*Spoilers in post
The witch queen expansion had an excellent story, but when light fall dropped. It was made pretty clear you guys rushed to make light fall given all the reused assets and the abysmal campaign story. Like seriously, wtf is the veil? Why is the late commander and Ikora both say the traveler is gone when we can clearly see it from the helm? Now, finishing the recent seasonal story mission “Jailbreak,” the death flag was blatant so another emotionless story death. Let me guess, at some point in near future, Amanda returns as a guardian. All this begs the question in the title, “what happened to the writing team who wrote the witch queen?” I love destiny, but the recent poor quality of the campaign, the season of defiance, not mentioning the RoN contest mode, and the broken Immortal SMG in Crucible all left me and many others with a bad taste in our mouth. Bungie, please prioritize quality and not just quantity.

Mass stroke. Very sad. Had to have the plot for lightfail written by a kindergartener that was wandering by that day after getting them high with sugar and caffeine.

You’re comparing the ending of a sub-story that was started 6 years ago to the very seedlings of a new sub-story that started just now. Don’t compare apples to oranges. We were told about Savathûn back when D2 started. We’ve JUST been told about the Witness and ESPECIALLY The Veil just last season and last expansion.

They were transferred. To what? Don't know.

Edited by kellygreen45: 3/23/2023 11:45:40 AMYou do realize that you’re comparing apples to oranges right? Witch Queen was the climax to a story that was 6 years in the making. It ended in her death and the end of her reign as a Hive god. Lightfall is basically introducing us to who the Witness really is and the true nature of the conflict between The Traveler and himself. This is a story that is showing you that it’s going be told episodically over the next two years. Now you’re either up for the journey or not. But it isn’t like Witch Queen because it isn’t supposed to be like Witch Queen. I really struggle to understand this modern impatience and intolerance for process and waiting for things to evolve. Everything has to be RIGHT NOW!!!! Why?

I could've written a better story doped up on the meds they gave me after my surgery. I write Fan Fics of a lot of my favorite franchises. Mostly Destiny ones. But on rare occasions I dabble in other fandoms. I think it was lazy writing: Some how worse than the story of Curse of Osiris and I never thought that could be possible. What is the Veil? Why did we not fly up to the Witness ourselves and blow it away? Why can the Witness so easily access Ghosts shell like a puppet? What's on Enceladus? Why have we never before traveled to distant worlds of our solar system such as Pluto? What is the Traveller? What is the Witness? None of these questions got answers. We only got more questions. They need to resolve all of that in Final Shape. That puts a lot of stress on the narrative of the Final Shape that I doubt Bungie has the skill to live up to.

Edited by iKARUS: 3/23/2023 3:55:03 AMLightfall wasn't rushed. It was gutted because corporate probably saw yet again a micromanaged narrative that artificially stretched the story even longer so they didn't have to actually "work" on the story. Just like how everyone who doesn't know is afraid of Bungie has no idea or concept for the veil. But for sure do. They just cut that content. Cuz it's "still cooking" so to speak. It's just sad. Lightfall could've given them the praise and atta boy vibe they wanted and deserved (the dev team) but corporate and the pushover/lazy leads just nod and pass it on. It's just... Sad

That team? Obviouly went back to Activision ...
-
It's WWE level writing at this point.

They have been resigned. To what? We don't know. I think that they are on MATTER.

Guardian,Archon Of Light
Blade Of The Traveler - old
Witch Queens story didn't matter in the end, so it is filler -
Bungie only defense is that they postponed WQ for a few months, giving them more dev time.

Are you also putting the difficulty of RON and the Immortal’s balance in PvP on the shoulders of the writing team? I was digging this season’s more serious tone. I don’t even mind Amanda being killed. We’ve gone 2 years with barely even a villain dying. So it’s nice Bungie is willing to put stakes in the story again. It just feels so clunky though. They pretty much telegraphed this death from day 1 of this expansion. They do a fake out at the start of the campaign and season just to turn around and actually do it. I mean what happened to us, we were literally just there? Why did the cutscene show her dropping down into the room when we could already see her in the room before fighting the tormentor? This felt as sloppy as when an actor decides to leave a show in the middle of a season so they rush a character death story. Compared to the Redwar, Forsaken, and even witch Queen it just feels like Bungie has no time for story telling.

They graduated into middle school where their writing quality became worthy of better media like comic books?
-
All evidence points to this expansion being filler because they needed more time before final shape. Beginning and ending cutscenes of campaign are the same scene cut in half. and Amanda was supposed to die in the space battle

They wrote
