I think it's safe to say after the Synthoceps/Glaive nerf that Titans are not designed to be the melee class, and as we all know Warlocks of any subclass can be more tanky than any Titan subclass.
Not to mention all the nerfs to Titan melees killing their potential as the Melee class and leading to Hunters actually having not only more melee versatility but also having the ability to immediately get back their melee. Something Titan used to have but was nerfed, again cementing Titans as the do nothing class. Because of this nerf we'll never again see the one and only heavy glaive in end game content.
What is a Titan?
A Titan is there... Just there...
Bungie asked about a year ago why Titans are the least played class overall, I think we know why.

Melee in destiny is just a joke it doesn’t really matter how much damage one does, there is little base survivability in endgame content unless you focus on other non melee builds like infinite suspend or grapple. With the nurf to shoulder charge and the addition of tormentors (an enemy which for the first third part of its health bar is almost completely immune to melee), the titan class is likely to lose a large portion of its mains. And just for the record as a titan main I’m with OP on this one, the game just wasn’t designed for melee. If you try to do a melee centric build you’ll die faster and more frequently than the flash could count.

32 RepliesSynthos are fine and it wasn't a syntho nerf but a syntho glaive nerf. You can still run around punching everything to death. And really you think warlocks don't get the short end of the stick compared to titans? Biased my guy. When stasis came out warlocks got nerfed after 5 days hunters didn't really get touched until a year. Nova warp got nerfed into the ground. Warlocks are the only class that got their ohk ability taken away. Geomags nerfed into obscurity. Warlocks are definitely not the spoiled children here. You also don't see many warlock nerfs these days because they don't have any crazy good exotics or abilities anymore.

Synthoceps wasn't nerfed. They fixed the bugged interactions with glaives & synthoceps.

Dont know why some think there are limiting roles like a typical mmo in destiny, there isnt. Roles are more defined by mods, gear and weapon loadout with any of the 3 main classes capable of filling. People get drawn into thinking hunters are or should be the fastest just because mobility is linked to their class ability even though mobility has nothing to do with speed and is a mere agility stat, same as why some think titans are the tanks due to the resilience stat and barricades, any class can run full res I often do. While Warlocks get lumped in the support class slot due to rifts. While sure there are some abilities that lean into set roles, all classes can be used for tank, support and damage

4 RepliesVpid titan is the most tanky class in the game after that you have an easy woven mail for strand an aspect in arc that give you damage reduction an exotic helmet on solar that made you almost unkillable you juste have stasis that dont have a tanky option. For melee titan have more option than any class for there melee.

the answer is simple
Bungie doesn't even know
Don't care, my titan's name is punchy mcpunch face. And no matter who you are, no matter where you are. He will one punch you into orbit.

12 RepliesTitans are Destiny’s version of tanks… While a majority of us want Destiny to lean into the 3 major roles (tank, healer, and DPS), Destiny literally isn’t designed for it.

10 RepliesI mean hunters are not the mobility class since they are the slowest and have the lowest jump.

Strand titan, void titan and stasis titan are all very good tanks. Strand titan is especially strong in the tank roll. Glaives no longer being able to hit 600%+ damage buffs doesn’t magically mean titans aren’t the melee class. Synthocepts did not receive a nerf to their melee damage increase. Titan remains the best class to build into your melee.

2 RepliesWhat you’re saying makes sense. We already know there aren’t any titan main developers and the warlock and hunter developers get jealous of anything an intern decides to throw our way.
-
Hunters aren’t the fastest
-
You have a little hammer that you can throw FOREVER. How is that not getting your melee back? Also, still works with Synthoceps.

Honestly, neither titan or hunter really have a defined class at this point. Warlock is well rounded in just about everything. Hunter had invis heavily nerfed (understandably so but I'm still a bit salty about that one since I've been mostly a void hunter since I started). Played titan for maybe fifty hours later in WQ, honestly I got bored. The classes need better defining characteristics rather than just exotics to define them. Maybe a slight run speed boost on hunters, more melee damage on titan (not ohko but enough to be more forgiving in a cqb engagement) and built-in fastball on warlock? IDK

2 RepliesBecause there are no tanks in this game because there aren't classic mmorpg roles in this game.
-
3 RepliesTitans are still the tankiest by a lot.
-
15 RepliesTitans died, stop playing them, play warlock instead, way better than crytans and weakters in pve.

Guardian, Archon Of LightArchon Priest Of House Light - old
Titans are the mobile class, and Hunters are the melee tanks -
i like how for warlocks u just let other things play the game for u (arc buddy, void buddy, strand babies, stasis buddy)

We look the best. But getting killed full health by a whimpy Hunter is just wrong. Bring back the OHK shoulder charge so we can be real Titans.

As a warlock main I totally get you pain, I personally think the nerf was dumb. Bungie wants to create class niche but then nerfs them to the ground the second they become viable. They rather everyone stays in the back and toss grenades or pop supers. I thought it was cool titans were able to go into the front lines and be an actual melee character while I stay in the back either providing heals or helping deal a ton of damage. It felt like overwatch in a sense and thats actually a good thing. I don’t understand why bungie would even think to nerf synthoceps when titans could still very easily get killed in high end content. It was a high skill and high reward build.

2 RepliesWhat you say is true in a lot of regards, however, I recommend you equip strand, throw on some synthoceps and a recuperation mod and you have a VERY tanky high damage melee class. You have to play very aggressive to get it working but it's the most fun I've had in this game as someone who likes to punch -blam!-. Alternatively throw on abeyant leap and lament and laugh at the master glassway boss and such.
