Vexcalibur Legendary Mission

How do I phrase this... Doing that mission on legendary was, perhaps, the most miserable experience I've endured since Master Mode Vox Obscura. I could argue that it was stupidly overtuned, that it's too damn hard, that it's going to gatekeep too many people, and while all of that may hold some level of truth, I also don't think a damn thing should be changed. Allow me to explain. I never got the chance to play D1, for reasons that I won't get into. Streamers and vets and "toxic elites" have long waxed poetic about how much more difficult things like nightfalls and hard mode raids and things were, however clouded by roseate retrospection such reminiscing may be. The point was, the game was harder in the past, and it made completing certain things feel like more of an achievement. If anyone has ever played a Soulslike game, you'd understand the hedonic rush from finally toppling a boss so insanely difficult 90% of players never even get there, let alone beat it. The Vexcalibur Mission (I duo'd it. Couldn't find a third on LFG) was a brutal, exhausting, multi-hour slog. I'll admit, getting repeatedly dunked on by snipers and wyverns, slung across the map bc the physics engine is a piece of crap, and having to restart 9 times because Bungie disabled Join-in-Progress and my teammate kept getting disconnected, it was all a recipe for some serious gamer rage. Don't get me wrong. That mission really, really pissed me off before the end of it. I genuinely thought on more than one occasion that it was just too damn difficult. Yet... When Brakion finally toppled into a heap of scrap metal, and my teammie and I were teabagging and taco dropping Asher Mir's trophy arm, there was a sense of achievement there. Genuinely, it felt like a greater triumph than solo-flawlessing every legend batleground last season. It felt better than soloing my first dungeon. The level of difficulty, the unrelentling punishment for the smallest of mistakes, the grind and slog and all of it made the final moment so much better. It felt triumphant. Yes, the game has gotten brutally difficult. Yes, the "toxic elites", streamers, and OGs petitioned relentlessly for this. Yes, a lot of casuals and noobs are upset about these changes. Yes, I kind of do miss how easy things were last season. I also wouldn't go back to the way things were. The difficulty of completing the challenge makes the completiong of it so much more rewarding. I hate that -blam!- mission, but dammit, I think I love it too.

  • Oh no, the hard mode of the exotic mission is… hard?

  • Crazy thing -if you want the full glaive unlocked you have to do it again - It gets a lot easier with repetition. The more you do it, the more you understand the mechanics, spatial awareness, enemy density, spawn location and strategy. I think the mission is slightly overtuned for the average gamer for what is supposed to be done at legendary - but i agree it's fun and rewarding.

    • legend Lost Sector and legend Nightfall can take time, but it can be beaten. Legend Avalon on the other hand, who ever test run it. It was done by streamers and elitist with game breaking build that see zero issues. If Legendary Avalon was tested by an average player or any Bungie Dev team that are mid level players would’ve see any issues and problems and start reworking by balancing and add adjustments to make this legendary exotic quest less time consuming and painfully difficult. And make it manageable to beat for anyone(like legendary exotic quest from Season of Seraph), with the right build and strategy. If Bungie doesn’t add any adjustments for future seasons. I hope this vaulted once The Final Shade comes out. Because this is by fair the only endgame content I do not enjoy (and I even harmed myself) and hope Bungie at least listens to casual to normal players and not the sweaty and streamer-worshiping elitist.
