Saw a leak that Starfire was going to be nerfed to where it produces a grenade after 8 seconds of tick damage instead of 2.
That means you get 1 grenade when using anarchy and 0 grenades when using witherhoard.
I think it's a bad idea for 4 reasons.
1. That would demote Starfire builds to add clear, which we don't need because sunbracers already exists and does add clear way better. It would literally go back to the vault.
2. There is a built in limiter for DPS builds because only 1 warlock in a fireteam can run witherhoard + rockets. The other combo, anarchy with demo GL, is high end, but not top tier damage except in Vow due to the Into The Light raid mod.
3. It would reduce raid boss warlocks back to lunafaction + well, and we were stuck in that combo for years.
4. There is no alternative build that deals that much damage while also having multiple ways to build into it (witherhoard or anarchy).
Bonus: It never even got an ornament so no warlock has ever looked good wearing it. We sacrificed drip for the only good DPS build we've ever had.
It is literally the most fun I've had on a warlock since I started playing this franchise. It is also the only reason we have to run non blinding nade special ammo GLs. There's nothing wrong with the build, it's just another suggestion from Twitter that is being given more credence than it should.
The people who want this don't play warlock, don't represent warlocks, and don't represent the player base. They are businesses trying to pad their earnings, and aren't in the same category as players.
We both know you're not going to give us a DPS build worth a crap to replace this, because we haven't had a DPS build since Chaos Reach got nerfed (and it wasn't top tier anyway). All you're doing is making well warlocks useless outside of having a well.
It was really nice being able to have a well and also not be 100s of thousands of damage behind everybody every single damage phase. This sucks.
Suggested nerf instead.
If you wanted to nerf it in a way that makes sense, make it so it doesn't give you a free rift on a grenade kill. Make it so it increases rift recharge rates instead, but tune it so that 2 grenade kills don't give you a full rift (maybe like 50% of one).
That breaks the "infinite grenades and rifts" part that is the actually broken part of that build, letting warlocks keep our DPS, while forcing us to use sunbracers for add clear. Now we have a reason to run both instead of just one, and we don't have to go back to Lunafaction boots. I don't speak for every warlock, but I'd be willing to bet most of us don't want to.

A direct impact from Witherhoard ticks for 9 seconds. You’d get back a grenade.

13 RepliesShort of just removing free grenades from damaging opponents, there is no real nerf that would kill this build. Even with your suggested nerf, you'd still get a free rift in no time whatsoever, especially if you can get multikills off a single greande. Paired with the mods and Fragments, having a rift up at all times is a guarantee. There is "leak" with upcoming nerfs that suggests Bungie is drastically reducing the amount of grenade energy you get from dealing damage and even though that may cut your DPS, that's what? 1-2 less grandes while you're also spamming Witherhoard and rockets in your Well during a boss phase. (Now, because this is a Bungie forum post, I gotta throw some Shade lol) Meanwhile other classes can just pick up a few orbs and have their roaming super do almost 1.2 million damage just by spamming R1. Or other classes can solo dungeon boss' by bonking a hammer off their noggin.

Whether you like it or not, It’s gonna happen. From a grenade every 2 seconds, to a grenade every 8 seconds standing in an empowering rift or well. Should have made it every 5 seconds imo. Sunbracers are just as strong. Getting infinite grenades for 5 seconds is difficult in harder content because the warlock’s solar charged melee is weak as hell.

Yeah rift is cool when your in danger but thats about it, nerf it all they want i dont even use it and i main warlock, granted am not into the most meta op builds on youtube thank god.

It deserves the nerf it is getting. It will still be one of the best exotics in the game, just not the best. The nerf you’re suggesting does not work. Without an exotic, it is easy to get your rift back before the first one runs out. Especially on solar.

21 RepliesOh no. The ONLY build warlocks use gets nerfed. Easiest fix would be that it ONLY works for empower rift and not well.
