Error Code Monkey. TRIED EVERYTHING

So my friend keeps getting error code monkey every time they kill one enemy in one of the first missions. I have tried everything that I could find to solve the problem, see below: -Cleared the game cache -Verified the game files in steam -Checked DNS settings -Verified the internet connection is strong and is a wired connection -Restarted the PC -Got Windows all up to date -Restarted my internet, modem, and router -Even had them logout of their Steam and log back in Nothing has worked. They can go to the tower and walk around, interact with NPCs, with no issues. Get into that first mission, kill one enemy and like clock work the game disconnects with error code monkey. Not sure if this means anything but they did cross save their account from Xbox. Anyone possibly have the solution? Or has anyone ran into this issue as well? Update: I believe, other than something that is not on our end, it may have to do with the character that was chosen being from before the game went Free to Play. We created a new character, ran the very first mission and were able to successfully kill several enemies with no problem. Would like to not lose that progress on the original character but at least we can play.

  • Same here just started playing for the first time since Taken King & anytime I kill an enemy I get d/c & get the monkey error code. I have seen a lot of people say to delete characters but for someone who just decided to give this game a chance again on a whim I will probably just not start playing again this kinda just soured me on the whole experience very quickly, glad I didn't buy anything at least, I'm sorry to anyone that did. Very disappointing I spent the money I did on this in the past to not even be able to play it now that I decided to pick it back up again. Also definitely not my connection everything else in my house is running at over 800mb/s

  • So yes. I unlinked the cross save accounts (Xbox and pc) then moved all my gear except some junk gear (worn on character to be deleted) to the vault. Then deleted the character and started over. Annoying to have to get a ship again but once you get to the city you can grab some exotics and boost their light level with whatever you scrounged getting to the city. BE SURE TO REMOVE ANY MODS THAT ARENT SUPPORTED ANYMORE. Says something like "redacted mod". So far the character works great and no more monkey error. And don't forget your ship and speeder! (Down from gear selection page.)

    • Same. I cross-saved my original characters from launch over to Steam and none of them will work. I get the disconnect with Monkey error code every time I initiate combat but I can run around and do anything else for as long as I want.

    • also have this problem. brand new install through epic games (today), cross saved my account from xbox today, error code monkey as soon as I attack an enemy.

      • I have the same problem as well and could not use a character created from a few expansions back. However when I created a new character and made it back to the first mission, I was not experiencing the same issue as I well able to get past the first few enemies (did not play much after that as I had to go to bed). Minor annoyance as it seems a few cosmetics are not shareable between guardians on the same account.

      • Same issue. Only affects old characters. Can create new character and have no problem playing but that's not a viable solution. Starting over takes waaaaaay too long to catch back up to where I am. Playing on Xbox Series X. Enabled cross play to get my character from the Xbox One. Both systems will return to orbit a second after killing an enemy so it's not an issue with the system. Both systems are ethernet but tried wifi anyway. No luck. I reset router, MAC, internet settings, set everything to automatic, etc, no luck. I uninstalled and reinstalled the add-ons, dlc, and the entire game. I also went to an entirely different internet source (my work) and had no luck. I have deleted save data, created a new character, even tried transferring all of my new character's equipment to one of my old characters (just in case it was an equipment error or something) No luck there either. I also bought all of the expansions to be sure it wasn't something that got shoved off into an expansion I didn't have and now it was being required. That wasn't it either. Bungie has clearly made an error on their end that it blocking old characters from being used and they're not addressing it. I am currently downloading the game on Steam and going to try there but I doubt it will work either.

            Same here, it only happens with my Titan, my Hunter and Warlock don't have the issue, there are neumerous posts around this now and it seems to have been since the Deep arrived and only with Titans (unconfirmed but suspected from other posts and mine) I have two xbox's and it does the same on both, Disconnects as soon as I hit an enemy, both wired connections

            • I am having the same issue. I'm returning player on PlayStation. I haven't played in like five years. I started on PS4 and am now trying to play on PS5. Like your friend, I can do just about anything that I can think of except deal damage. I've tried using a wired connection, restarting my modem/router and re-installed the game. I did NOT use cross save.

            • I'm a returning player who hasn't played since 2019 and I'm getting the same error when trying to play my legacy character from then. I highly doubt its an issue with my wired connection so I'm guessing Bungie messed up somewhere. I'm trying to get back into this game but I guess Bungie doesn't want my time or money....

              • I have the same issue. It would be lovely if Bungie had a way to get support from them about this if you live outide of South Korea or Japan or even put it on their help twitter that they know about the issue at all.

              • Having this same issue on xbox, my hunter works fine but my warlock and titan both get kicked as soon as I shoot anything.

              • Returning PC player and I am also having this issue on my old characters. I ended up making a new character just to play the game, and I haven't had the error pop up while playing that character. Hope Bungie finds a fix soon, would suck to be locked out of our old characters!

                Same issue here. Came back for first time since launch, bought all DLCs, first time playing since the merge to steam and free-to-play. Then I just get error code monkey every time I shoot an enemy on the first mission.

                Same issue for me as well. All characters encounter the issue. Haven’t played in a few years and decided to buy all the DLC since it’s on sale. Playing on Xbox, did all the troubleshooting on my end across my console/modem/router. It’s a bungie issue without a doubt at this point. I also tried playing in a fireteam and not doing damage to enemies but I was still booted whenever any damage was done by my teammates. I’m in the process now of removing all items from my characters and seeing if there’s a certain legacy item in our inventories that may be causing the issue. Other than that I’m about out of ideas. This is extremely frustrating spending money and getting a group of friends together to pick up this game after 3-4 years just to have a shitty bug like this. Update: removing items from inventory made no difference. I also tried playing a round of crucible, I got a minute or so in and 2 kills before I got booted with same error message I’m convinced there’s a pacifist setting on somewhere that boots us whenever we do any harm

                • I'm having the same issue, I just spent over $80 on this and the only charter that seems to work is my warlock. I'm on Steam now and used the cross save feature to use my old original characters from year one and two from PlayStation. When I was on the free to play version I could use all my characters no issue, but as soon as you take my money and I start the first mission to try it out on my old titan and this happens. I'm really irritated because you update the game and make it so much harder for people to want to come back to it.

                • Same thing happening to me. Coming from PS4 D2:Forsaken to Xbox X D2:Lightfall. Paid for expansions and everything. Second I finish an enemy I get booted to orbit with error code monkey. Really frustrated that I spent money to come back into this game after so long only for it to be unplayable. I’m seeing posts about this from as far out -blam!-/23, and sill no fix. Bungie, we need you to get on this asap.

It happens anytime I kill an enemy or interact with objects in the open world or kill an enemy during a campaign mission (those are the two I tested). Basically, anytime an enemy dies. I am able to interact with vendors in The Tower without issue. I have confirmed and tried the following troubleshooting steps: Connected via Ethernet (not WiFi) Using my own separate modem and router Cleared Steam Download Cache Confirmed UPnP is enabled Confirmed latest Firmware on Router Restarted Modem and Router Restarted Steam multiple times Restarted computer multiple times Confirmed Windows PC is up to date Verified internet connection is stable and low latency with multiple speed tests Enabled all Inbound and Outbound Connections to Destiny's .exe files Setup Account Verification via SMS (just in case that mattered) I am not having a problem with any other online games or internet connections. This is my first time back since 2019 and I don't recall ever having to go through so much troubleshooting. Really hope this gets addressed as I would like to check out all the content I've missed. Thanks!

                  • J'ai exactement le même problème, cela fait plusieurs années que je n'ai pas joué, en lancant le jeu aujourd'hui je me fait déconnecter des que je tue un ennemi, avec un messages d'erreur: monkey. (avec mes trois personnages. J'ai tout essayé rien ne fonctionne, j'aimerai tout de même pouvoir rejouer un jour. Aucun service client pour avoir ne serais-ce qu'une reponse, ou juste une considération
