The Akelous boss fight has become incredibly tedious, now that we no longer have solo operative and weakened clear. Any chance we can simply cut his health in half so the fight can be completed in 3-5 phases?

Taking a lot of dmg phases is fine, imo it's everything in-between. It's just not a fun encounter. Very tedious. Just running in circles shooting the same 20 buttons over and over and over again. Then heavy ammo finder mods stop working, even though you have THREE heavy finders equipped. Meanwhile green bricks are raining outta vex asses left and right! Aggh....I gotta go sit down

4 RepliesLiterally took me 5 phases today for guardian rank and I was not sweating, missed some shots. It's easy if you have experience in the game. Why casual players like to complain about content they don't understand? Just don't do a solo run if you can't make a couple of google searches on how to damage a boss
-
3 RepliesHonestly only thing that I wish they'd change about that encounter; Make boss immune to knockback. It's annoying af when I use [armory]Retrofit[/armory], and boss gets pushed to other end of map, leaving effective damage range.

7 RepliesI see two solutions to this: 1. Scale its health to fireteam size. But apparently this is not a good way to do it because the pro gamers in this thread say fireteams would be too easy. 2. Health gates. What I mean by this is, once you bring its shield down the damage phase lasts until you deal a certain amount of damage (let's say 25%). This prevents solos from going 6+ phases and fireteams can no longer one phase the boss. Everyone will be on even ground, and now a fireteam just makes it faster, not easier. Because apparently it was too easy before.

Edited by waterpolo1: 4/14/2023 11:43:36 AMAfter completing this solo I'd say it's this was not bad at all. Took me 2:45 hours and 3 Death (all stupid and avoidable). Died once at Ascent Encounter because i jumped mess up a jump. Second death came in the last room in the descent to final encounter from the electric current. Third came in the way of ninja supplicants. First Boss took me 6 phases and the Final Boss took my 8 Phases. Played it safe. This was the first dungeon I did solo and I honestly enjoyed the journey. After 31 sherpas I knew this dungeon inside and out. This was a refreshing way to do something I've done to death. RANK 11 BABY! I am going to try this the solo flawless challenge next. And no, still do not agree that bosses health or add health should be scaled down for solos. Dungeons are not 3 player activities, they are not meant to be done solo. This challenge would be a walk in a quick 30 min walk in the park if the health of the enemies was lowered. Defeating the point of it altogether.

24 RepliesDungeons need health scaling. There's no reason bosses should be so tedious to fight

Yeah, when re-running this for the rank 11, I really felt like a buffoon 9 phasing the boss due to not knowing what’s meta for it after the linear nerf. I can confirm though, grand overture ain’t it, lol. (Thunder lord then succession when the boss got far away worked fine when I switched to them 10 minutes into the fight.) Endurance fight is fine, but man, soloing that for the first time and dying multiple times to getting flung off the map after 5 damage phases, or just the boss choosing to do a teleport insta kill on top of me got to be a bit frustrating.

Bungie is allowed to play with ideas, the more phases you do the more intense and harder it gets. The more you have to play your life because of how punishing one death is. But hey be lazy and ask for less health so the whole point is defeated XD

If you shoot him with your bullets you can cut his health in half yourself.

11 RepliesIt takes 4 phases, I don't think that unreasonable given you're doing it SOLO. you really need to grasp the concept of solo play. It's not about one phasing everything, it's about doing it WITHOUT help from team mates. This mean LESS damage per phase. If you wanna one phase crap go play strikes.
-
Bungie shouldn’t change this dungeon. I enjoyed the solo flawless. The emblem shouldn’t be given to the people that moan

Guardian, Archon Of LightArchon Priest Of House Light - old
We hear you So we are changing the fight to give you 4 phases to beat him or wipe -
12 RepliesEdited by Gibbon, the Ape Defector: 4/12/2023 12:36:17 PMAkelous (and Persys) has so much health compared to other bosses in the game because getting to damage phase is comparatively very easy. It gets insanely quick when you have practice with nodes. So bring the right guns and don't go for the fewest number of phases, just shave off time in the circuit gaps in between.

6 RepliesAlso there are just a lot of supers you can’t really use on him because he just flies off into a parallel universe if you dare hit him with one

3 RepliesI soloed it twice and both times took over 10 phases, even after changing my loadout. Bungie shoul take notes from From Software how to make difficulty. It's just tedious to do the same encounter 40 minutes then fall asleep and run into some physics trap pit or get thrown off the map. Not difficult, just tedious.

you still have void grenades to weaken, no excuses, lol

Edited by Darth45789: 4/12/2023 9:33:48 PMIt takes 3 to 5 phases max already. What are you using for damage and what class?

2 RepliesEdited by Hawpy: 4/11/2023 11:58:45 PMMuch of this stems from the boss being a Wyvern. It's aggressive and does a ton of damage, so you have to actively move away from it, even with the safety of a Well. It's crit spot is nigh on impossible to reliably hit, so precision damage is largely off the table. The only saving grace is that Wyverns take massively increased damage from abilities, which is why Starfire Protocol Fusion spam is so effective, but for most people this isn't going to be the bulk of their damage output. On the other side, assuming this point is only in relation to soloing the boss, a solo Dungeon is just as much a test of endurance as it is execution. I remember barely missing out on a 4-phase kill on Kell Echo back in Season 11 and being terrified of making a mistake in phase 5. We have lost out on Solo Operative and Weakened Clear, which are likely to return at some point, but we have reliable heavy ammo (which I always feel is the biggest block in that fight) through Bricks from Beyond and Surge mods that make extra damage stacking easier than before. Edit: I'm an idiot, ignore the first half.

1 ReplyDungeons bosses should scale by fireteam size (66% health reduction when solo, 33% when duo). Doing 5+ phases when solo is just dumb.
-
8 RepliesLmao my best was like 1 million damage in a phase. 4 phases to get him to 50%. Took like 20 minutes. I just gave up and went back to orbit 🤣 Came to forums only to be told “I diD it LasT SeAsoN. skiLL iSsUe” like bruh last season you was doing 75% more damage with weakened clear, high energy fire and solo operative 🤣
-
The reason why it takes so long as a solo is because the time you get for damage is determined by how long it takes you to break all his crit spots. I think the fastest I've seen it done solo was with a trace rifle with OFA active. If Bungie made the requirements for getting a longer damage phase a bit more forgiving that'd have the boss fall in line with the 4 or so phases it takes to solo Persys.

2 RepliesEdited by Inkredible Bulk: 4/11/2023 9:38:12 PMIt IS tedious, you're right! There's nothing interesting there, just don't fall off and follow the stupid cables as they tuck in and hide in scenery ugh. We had a weird glitch the other night where he would shift to one side off the runway during dps randomly and sail off and back again in a curve. Did NOT help the aim!

Completed solo you mean, right?

5 RepliesWeakened Clear was only a 15% debuff, but Anarchy got a 20% buff. Anarchy also got a 10% buff too not too long ago. Anarchy is sitting at 92.4% of what it was when it was complete meta and got nerfed. Here's where things get interesting. Anarchy was never nerfed for Champions and mini bosses. So Anarchy only has had buffs vs champs and mini bosses since it was created. Anarchy is currently doing 130% it's launch damage vs champs and mini bosses and 92.4% damage vs big bosses. If you can't kill the boss easily with Anarchy and a sniper/shotgun, that's a problem. Literally for Calus I shot two Anarchys, hid. Shot two. Hid. Over and over till he died and I said aloud, "What a ridiculously easy boss". Never died or even was close to it. You can literally spend all your time dodging -blam!- while Anarchy does all the work. Don't have to expose yourself for dealing damage. Yeah Solo Operative is gone but oh well. Youll be missing out on 10% damage overall which is nothing.

13 RepliesThat fight is almost braindead. Complete 4 relays and damage phase starts? Literally one of the dumbest things to complain about, currently.
