This leak you are talking about is what happens when people play the game Telephone, eventually the word passed around gets altered slightly by poorly observant people and the word changes altogether. In this case, the leak you are referring to originally was talking about the Final Shape expansion. The original sources say this clearly. But you are referencing it from what another person said about it, and clearly they didn't read the fine print. Bungie stated very clearly in a early Lightfall TWAB when they first mentioned Season of the Deep, that the power level would not increase, no where stating anything about the system itself changing. If you saw the confirmed photo leaks from the summit, it stated Final Shape would remove power all together for a new level system. Keep in mind, that anything in development can be subject to change and therefore a leak can end up not happening. Moral of the story, look at the hard source of the leak itself (with grain of salt) and pay attention to what Bungie says word for word, and not rely on what other people say the leak was, because some people suck at reading the fine print or remembering it but confidently feel they know everything about the game and what they are talking about.

The removal of the Pinnacle grind for the current Season was confirmed by the devs some time back.
