Use a machine gun and use it all the time for heavy spree medals. Finish mini bosses and champions but emote before you do for extra points - this is a really important one.

Go on medal sprees rotating between ability and weapon kills. Also emote before you finish yellow bar enemies. With gold boon active you will get 8000 plus per gold bar enemy. I did this solo, used fireteam chat to let my randos know this info. You'll know pretty fast if they are willing to help. If not, leave em high and dry and start another encounter. I only say that bc my first couple runs my randos were burning everything so fast after I asked them if we could please emote finish yellow bars. If you are going to purposely sabotage the run you will do it without me. Esoteric did this solo and racked up 400k score. TLDR: emote before you perform a finisher on all yellow bar enemies.

I scraped 175k with randoms yesterday and have got there more comfortably since as more players have picked up on the best strat. Basically echoing what the previous posters have said. Getting the ‘Insult To Injury’ medal for emoting before finishing a yellow bar is worth something like 2000-3000 additional points and without doing this you probably can’t get 175k just killing everything even if you get loads of spree and rampage medals. Pick up any orbs you see lying around as well for small but cheap score addition. You can kind of score track if you’re roughly on target. You’re looking for at least 6k exiting first room. You want over 25k making the first jump. Over 50k getting past releasing the first psion prisoners. Maybe 110-120k getting past tormentor and around 155k getting to final boss. Try not to insta-melt the boss third phase because you can grab extra points from the turrets and psions that spawn. You can get the extra medal points for any yellow bar and there are hordes of them in this strike. Just try to get them before your team mates melt them. If it’s clear that they’re not doing the same strat just jump out and start again because you won’t get there.

You have to emote before doing a finisher on champions ans yellow bars.

For red bars I know scouts aren't the funnest but there's a medal for scout kills, precision kills, precision scout kills, rapid kills, rapid precision kills, and rapid precision scout kills and so you can get like 10K points for killing 8 red bars in a row anything above this so major and above go for insult which as other people have said is emoting then finishing.

The best medal to get is Insult to Injury; get any enemy that is orange bar or higher into finisher range, use an emote (it's pretty inconsistent, so try to maintain the emote for a couple of seconds), and then use the finisher. Each one is worth 3750 points and there are tons of enemies to do it on this week. Whenever you have your Super, never use it on a big target. 3 rapid kills with a Super gets you the Let There Be Light medal, which is also quite valuable, and longer Supers can get more than one per activation. Using it to kill a Champion, for example, means you'll miss out on both of these medals and waste 6-7k every time you do it. Other than that, just don't die and go for the streak and spree medals. Every 10, 20 and 30 kills with a particular group of weapons gets you a medal worth a decent amount. You get rapid kill medals for 3, 6 and 9 with weapons and abilities, and ones at 5, 10 and 15 for rapid kills with anything of the same element. Good places for this are the War Beast spawns during the Tormentor fight and after the first ball dunk in the boss fight, you can rack up a lot of points by killing them quickly with a heavy weapon. If you see that someone else is already doing this, don't interfere, as you might screw up their sprees. Machine Guns are really good for getting those medals, but I think Glaives are also a good choice. The stabby stab should count as both a special weapon kill and a melee kill, so you're getting two types of medal at once. Finally, try to avoid melting the boss. There is a wave of enemies that spawns after the second ball dunk, but most people delete the boss and make those enemies despawn, which means points are thrown away. By putting these into practice, I was able to get a score of about 235k solo.

I got plat with randoms quite a few times just from playing mindlessly If you want a for sure way tho, duo it and emote/finish every orange/yellow bar. Got over 200K that way
