I'm a new player, so the *only* way for me to get that many exotic weapons is grinding Exotic Ciphers for, quite literally, several months, if not an entire year.
This one requirement is stopping my guardian rank progression completely dead in its tracks :(
Please lower this requirement to a less ridiculous number.

I agree 100%! Even if you have all the raid and dungeon drops, you would have had to have almost every exotic from every expansion. Xur? will only give 1 per week too with. Xenology… lot of quests are now gone as well
-
1 ReplyWhilst I agree to an extent, its not supposed to be easy for everyone. I think 85 is too steep to reach Rank 9 though, 85 should be required for 11 or at least 10, if it remains to reach Rank 9 I think it should be reduced to 75.
-
I have to agree that 85 is a lot. I’ve been playing for 2 years, not really caring about getting all exotics. Now I have to find 20+ if I want to progress. Kind of sucks
-
I agree, it doesn't seem to be in line with the other requirements. The other stuff is all something you can actually achieve regardless if you have played for years or not. The other rank 9 requirements are already quite steep with the raid completions and such, but this one does not seem to be at the same level, and they even downgraded the lost sector solo requirement to legend from master. Some of the exotic drops are also time gated, so you can try them only once per rotation, it makes this really slow compared to the other things which you can actually achieve by just playing.
-
I thought the same then I realized I only need 7 more. My main annoyance with Rank 9 is the requirement for the Grasp of Avarice dlc purchase.
-
I say good. I don’t think it will last, but there should be a spot where a new player shouldn’t be able to get to the same rank as somebody who played the red war, curse of Osiris, Warmind, forsaken, season of the forge, season of the drifter, season of opulence, ShadowKeep, season of undying, season of Dawn, season of the worthy, season of arrivals, witnessed the traveler being healed, played beyond light, season of the hunt, season of the chosen, season of the splicer, season of the lost, Witch Queen, season of the risen, season of the haunted, season of the plunder, season of the seraph, Lightfall, beat the 30th anniversary Dungeon on regular and master, best all raids on regular and master, has beaten every GM Nightfall, has soloed every lost sector on Master, has beaten every exotic mission on every difficulty, has beat campaign missions on master, has collected every lore page and collectible in the game, has every seal and title, has every exotic in the game, etc. I have not done all those things. I’ve done most of them. And that may mean you can get to a higher guardian rank than me. That’s fine. I opted out of Trials of the Nine, master raids, and a few other things. So I shouldn’t never be able to have the highest guardian rank either. But if you’re raiding and doing master and GM content eventually you should surpass me. Basically I think the whole system should be reworked to have a more digestible representation of Triumph score, badges, seals, collection, etc.

Guardian ranks is pointless and stupid, a system can't be taken seriously that requires commendations to advance. You guys get so worked up over the dumbest most meaningless things. Just play the game.
-
1 ReplyNew players when they can’t be max level immediately
-
2 RepliesRanks and Commendations are both ridiculous. I've played the game now for 7,400 hours. I'm "Rank 6". And - no offence to you intended - you're new and near instantly you're far ahead in supposed rank. It's a bad, bad system of no meaning.
-
I had a conversation with someone about this last night. Truthfully, I wouldn't be surprised if Bungie walks this one back, at least a little bit, since it ham-strings new players regardless of their skill. It certainly wouldn't be the first time they've made a course-correction on a requirement like that.
-
100% agreed I dont care about guardian rank challenges since i cant get 85 exotics in this season anyways. This requirement makes the whole feature useless for many people. And its dumb that you got only one chance to drop dungeon exotics per week for each charakter. Atleast raise the drop chance or make them farmable.
-
Not alot of us are gonna get past 7 (or 8 cant remember) because we don't do raids so be happy your that high.
-
It’s not too high and I’m reading your comments, be happy your that high up already. Skill has nothing to do with the little investment into the game you’ve done so far. I’ve been playing since day1 and I’m only a 7. The ranks reset seasonally so don’t complain n keep pushing.
-
1 ReplyYou’re new…. You should have to work for a rank higher than 7. Rank 6 is labelled “veteran” for a reason
-
3 RepliesDo you not understand how Guardian ranks work? You are on 9 and 6 is labeled Veteran. It’s fine where it is.
-
Grind=content
-
You’re literally a new player 😂 pretty self explanatory to me and what’s the point in grinding it anyways for it to reset every season? I’m almost rank 8 and have spent zero time going out of my way to get it. The whole system is a joke.
-
Yeah, they either need to drop that to like 55-60 or increase the amount of exotic cipher quests you can get from Xur each week. I will say though that guardian rank above 7 is really arbitrary and doesn’t mean a whole lot. 7 just shows you play the game and know kinda what you’re doing. As a player that’s played consistently for years, this was already completed for me. I think I’ve only purchased 1 thing from the exotic kiosk (Tarrabah was my bane…) This is the first season of Guardian ranks. They’re bound to adjust stuff going forward. They already did for master lost sectors…

the *only* way for me to get that many exotic weapons is grinding Exotic Ciphers for, quite literally, several months, if not an entire year.
There's also Xur, lost sectors, & every other endgame activity that drops exotics or has exotic rewards tied to them.
-
2 RepliesWait so you say you’re a new player. Then in a comment below you say you’re a long time player? You have 1 title and barely anything in your collections. So not everyone is going to be rank 11 or 10 or 9. It’s for the dedicated players who have invested into the game. To be fair you don’t even have to do a lot because the challenge’s are super easy. My question is, if you claim to have played this game since day 1. Why don’t you have that many exotics? I missed about 2-3 years of Destiny 2 and I’m way above that.

I'm a new player, so the *only* way for me to get that many exotic weapons is grinding Exotic Ciphers for, quite literally, several months, if not an entire year. This one requirement is stopping my guardian rank progression completely dead in its tracks :( Please lower this requirement to a less ridiculous number.
If you’re a new player then why would you assume that you’re meant to immediately be able to advance that far into the ranking system? It’s suppose to illustrate time investment, dedication, and general ability in a majority of the content that the game has to offer. New players or extremely casual players aren’t really meant or even expected to advance beyond a certain point. Hence why requirements like collecting 85 exotic weapons, collecting 30 exotic armour pieces, Masterworking 25 exotics weapons via catalysts, claiming 7 titles including getting/guilding Conquerer, completing every single raid/dungeon, and soloing the latest dungeon all exist. Bungie doesn’t expect players to pick up the game snd then immediately reach the highest Guardian Ranks, that would defeat the entire purpose.
-
3 RepliesMajority of people who play this game are completely locked out from going past rank 8, like seriously how many people actually have 85 out of 94 exotic weapons in the entire game, alot less that have id say.
-
2 RepliesIt's meant for the long time players....
-
4 RepliesDo content that drops exotics, like master NFs. If you aren’t powerful enough to do that yet, then you’re trying to progress too fast. That’s what I have learned, the hard way, in my 5 years of D2
