Osteo Striga or Thorn with necro?

I'm trying to make a poison build with necrotic grips, and ive been using thorn for ages (because it's fun as heck)... However, I've heard that OS is a better choice. I really don't like the 'delayed' feeling of OS's tracking projectiles, but maybe I'll just have to acclimate😅 Lemme know your thoughts and advice. Thanks✌️ P. S. I've also heard that glaives SLAP with necro... I love volatile rounds this season and I'm wondering if Ecliptic Distaff may be a good choice of glaive?

  • My Strand build for Warlock is a suspend build. Necrotic Grip, Osteo Striga, Judgment of Kelgorath Glaive (demo/incandescent) and Circular Logic MG (feeding frenzy/target lock). It’s brilliant and on my Warlock if you want to look.

        • For PvE, Osteo + Necrotic grips and either devour or the shackle grenade + consume aspect on broodweaver are the two best non-solar warlock builds in the game right now. Striga + Grips has absolutely broken add clear potential. You also never have to reload and will probably consistently sit at 2x - 4x mag size with the overflow. I used the devour build in my trio root run a couple weeks ago. Then for bosses I had Striga and grips for pre damage and a Starfire damage build for hotswapping. It’s absurd how strong this combo is. There’s quite literally no justification for Thorn over Osteo in PvE. Ever. For PvP, Thorn might be the better pick. Osteo’s projectile travel time can often make the difference between you winning or losing a gunfight. Thorn is hitscan so this is not a concern. Plus 140s will always be solid PvP picks, especially in 3v3.

          • I started the season with a little over 2k kills on my Osteo. I'm currently at 20,517. I took the Necro's off just long enough to mess with Swarmers for a couple days and went right back to the Necro's.

I wouldn't recommend Thorn because Necrotic will only proc on kills with the gun, and kills with that poison don't spawn the Orbs. Not only that, but I personally have a hard time using Thorn because half the time, the sights blend in with the scenery, and the other half I'm poisoning targets but not damaging them with the bullet. Thorn is buggy, and while they do synergize, they also work against each other, especially if you're trying to use the Kinetic Surge mods and they keep dying to Necrotic poison, which I don't think procs melee orb generators.

                  • Osteo is definitely a leg above Thorn, but say handcannons next season become anti-barrier or so, go right ahead. Thorn isn’t a bad choice in any shape or form.

Pve definitely go osteo, for pvp thorn is better. Touch of malice also works with necrotic by the way since its also a weapon of sorrow, I don’t have it so I guess it sucks in both pve and pvp since no one uses touch of malice. I cant wait to see necrochasm come back, thats also another weapon of sorrow and will pair perfectly with thrall explosions and poison

I use Osteo and Eclipitic, it works well for overload/unstop missions. I pity the fool enemy that has a void overshield, really handy in BG's to pop the shield then spray them with the poison to suspend packs of taken. I would love to use thorn but HC are really in a bad spot, and for extra bonus if you have a heavy weapon that has Repulsor Brace and Destabilizing Rounds e.g. crafted Regnant overshields for days.

Striga itself will make it so that the poison spreads from the primary target on rapit crits or when the primary target dies. Necrotic grips will add the effect that whenever any poisoned target dies, they will spread the poison. However, I find this is rarely worth the exotic slot as the strige poison is nice but has very limited range. Youtubers will always show a usecase where the build is "op", showing (and all of them) one or 2 different lost sector scenarios where it is good, but in the majority of scenarios, Necrotics will be barely noticeable, even less so in scenarios with a team.
I've also heard that glaives SLAP with necro
Imo one of the following holds: You either get killed by the sheer difficulty level when you engage melee with a glaive for too long, in which case you don't want to be inside a group of adds (and the poison won't be killing much then anyway. Or the glaive itself just destroys the adds and there is no need for poison. I find Karnstein's to be the wiser choice almost every time.
I love volatile rounds this season and I'm wondering if Ecliptic Distaff may be a good choice of glaive
I would likely not play it over enigma because of the lower shield duration and I don't see it working together very well with volatile rounds as only the projectile wil trigger that. I rather have something fast firing like an SMG make multiple targets volatile quickly and then chainexplode them. But hey, why don't you just go and try things out for their viability? Don't let some internet people hold you back.

Osteo is way better than Thorn in pve.Osteo has a faster kill rate higher base poison like 50% stronger that gets about a 5% damage boost every tick of poison unlike Thorn which has static poison damage has an aoe and can deal with majors and champions pretty quickly. Alongside this Osteo basically frees up your armor exotic since while it does make Osteo's poison better with how insane Osteo is you don't really need it unlike Thorn which I'm sorry but it's below average without it. Edit: Also almost every season gives us an smg champion mod but hc's are only available every other season.

                        • I used Thorn for ages with the Necros, however I switched to Osteo Striga when Strand dropped. Osteo Striga + Necrotic Grips is a hoot! It's much better than Thorn IMHO, especially if you've unlocked the catalyst. 😁

                          • https://dim.gg/a4cv5bq/Strike This has been my pve build if you want to take a look. You are consuming your grapple grenade, throw your melee dart at and kill an easy enemy that will then explode and tangle enemies. Poison and strand both do damage over time hitting all tangled enemies. Get grenade back, tangle or consume according to the buff… and repeat. Fun build.
