Constant Contacting Destiny 2 Servers

Hi everyone! So I am having a very weird issue. I play Destiny 2 on Steam and no matter what I do, I have Contacting Destiny 2 Servers pop up and the game freezes up for a couple of seconds anytime I swap armor, weapons, emblems, shaders, ornaments, or basically anything else in my inventory. Since this has started I have tried 3 different high speed routers and had my modem replaced twice. I have even had my ISP come out and they claim to see no issues on their end. I have a 1gig internet connection through Spectrum and I never have issues on other games. I have tried Port Forwarding and nothing changes. Here's where it gets weird. If I get on a VPN, It all stops immediately. I can play for hours and all weekend without ever seeing a single piece of lag or Contacting Destiny 2 Servers popup while on the VPN. However, along with a VPN comes higher ping and slower speeds than I am supposed to be getting. As soon as I disable the VPN, I go right back to all the issues I listed above. This is really frustrating. My first thought is my ISP may be throttling me or something, but why would I not have issues on any other games or streaming apps? Also when I do speed tests, my ping and download/upload speeds are exactly what I pay for. I am at a loss. If anyone else has had this issue or has insight on how to fix this, please help me!

    • Came here to see if anyone is having connection issues today. I’m getting the same “Contacting…” messages usually ending in Weasel errors. I’m on PS4, wired. Friday 3/31 830-930a PST, for context.

    • Have the same issue, haven't ever tried using a VPN so can't attest to that. Will add, have seen it also when fast traveling or going from one area planetside to another, or entering/leaving a lost sector, on occasion as well. But I've tested my ping/ packet loss/ speed/ etc to servers in Seattle when this is happening, and not seen any difference from then to when it is not happening. No packet loss, ping and speed remain consistent with low jitter. Been happening for around a year for me, and nothing I've done has helped.

      • It's been getting worse for two seasons prior to lightfall. The code is literally falling apart.

      • Maintenance and servers brought offline multiple times a week is a regular thing and they still can't get it stable sad

        • Same issue as well. Got one weasel, 2 plums and 1 flat out crash to desktop with a pop up from windows saying battleeye crashed. (All while running nightfalls).

        • Same issue here, trying to play on GeForceNow. Get to login screen. Contact contact contact. Fail with some message about BattleEye.

        • Same issue here . Battle eye problem, and contacting Destiny 2 servers . Michigan , also friends in Halifax Nova Scotia reporting the same .

            Every new expansion makes the game too big. The servers cannot take the extra load imo. Add players from all over the country, unwired wifi connections, background server fixes, hotfixes, old hardware servers, you name it. This game needs to end. Make a new destiny 3 with new tech engine. But honestly, for me turning off hdr helps make the game sort of playable. Also hard wire straight to the modem.

            • Same . Happened during a comp match got kicked out of game and lost the match . Coulda used the 1/4 of super energy i had before getting kicked

            • I am having the same issue, cant even start up the game because of BattleEye (error code plum), which is weird since I never had this before and don't use any software that can cause this..

              • I'm on the Eastern coast of of the USA, Virginia and I have the Battle Eye chicken code as well. So Destiny 2 is on high alert with the submarine sirens from the "Hunt for Red October" going off inside the destiny 2 HQ and they are scrambling I bet? or there is elevator music and a bunch of fat guys eating a subway sandwich just staring at our comments laughing at our disgust because grown men cant play a game. conflicted here psychologically. what are the polls of whats happening behind the curtains at Bungie?

              • Yeah, I am getting a Chicken code. Not sure if my internet is an issue, the servers are or if the Witness is calling me one. Still kind of up in the air.

                • I just logged on and went to the tower. Got contacting servers and then got a plum error code? My friends are currently getting cloudberry and weasel. It said something about battleye. I'm just not gonna get on until this is resolved. Last thing I need is my account getting deleted cause of error codes flying left and right. Please fix this.

                • There seems to be a general problem here right now, local connections as well as connections from multiple NVIDIA GeForce Now datacenters are also affected, in the European region.

                • I had issues the past few days in Iron Banner. I've finished a match and was booted - couldn't even send commendations to other players. I've received different error codes all pointing to networking, but my network is stable and fast. Now I cannot even log in and get all sorts of errors like "chicken" and "plum". And there is nothing installed that messes with the network on my end.

                  • Im a steam player too and have this Issue as well (not using vpn) just on other "randomd" spots. Eg. When im for a longer time (~10mins) at tower (at vault most often) it starts and ends alway with a reconnecting. Another thing that happens often since Lightfall release is a centerpete error at startup (around every 5th time) but after that error login and playing works normal. TBH as European i think the Cause has something to do with the Connection from NA to EU just dont know if its Bungie or if its Steam OR if it is cause Bungie and steam dont share information often :D
