My games in the ascendant grind (which I did last season) go one of two ways now that I am stuck between Adept 2 and 1:
- absurdly lopsided matches that I do not belong in where I waste anywhere from 6 to 16 minutes to incur a -5 loss over and over and over and over
- absurdly lopsided matches where I end up with two 1.0's on my team being expected to carry against a squad of actual players, I get absolutely wrecked and get hit with anywhere from -80 to -200 over and over and over
In both cases, PSN players who's profiles I can check are often from Asia, UK, Germany, Russia, Italy, the Middle East, all awful connections I am forced to play against due to SBMM
This system is bad, opaque, frustrating, and time wasting. It doesn't make any sense why a game where two people on the enemy team rage quit, I get +200 points for, and then a game where I single handidly bring it back from 0-2 to win with nearly a 20 kill streak in survival I get +80. It doesn't make sense how one game I get absolutely steamrolled and get a -5 point loss, and the very next game it sticks me with *the same exact teammates* (WHO WERE ALSO ITALIAN, I LIVE IN AMERICA) and after I can't carry them I get a -200 despite being the highest kill count and K/D in the lobby?
Are there any graphs that can explain why this system feels worse than that original redrix grind because I'm all ears

16 RepliesEdited by Paniks, The Scared: 4/14/2023 7:09:31 AMYou can thank all the tryhards that padded their KD for years with SBMM now proving they're hot garbage.

All this dislike over sbmm is just a skill issue, not a matchmaking issue
-
1 ReplySbmm has no place at all outside a single rotating mode of lower tier players most favored gamemodes including mayhem/momentum and scorched. Any and all playlists outside that should use pure cbmm with zero filters besides for Trials - card win based Comp - rank based

1 ReplySBMM Pros: 1) Prevents players from farming stats 2) Bungie proved that, with the current system, player "skill" closely correlates to Comp Rank Cons: 1) Confusing that SBMM is in a Ranked game mode 2) Cannot see "skill" 3) Results in uneven nunber of points won and lost - point gains are based in part on your relative "skill" For RBMM, just flip the Pros and Cons

Edited by BoyarD: 4/13/2023 6:30:33 PMLast season I was playing ascendent players when I was gold. Why is it not rank based? Only played for rose rolls, no point besides that

11 RepliesIt's bad. SBMM within Ranks. Tiers within tiers, means that everyone's rank is literally meaningless.
-
12 RepliesSBMM absolutely deserve to be in comp Also i think people don’t understand that SBMM is a broad cover and Ranked Based Matchmaking is just another form of SBMM since you are just using a different way to rank peoples skill and match them.
-
Competitive already had its own sbmm system in place: the ranking. It since you are now playing against your own skill level, the ranking means nothing. I could be a great player and never climb above 3000 because I’m not playing “3000” level players. I’m playing other 10,000 players. Stupid.
-
it’s basically exactly how the old comp was but now it’s to 10k instead of 5500.
-
1 ReplyCompetitive should've been rank based matchmaking and we told them this from the jump but why do that when you can shoehorn in your god awful skill metrics that are about as accurate as a drunk paraplegic shooting a bow from horseback?
-
I’m just gonna say - I just started a game and my rank points at the start was 5,132. Win the game, it was quite fun actually, we were down 2v3 for 2 rounds but won one. Someone on the other team dropped so it was 2v2. Like I said, we won, but my points after were 5077. So I lost points on a win. Wtf is that?
-
Look at the stats from my last comp match. As if this makes any sense. https://twitter.com/vivelalune/status/1646702405214404608?s=46&t=NasTMYPr8-GgZuZKdKzPIg

I got to the Gold 1 rank up round. Tried my -blam!- off but lost 2/3. Since then it’s been constant - lose is -100~ win is +50~. I’d love an explanation why losing is twice as bad as winning.
-
I totally agree! I’ve been having very similar issues on my end as well! I’ve been -blam!- about it non-stop to Bungie on the forums. They just don’t care! Only if Datto made a video about it and only if people stopped playing Comp in droves will Bungie do anything about it.

24 RepliesWild that y'all still don't realize Bungie has a predetermined comp rank based off your Bungie Hidden Skill rating.
-
3 RepliesI've read a lot of dumbshit on here but this takes the cake. SBMM if it belongs anywhere is comp.
-
33 RepliesThey explained why they didn't do this. To make it harder to Smurph and Tank stats and walk all over the lower brackets as many in this community still want to do.
-
How many points you gain or lose is based on your relative "skill" and match performance when compared to everyone else in the Lobby. Likewise, your "skill" rating changes in a similar manner (which is probably why your Comp rank and "skill" are always so close) If you are "supposed" to win by a large margin, you may only get +5 upon winning, but -200 for losing
-
SBMM in its current implementation throughout gaming has zero place period. Its manipulative and scummy. This hyperfocus on making games "competitive" needs to die. Look at what happened to poor Halo due to this mindset, among other things. "Competitive! Unbalanced matches!" What the hell happened to fun?
-
This is what happens when bungie listens to the casual once a week player. Just another point Bungie caters to the MINORITY and not the true dedicated player base.
-
1 ReplyPvp is pathetic in its nature.

Sbmm in comp is stupid then it's called ranked and it the gap between ranks matter in terms of points gains/reduction which is pointless because of sbmm. At least they gave us an explanation for why it's just not ranked, like in season 4-7, but they saud that's because smurfing/recovs, which is kinda stupid, because it's already sbmm. I actually had a much better time in comp this season in both connections and team balancing than before, maybe because more people playing, maybe because I mainly played solo. I remember how bad comp was before revamp, playing against the same team over and over again or against people from different continents.

You have to play extra well to climb above the rank that’s the equivalent to your hidden mmr, ranked modes in others games do not work like this.
