheese necessary. As for LFG, I truly suggest you try it. Always no mic for 3 player activities, dungeons as well. So if you don’t like the experience, just leave and maybe find a better team. In the last week, me and my son have made 3 friends no mic but they were good players and seemed nice in their comments. We were farming master Grasp. You could have been one of those players, and we’d invite you to do GMs and other dungeons, even teach if necessary. Destiny is much easier when you have knowledge you need. I played with a guy who was doing way more DPS than us, so I copied his loadout. That’s what’s cool about playing with random people, you learn things, sometimes. Hope things go better for you in the future.

23 RepliesI'm a solo player now, was in a clan a few days ago but i left, because a new member was toxic towards me in last wish raid, saying i was slow, and holding everyone up, and started laughing. So new dungeon i won't be doing. Can't wait for Diablo IV.
-
Since Lightfall, everything feels off and wrong, and broken. Prior to LF difficulty felt perfect whether solo or in a group. Operation: Seraph Shield was perfect and I'm baffled at how they've screwed things up so badly for no reason.

2 RepliesA lot of it is too hard to be fun. I hate getting 90% of the way through a legendary lost sector just to be killed with one shot from a red bar I didn't notice. Just happened in The Communion on the Moon. Didn't see the sniper shank because I was shooting the boss and trying not to get killed by an invisible enemy. The so-called aim assist gets me killed over and over. You get a yellow bar almost dead and a red bar runs by and your weapon follows it. Rounds try to go through walls to center mass when you're aiming at the boss's exposed arm. How is any of that assisting me? Play how you want as long as you use specific weapons and armor. Is there an easy, medium and hard setting? Of course not because Bugnle's pet streamers would whine and cry. I'm not a terrible player. I've done a lot of lost sectors master, solo flawless and got to 1836 last season, but it's getting old.

5 RepliesEdited by shero4001: 5/27/2023 6:32:56 AMI agree it was not what the majority of players wanted solo or those of us in a clan but bungie did not listen to the 99% of the community who were opposed to the change but the 1% who supported it. I'll admit right now i soloed a few dungeon's ran a few raid's like a mad man probably to the point where some might think i'm a bit crazy. But at the end of the day i'll still disagree with bungie catering to the 1% every time.

1 ReplyRight there with you. I hate the difficultly level. There are a lot of activities I don’t even want to do now. Just not fun!!!
-
2 RepliesI just wanted to chime in and thank the folks that showed up to make sure we had representatives from the "git gud" "solo is stupid" and "it's not even hard it's easy" crowds despite what I said in the post. D2 forums never disappoint. For the record, I agree wholeheartedly that making stuff harder was fine...just don't make mainline story stuff harder with no option to opt out. Legendary exists for a reason. Crank that stuff way up. Leave the other stuff alone. Make hard, harder. Don't take "normal" away. And that's what I'm referring to. Currently stuck on the ridiculous grind of that three-phase boss at the end of the Season of the Deep story mission that's a massive bullet sponge, with a huge AOE attack, with constant Fallen adds, and the final phase has a simply stupid amount of splodey shanks coming from every direction on top of all the Fallen and death rays from the boss and of course if you die once you start all the way over with no save points between phases. I'm not talking legendary content. I'm not talking optional content. I'm not talking neptune. I'm talking basic seasonal story content. Why make it this much of a boring, repetitive slog? Because a certain class of player complained the game wasn't hard enough and they decided to please them even though it meant leaving us behind.
-
I think when people wanted harder content they wanted hard MECHANICS no enemies like the whisper of the worm mission.
-
I am not going to get gud 😂 there is definitely a spike in the difficulty now for sure I will say someone who is in a clan things are easier for sure but I do solo quite a bit of content And some build crafting can work wonders for a solo player I played around with a couple different builds until I found one that worked for my play style That being said I’m am admittedly somewhere between a try hard and a casual so I find being in a clan sometimes the competitive aspect of me comes into play so I solo stuff that’s a bit tedious at times just to gloat to my friends 😂 Calus was a -blam!- agreed 👍 I would say to try and give lfg a shot it’s not really as bad as people say it can be but I can only speak for myself but I have had pretty good experiences. I believe in game lfg is coming out next season hopefully that will help out a bit I’m more than happy to help if you are on PlayStation go ahead and send an invite if I’m on I can help you run whatever

1 ReplyUnfortunately Bungie is determined to stick it to solo players. The bread crumb they gave us was the artifact mod that gave solos a 10%damage bonus when alone. That bonus should be permanent if your running alone.
-
4 RepliesSame!! Also a solo player I don't think everybody's aware that this is a Communist game originally from Australia now owned by Sony they are all Communist I try to post a screenshot of a server Call destiny 2 booster service And it's owned by destiny AKA bungee using umbrellas and corporations in different names but it originates and it's owned by the same company This is why they took away all of the worlds and now they're selling it back to us and then you sign a waiver when in order to play the game It is despicable it is straight disgusting I have too much time invested in this And now in order to play a dungeon you need to pay an additional 30.00 dollars After purchasing the game after purchasing DLC after purchasing season pass They know a lot of people play solo and they want you to buy their extra services and they call it destiny to booster service The services ranges from anywhere from $500 up I'm sure the moment one of the developers see my post they are going to flag me and ban me from posting for the next 90 days like they always do they don't want people to know that they are Communist and technically this is straight up illegal but because we sign waivers in order to play the game they think they got us United we stand divided we will fall
-
4 RepliesI always have preferred solo. I had to do the LFG thing for a couple weapons and armor I def wanted: Gally dungeon. I know the raid mechanics just from watching and hearing from others. But the one time I did one I got shamed for not doing enough damage. Ain’t got time to make a perfect build with triple 100 stats. Got a job and a family. So oh well. You ain’t alone, trust me.
cheesed through the Calus fight to finish Lightfall. Now I'm immediately stuck on the two ridiculous boss fights with Season 21.
The on top of bubble cheese still works.
-
21 RepliesYou’re not alone. Anybody disagreeing with you is a moron or a straight up -blam!-. I’m all for GM and raids and such to be hard mode. But anybody saying “they haven’t changed difficulty” or “join LFG” isn’t remotely keyed into the game and completely ignored why you couldn’t. The game is designed to be played solo. The fact that virtually everything has MM proves it’s designed to be played solo. If it was (as many erroneously claim) to be only played with friends, there would be no MM.

Edited by Dominator of Oats: 5/27/2023 2:43:57 AMI would say I see this complaint about difficulty a lot, but I think it actually gets people to play more. Surprisingly people are resilient. They want to find the next thing that will get them feeling powerful. For me that’s a double special setup with an LMG/GL/RL. The adds are tanky, fine, I’ll use an LMG, or a trace rifle, I’ll use defensive abilities and -blam!- about Arc being weak in high end content. Pretty soon, I’ll have no reason to run a primary weapon other than bounties. I guess Bungie is okay with that. I will say, that last room in the dungeon was basically the definition of incredibly annoying and got me tilted multiple times. I’m fine with enemies dealing high damage and catching me off guard, but I hate feeling like paper getting hit and wet noodles back. They literally designed it so that you would have to jump in and out of the water to heal up. I didn’t like that. At least salvage can be fun. Having the whole game be a grind fest is not fun, and it shows. No one hangs out on Neomuna. Maybe they added fishing so we would stop complaining? I really think some of the people developing this game think, well if you don’t want a challenge just play patrols and public’s. They don’t get it. Challenge in this game has turned into: play Well, or Bubble, or Invis, or else the 9 lucent moths who don’t blow each other up for some reason will get you. Put on high resilience, resistance mods and make sure you’ve got woven mail somehow or get blow up by tiny things you can barely hit. It’s reckoning all over again.
-
I just stopped giving a crap if something becomes tedious I just switch it off and play something else I've never understood playing something because it's hard I play something to be fun and engaging
-
Solo here… feel exactly the same
-
I felt the same for almost all of last season until I hit the level cap. Things started feeling a LOT better after. Difficulty is still up for sure, but I think the big light level jump in lightfall made it feel a lot worse at first, at least for me.
