Ker-nal. It's the same for lieutenant. Americans pronounce it lu-ten-ant, while British people pronounce it lef-ten-ant. Confusing I know.
-
kernel, its the only correct pronunciation
-
It's pronounced ker-nal, col-oh-nal is a french ice-cream dessert, with sherbet and vodka in it.
-
Like in "Linux kernel".

-
Ker-nal as in popcorn KERNAL
-
[kur-nl] according to the dictionary with the emphasis on the Kur. If you pronounce it as it is spelled, you are saying the wrong word. Colonial is not the same as Colonel
-
kernel, but I love how Kat pronounces it :)
Posted by: RECON828
Posted by: LeZoSo It's Ker-Nal Anything else is wrong Unless it's like Kuh-Nul if you've got like a british accent or something :P
I'm from england and I honestly can't think of one place in the UK that is home to an accent where someone would pronounce it "Kuh-nul". I personally pronounce it Curnul or Curnel. BTW, there's no such thing as a "British accent"
A few of the counci estates up here in the grim NW of England might say it as 'kuh-nul'. I guess it's easy for those of us for whom english is our first (and only language), to overlook the fact that the spelling and the sound do not even look remotely similar. For people learning english as a 2nd (or 3rd etc) language, pronouncing a fair chunk of english words might be a real struggle - it would be as if yo were learning to say one language and read another at times. As to the question of how we conquered an empire - we went to China and they gave us our secret weapon. Tea, old chap, that is how we did it!
