Our TTK is too fast for a peer to peer game

I know this is probably an unpopular opinion but ttk is too low for this game. Many weapons fire fast enough and with enough damage that without the best of connections the enemy can be a whole burst/shot ahead of you. That's why a lot of duels in Crucible feel so bad. That one "ghost" bullet makes each fight feel unfair. I'm not sure this is fixable though. Lowering ttk would improve matches imo but it would not fully compensate for the peer to peer nature of this game. I also worry that adding an extra shot or two for each kill would cause too much uproar. What do you think?

      Destiny has one of the slower ttks in FPS games. You do know that, right?

      • So effectively you want to nerf primary weapon ttk, the primary weapon ttk that the whole community has wanted to be as low as possible since the bs we had at d2 launch when ttk was so high that we had to team shot everyone to even try to get a kill. 😂 all because you can’t aim and blame ghost bullets.

        • It would severely cripple the game, but the only way to fix it without completely rewriting the game engine is to limit matchmaking to strict regional matching only, and not expanding it for any reason. And to only allow the players with the best, most stable connections to actually play. The only other way to fix it is to have dedicated servers that can account for lag and equalize gameplay. But that would require high monetary and time investments, and the game being down for extended periods of time to enable all of it. With D2 being so close to the end of its life, it's just not worth it at this point.

          • What makes pvp especially unnenjoyable to me is that I get dmg while the other person is still behind cover on my screen (or I am) and bullet magnetism. I will be behind cover on my screen, yet the game registers me in the open and shots hit me through the wall. Happens all the time. I just can't stand that BS so I decided to play as little as possible, as that obviously won't ever be fixed, or is not possible.

            Well it’s a good thing we finally went back to CBMM! This literally solves the majority of your complaint. Hopefully bungie stays with this. Matchmaking is 100x better now that it has been for a long time.

            • I agree, ttk is getting too low. Team shot is instant kill. Regular PVP feels like momentum control a few years back

            • 100% correct. OP high range fast charging one shot fusions, snipers that one shot before you can even see the shooter because they don't load until after you're dead, submachine guns and literal laser beams. On top of that there's gimmicks like invisibility which gives you an advantage in any encounter, citan barricades (nerfed and now nobody uses it but used to be very strong) and other -blam!-. The game feels genuinely unplayable even with a little lag from p2p servers because so much will kill you instantly and too much of that time window in which you might be able to get back into cover or shoot back is eaten up by latency. I've just come out of a trials game against 3 cloudstrike users and everytime I was sniped I couldn't see any red scope light or players on my screen until after my death.

            • I agree with this post. I've said the same thing. Increasing time to kill would at the bare minimum make fights slightly more fair because it would give people more time to react to lag spikes. Pvp is very much just not registering actions in the timeframe needed for all people..

              • The solution is to scrap P2P (probably in a D3, I doubt they can or will do it with D2), not to slow down ttk.

              • Personally I think they should bring back 150 HC because the ttks are so low on most weapon types. No Im not agreeing with you that the ttk is to low. But other weapons should be brought in line since the majority of competitive weapons have a .7-.6ttk.

              • The fast TTK and movement speed synergizes. If you nerf one, you'll definitely have to nerf the other, or else you'll be a sitting duck or be very difficult to kill.

              • I think that most weapons are fine, sitting in the 0.75s to 1.00s range, but the ones that are faster than that are the outliers that may need to be addressed. Cover is abundant on most maps and all 3 classes have movement options available to them; if the average TTK gets longer, then there is the risk that no one will get any kills because it's so easy to escape a losing battle before you die.
