Legend Avalon is why I really dislike

You've definitely heard people complain that Destiny 2 is too easy. This is a common complaint from a lot of streamers and Day 1 raiders. This is and always has been a stupid complaint. These people have spent THOUSANDS of hours playing Destiny. Of course the game is going to feel easy, you donut. You are GOOD at it. The thing is, people don't like to say they're good at Destiny 2. They'd just rather say "The game's too easy" and ask for more of a challenge. This is called "humble bragging". Looking at the forums, it's very clear that the Legend Avalon mission is truly whooping people. Everything feels over tuned, you don't feel powerful, and there's a million adds biting at your heels the entire time. I get it. These are complaints from average players looking for a fun challenging time. Legend Avalon is not that. It is the culmination of 4 years of indoor kids screaming at Bungie to make the game harder. As a good player, I genuinely feel sorry for you guys that were just looking for a good time. I don't blame you for the state of the game. There used to be a middle ground for difficulty, but now the game either feels piss easy or brutal. Sadly, I don't see a way back to a balanced PvE. Edit: As expected, people with thousands of hours in this game are commenting that the game is too easy, not realizing that the game is only easy because they've been playing it for years. Imagine LeBron going to a varsity high school game and putting up 200 points and screaming "It's too easy!" That's what you gophers look like. Edit 2: Shout out to the Bungie Ninja that changed the title of my post "Legend Avalon is why I really dislike 'humble bragging' streamers" without notifying me. You are the real MVP. I hope Bungie gives you a commendation and some merch.

  • They (Streamers) want to make it harder for content. Thats literally the only reason. Almost everyone hated the increase in difficulty to the point where they actually had to scale it back some. Instead of letting the players decide (i know, wild idea right?) what difficulty they want to play, like they did back in D1 they just decided to shove it down our throats to please their hype shills.

I feel this way about a lot of the dungeons and raids. Its not that you cannot beat it, but its not enjoyable. I spent hours learning Spire and its not fun, its just insulting and a chore. The save points suck, especially in Avalon. What a bunch of crap. Pretty much everything is just a grind for the sake of being a grind. Developers need to be replaced with the A team, not some B list also rans.

      • My team went through legend avalon pretty easily the other night. However, there is a massive asterisk that needs to be added. We all took grandmaster-level builds in that complimented each other and are all regulars to end-game level pve. We do grandmasters for fun. Despite this, we wiped 1 time and died a total of about 6 times between us without wiping. We are 8x gilded conquerors and it was still difficult at times. To even think this is balanced properly for the average player, god forbid you play to have a bit of fun with your down time, is a joke and proof that bungie has lost touch with their player base. The streamers have all but ruined the game for 90% of the population because of their complaints that bungie foolishly listens to.

        • Without proper builds, destiny 2 endgame content feels really hard. Capping the light level is a good way to make the difficulty even for everyone but they need to make stuff like high stat armor, level up materials and exotics easily accessible. Not everyone has the time to grind nightfalls and master raids/dungeons for good armor sets and materials

I am an average level of skill player. What I lack in skill, I make up for in determination. Sometimes, there is one activity that seems beyond your reach and you have to work for. Not everything needs to be a given. For the record, Neomuna patrol zone is overtuned. No question. But Avalon is an EXOTIC QUEST. Legendary. Exotic Quest. This is supposed to be a pinnacle activity. When you beat it you feel like you actually accomplished something. There aren't many things like that in this game. The newest raid can be beaten in less than 1 hour and most of the fireteam can just go on ad clear. Grandmaster Nightfalls and this Legendary Avalon are really all that the highest level of PvE players have left in the game. Try to think about that if you can

          • I can solo the mission on normal if I want to. Haven't even tried legendary yet, mostly assuming that inevitable balance changes to season of the deep (sh!t) will take some of the edge off. Here's the thing. Bungie did get a lot of requests for more "rewarding mid level content". I requested it myself. Multiple times. Problem is that's not really what was delivered. What we got instead was stats nerfed to the breaking point, making it more important to build into resilience now more than ever, abilities slowed to the point it feels authentically painful, difficulty cranked way the hell up on anything that isn't end game content...and a lot of streamers doing the "this is fine dog" act. What really gets me is how much of a fraud the whole system is. Because of the leaks we now know people like Datto and Aztecross and the others are getting all the news up front. Which is one reason people think that bungie is doing whatever Datto tells them to, because he gets the notes up front and can start laying the argument for things needing to be nerfed, knowing it's about to be nerfed because he's been told! Or people reading off patch notes with fake enthusiasm or dissapointment. It's all staged.

            • I never went back to do the Legend for that one from the season with all the cabal at the base (I've already forgotten what it was for and the name of the instance), and I never felt I needed it. Over the Bungie FOMO. I couldn't be arsed at this point. That's a problem for Bungie, as I'm someone who's had thousands of hours in D1 and was on that path for D2 but for the Bungieness of everything over the last year or so. I'm betting there are many like me which is why they opened the game to FtP.

            • It's not the Streamers fault even though they have had a helping hand in ruining the game, This business is lost when comes to designing a game, mainly because they constantly change things without looking at the long run on how it will affect things, or what direction it will take them and that is where the problem lies. Just throwing in what they think will sell isn't a plan people, it's just slapping things together, and calling is good. That's just stupid development when it comes to a game's structure, loot system, challenges, etc... and the responsibility for this mess is 100% on the business for not knowing what they are doing other than going off of what sells. The game is so unbalanced in every aspect of it that it's actually stupid knowing they have been at this since 2007 between 2 games.

            • Wish I could upvote this more than once. My buddies and I did Legend Avalon two weeks ago for the first time. It took us a couple hours but we did it. Thank God they nerfed the Fire team multiplyer or that wouldn’t have been bearable. It also helped there were no champs or locked equipment.

I thought Legend Avalon was a fun challenge. It took some effort and figuring out and felt good to kick its -blam!-. I didn't even care about the glaive although its great for that first boss fight. It was a bit over tuned at first because you dont want people to avoid doing something as a group because its so much easier on your own and they addressed that rather quickly so people would feel good grouping up and doing it. We have so much AOE damage and crowd control available near constantly now and I think the mission was designed with the intention needing to take full advantage of that. People always say "but my build diversity" and usually what they have is barely a build but you are supposed to be looking at how to build to complete an activity not that you should be able to throw on whatever you feel like and crush everything. That doesn't even make sense. I enjoyed it. Its fine if some people don't like it. Everyone wont like everything in the game nor will everyone be able to do everything in the game. Thats life.

            • As someone who has had the luxury of beating it yes it sucks and I'm not going to do it solo but I've gone in with a team that is good enough to complete it. My bigger issue is the fact we have to do it 3x for the catalyst and once on normal to get the weapon. It's honestly more annoying how much we have to run the damn thing in the first place

Agreed. I have over 4,000 hours in the Destiny universe and even though I enjoy challenge and beat legend Avalon. This isn't it. It's garbage🗑. The difficulty is so high that you either need to study the game in and out, have the cheapest builds available, play corny-like and manipulate the AI, cheese from afar, etc. Forget buildcrafting. There is maybe 2 builds tops that work. And even when you do find a unique way to play, modifiers limit our creativity. Back in Destiny 1, modifiers were introduced to add some curveball and spice, but when EVERY activity dictates your build with modifiers now, it defeats the entire purpose of being creative. I especially gotta say this for base strikes. Those use to never have modifiers. Everything does now. Witch Queen campaign was great, why? Sure it had modifiers for challenge, but none of them dictated your build at all, no burns, surges, threats. Just tough enemies and go! Proper difficulty would be to make enemies more aggressive, intelligent, and accurate. But they are all the same. Once you know the game in and out, you can just manipulate the hell out of their outdated AI. For example; snipers always aim based on where you'll be, so just stop moving the second they shoot and they'll miss everytime. It just doesn't feel like a game that rewards tactical thinking and counter, it just revolves around manipulation of poor-intelligence but souped-up health and damage AI. It's bad. The enemies aren't smart. Bungie just keeps giving them steroids and calls it more difficult. So we're forced to use cracked burst damage builds and cheap map tricks because the enemy can't flank for -blam!-.

              • Not everything should be achievable or attainable by everyone at all skill levels.. There's a skill spectrum - the lower end will simply not get certain things accomplished without putting in a lot of additional effort. There are a few things I know I will not obtain simply because I choose not to put forth the effort to do them or learn how to do them. I don't come crying on the forums about it being too difficult - i accept my limitations and move on. Constructive criticism is good, whining and crying on both sides is sh!t take. Players can cry for easier or more difficult content, at the end of the day - Bungie looks at their engagement metrics and will adjust the game however they see fit; we're simply along for the ride.
