Stupid Rant: Guardian Ranks made me put a pause on playing.
I know it's really stupid, but I stopped playing after getting about 85% to Level 8. I really hate Dungeons, and queuing up with Strangers, and trying to learn all of that. I don't want to feel like I'm a sub-class of player because I don't want to do that kind of stuff, and it bums me out that I can't progress because of it.
I'm a filthy casual that likes to play solo and do random matchmaking. In the past, there wasn't a scarlet letter floating above my head that said I haven't run dungeons. Thankfully, "KWTD" doesn't exist anywhere else in the Universe than Fireteam Search, so I can put this miserable chapter of life behind me.
So, I've uninstalled for now with the hope that these kinds of pointless rankings go away at some point. I have no idea what purpose they serve other than making some people feel like they're wasting their time by not progressing in activities they dislike doing.
My suggestion: Make it some kind of symbol that shows your play-style. Maybe, like some kind of Seal or Title. Or a bar of colors that shows what color your outfit was in a couple games. Anything but a number with arbitrary requirements. Or a toggle that lets you turn it off altogether would be great.
Anyway, I know it's stupid, but thanks for listening Guardian!
EDIT: Thanks very much for the general advice! To clarify my issue, I've been playing off-and-on since 2015 and have about 2K+ hours in the game, I love it! But ranks make me feel like I'm playing the game wrong because I'm a bit anti-social, which I think is actually the point of the system.
Think I've read that people that join communities play (and spend) more, so my interpretation is that this is encouraging that behavior by creating a progression system tied to activities that require social interaction.

1 ReplyHating Dungeons, and I would assume Raids for the same reason, is quite an odd take, considering they're the game's best offerings. Hating the idea of learning a new activity is entirely foreign to me. I get the trepidation around using LFG for non-matchmade stuff, but there are plenty of people out there who are either in the same situation as you, so you can learn together, or are more than willing to teach you. Ultimately, the rank numbers only have as much importance as you place on them. Contrary to what you say, it seems like you care quite a bit about them and how you think it makes others perceive you.

The rank, IMO, literally only says you have personal time available to play the game this season..It doesn't reflect skill level, years of expertise or anything...so just ignore it. Bungie will come up with something else soon that players will chase after. It's the nature of the game. Find the elements of the game that you like and play it for that, don't get caught up in giving value to things that you normally dont care about.

Omg dude, ranks don’t make you a good player. Who cares what rank I am? I can play good, and don’t need a rank to prove it. I’m rank 7, I assume I’m better than most rank 11s. I may be wrong, but I don’t think so.

I agree with you, it's little more than an ego-stroke, but how players view it can vary. Some players use it for a sense of accomplishment, while others use it as grounds for boasting or to ridicule others. As a solo player (I'm primarily a solo player myself), you really shouldn't put much stock into the ranks. I also agree with the idea of being able to toggle it on/off. I have 8-9 seals, some of which may hold more value than others (or so I've been led to believe), but I don't equip titles. I complete seals for my own satisfaction, not the approval of others. If you want to pursue ranks, then you should, but only for you. If not, disregard them and play the game simply because you enjoy it. However you decide to go, the important thing is to have fun.

I will be 100% honest here Everyone that's 10-11 don't care about your rank Of everyone they know how useless these are and there's some pretty bad requirement that can stop some peoples early If you are 6-9 (nice) we don't care ....those that are ....these peoples would have found a way to hate you anyway

18 RepliesThat’s kinda the point of guardian ranks though. It lets people know the rough skill level of people joining their fireteams. Obviously there are exceptions as some good players can’t be bothered to rank up, but the majority of level 6 and 7 players just aren’t very good and this lets people see that so they can boot them.

No one cares about guardian ranks, they're as meaningless as last year seasonal battle pass rank.

The only thing I have a problem with guardian ranks, is that you have to UNLOCK objectives. Why? Make it so that all objectives are unlocked and your rank goes up depending on how many you complete. Nothing locked behind an individual rank (Solo dungeon can be done as a rank 6 for example).

I’ve done gms, lots of endgame content like dungeons and raids with more time than I want to admit but I’m still at rank 6 because I don’t care to buy lightfall. It’s a number that indicates how much you’ve spent on the game. It doesn’t directly impact gameplay, so why bother? It’s an arbitrary fake number placed on you by bungie.

Seriously though I would never of soloed spire if it wasn't a requirement and I actually had a good time learning it, when I got it done I decided to try others and have since solo flawlesses shattered throne, pit of heresy, prophecy and went back and did spire without dying. Starting to work on grasp now before finishing with duality, I would never have attempted without guardian ranks being a requirement. I also like finding level 2 to 5s to see if I can help them out and show them the inns and outs. Weather you are rank 1 or 11 is irrelevant as long as you are having fun. If you need help with dungeons hit me up, am happy to go slow and let you learn what to do

You can still play the game, guardian ranks are just a side project if your bored but if you do plan on keeping it deleted, wish you the best, there are alot if games out their. Personally though outside has never felt better

1 ReplyMake an LFG asking for help. Plenty of decent players willing to help with patience to explain thing. Don’t let previous LFG experiences hold you back. Only thing is use a mic and communicate. If your struggling and not sure ask. I have helped before but it’s difficult if someone is not talking or listening.
