It's time to bring back choosable scopes for scouts.

In an ideal world, we'd have long range scopes for your primary, and then an offset short range optic or iron sights, with the ability to toggle between them by pressing the altfire button (holding reload). This would allow them to be a much more versitile weapon. Since bungie is apparently repulsed by the game living up to its potential, that won't be happening. But being able to choose your optic would definitely fix some problems with the weapon type. Every scout rifle is now fixed for either relatively close range engagements with holo or iron sight optics, or longer ranges with scopes. As a result they are outocmpeted by literally every weapon in the game at close range, and are outcompeted by snipers/bows and generally outflinched by most other weapons at long range. And PVE there is this one kid who is absolutely convinced that legendary scout rifles are a god tier s rank weapon against all evidence, but that kid aside if you are going to use a scout rifle at all it better be an exotic one because you're gonna need the small but scientifically measurable damage bump.... Which kinda means legendary scouts might as well not even exist at this point in the game.

Pretty much why i dont want to get rid of my Ether Doctor. Like, finding a weapon with a perk roll you desire is one thing but finding that personal God Roll with the Scope you prefer is a great feeling. Oh wait, this is only for Scouts? Would prefer all interchangeable Scopes for weapons to be available again.

    • Choosing our scopes would be such a simple thing to add and something that should have been a thing from the get-go, but Bungie are hardly known for quality these days plus they would probably not be keen on it cos they would argue that people would just use the same one, to which I would say: maybe make all the options meaningful, impactful and have redeeming qualities about them. But that requires effort.

Just stop playing destiny 2, instead play fallout 76, i rarely encountered any bugs and as a player with 600+ hrs in fo76, it's an awesome game. I also played destiny 2, and what I think is that fallout 76 is more fun than destiny. While I was playing destiny, i slept on my chair, i dont know why. I played both games and I know which is more fun. Been playing destiny 2 since last october.

            • The game not living up to its potential is the perfect way to describe the situation. Very concise. Bungie's reluctance to make any simple improvements to the player experience makes me feel like things will continue to get worse. It's looking grim from my perspective. I recall seeing someone else say that most people that complain about the game, just want it to be better because they can see potential, and they don't like what's being done to the game.

            • This, but Bungie probably won’t do it until they’ve disconnected the zoom stat from the recoil. Think they mentioned they were working on this when Ikelos SMG was nerfed.

            • Scopes in Destiny 2 modify effective damage range. Until that changes, high-zoom scopes need to come with noticeable downsides to balance them - notably a smaller field of view and more difficult "tracking" at close range Scouts shouldn't be usable at close range, just like handcannons shouldn't be usable at long range. There are pros and cons to every weapon type that allow them to excel in different situations

            • Having to pick your scope of choice for most legendary weapons would be nice. Auto rifles, pulse rifles, scout rifles, sniper rifles etc....

            • They have already said they don't want to. It is a major hassle to balance these the director said.

So basically... In Destiny 1 the reason you could have multiple scope options was because guns were modularly designed so they all kind of looked the same but could have different parts attached to set them apart just a tiny bit. This meant that they could have a multitude of scope options without causing clipping or other issues, this also applied to armor btw(ever notice how a lot of armor clips through each other in D2?). In Destiny 2 they did the same thing but players demanded more unique looking weapons and its a fair request. So Bungie decided to go with making more unique weapons like Black Armory, Reckoning and Opulent etc. iirc in Destiny 2 they removed the multiple scope option because of balance issues but I guess also due to not being able to make them fit on different weapon models added in the seasons(Black Armory also added new unique changeable scopes just for those weapons). Not like that matters anymore anyway since it seems we will be getting just reskinned older weapons from now on in seasons.

                • People have hated every scout meta, scouts are overpowered in that they are a primary with more than double the range of every other weapon, the only thing they can get gunned by at their optimal ranges are a sniper or a bow(which is in need of a tuning anyway).

                  • Bungie says in the 3/30 TWAB... "We are going to be taking a look at how zoom interacts with damage fall off, and the base damage fall off ranges of all weapons in general. Zoom, and perks like Rangefinder that manipulate zoom, have become a requirement on several weapon types, either to compete at all in the sandbox, or to allow the weapon to exceed its intended engagement ranges. This has led us to begin to consolidate zoom values on certain weapon archetypes, which removes an important lever that we can use to modify weapon feel, given the effect zoom has on field of view, recoil reduction, and aim assist falloff. We will be investigating decoupling damage falloff from zoom (this would be paired alongside a refresh of the base damage falloff values to compensate), which should allow us to better control the engagement ranges of individual archetypes, while at the same time letting us continue to use zoom as a tuning knob for weapon feel without dramatically changing their performance." https://www.bungie.net/7/en/News/article/destiny-2-twab-3-30-23 This is in conjunction with the upcoming nerf to Rangefinder and the adjustments to zoom on some weapons. I'm not a developer but I would guess the relationship between weapon scopes, perks, and zoom is much more complicated than it might first appear.

                  • Disagree that usage of a scout in PVE needs to be an exotic. I’m fact, I’d argue that outside of skyburners in certain niche areas or MAYBE Polaris, running an exotic scout isn’t worth it in PVE. ESPECIALLY now that you’ve got the kinetic tremors perk in the wild, I’d take that all day long in PVE. In PVP, you’ve got several exotic scouts that are easy top-of-the-class picks. But not so much in PVE.

                  • Would be nice for every weapon type i guess, but probably would come with unbalances and problems.

                  • I'm against it. Two reasons: 1. Multiple scopes per weapon made balance nearly impossible in D1. It was a feature that lead to having truly OP rolls. I had un-nerfable weapons that honestly needed nerfs. 2. At close range, I do pretty well with scouts. You just have to mentally let go of what it's "supposed" to be. Yes it's best at long ranges, but it can most definitely kill at close range.

                    • Yeah. I agree. However, I would prefer all energy and heavy weapons be able to have any of the damage types again. In fact, just get rid of Kinetic damage so Stasis and Strand can be on any weapon in that slot.
