Worm Gods and the Deep

So we know that the Witness deceived the Hive Siblings, but they do not immediately (and arguably for Oryx, ever) serve the Witness, the Worm Gods mention the Deep, not the Witness, how can this be? Disregarding the retcon of the Witness itself, let's dive into the lore. The Resonant Fury (Titan) set is all about the Worm Gods and Rhulk, but it doesn't seem that the Wormd Gods, other then the Mother of them, has any knowledge of Rhulk or even the Witness. The Resonant Fury helm tells us that Xita, the nurturing worm, the mother of the Worm Gods, is taken by Rhulk, and taken to his Pyramid. The children of Xita are there, and the Witness IS mentioned, but the Worm Gods never swear to serve the Witness, they serve the Deep, as they say in BoS. Xita says in the resonant Fury Gauntlets that Rhulk is unknown to her, and consequently, the Worm Gods, so they would not know who the Witness is. the Resonant Fury Greaves state that parts of Xita are cut off, and set adrift to the Osmium Shores, showing that the larvae used by the Osmium King was hers, and the larvae used by the Worms Gods were too. But there was no interaction between the Worms Gods and Rhulk. In the Resonant Fury Plate, it says that the Witness is the one who spoke to the Osmium King, driving him mad, so we know that the larvae speak the words of the Witness, but no the Worm Gods themselves. The Witness, knowing that the Worm Gods manipulate psychically their victims, as seen in the Resonant Fury Helm. It gave them the larvae, but indirectly, manipulating the manipulators, and semi-coercing them since all they would remember is the fear of their mother being taken away. (Or would they, since they serve the Deep, where only the worthy survive?) The flavor text of each armor piece states that "(Worm God) seeks nurture, it does so through (the virtue it is)" for example: Yul yearns for nurture, it does so through honesty. The Worm Gods gained their Virtuous nature after Xita, the Nurturing Worm, was taken from them. It was a coping mechanism for the Worm Gods. The Resonant Fury Mark Explicitly states that Rhulk knows Savathun, and was priming her to be a Disciple. Savathun was the only one to hear the Witnesses' words, (As seen in the WQ campaign, and in the Resonant Fury Plate) The RFplate also mentions that Rhulk is consumed by wrath, and since he was the one in charge of making the larvae, Oryx and Xivu are consumed by wrath.(The Mark shows this) Yet Savthun was not, since she was the most cunning of them all. The Worm Gods also held to the belief of the Winnower, so they told the siblings such, and they believed. Thusly since the Gods were referring to the Winnower, this makes sense why Oryx was not a Disciple, since he spoke to the Deep. But Savathun was approached by the Witness, presumably after the Hive Gods had split, and understood what has made them (shown in the RFmark) Now this begs the question of when and how Xivu was approached, but we have had 0 talk of Xivu as the main focus of ANY lore since BoS, so we will have to wait and see.

Certain people in lore spread misinformation about it but when you ultimately think about it for a second why the hell would a worm god (which isn’t that powerful) be communing with the Darkness itself which is a neutral entity that literally fought the Gardner (the light) because it wanted to interfere with the flower game. It makes no sense and goes against why it even fought the gardner

      • Nice summary, that set is a cool read and lots of juicy info. I like how it shows their machinations, a glimpse behind the curtain to see the puppeteer working. You brought up Oryx’s differences. Besides the backstory, I feel like it explains why Oryx got the power to Take despite not being the preferred choice by the Witness. She got special training directed by the Witness, who was in physical proximity to them, whereas Oryx summoned a bodiless entity into an orges corpse who taught him the power. What do you think?
