Can we talk about Celestial Nighthawk

First, I’m new to the forums, so sorry in advance if this is in the wrong place. But anyways, I’ve been seeing a lot of people agree that Celestial Nighthawk has been powercrept beyond belief, especially with things like Blade Barrage and Gathering Storm with Star Eaters. As somebody who uses Nighthawk religiously in PvE, I was disappointed to say the least with the damage output on Nezarec. So I wanted to ask y’all what you though would be useful to make Celestial Nighthawk viable for dps in endgame PvE again

  • Give back a third of your super for landing a precision hit instead of a kill and give it the ability to let you charge your super faster for chaining precision hits. Remove the explosion on kill because be honest, when have you actually gotten a kill with it? Lol

      Dont know what you call weak but against most bosses i hit close to around 300k damage with nighthawk, which i also use on my hunter quite alot, no idea if thats consider weak, but its like the equalivent of a full mag from a legendary liniar fusion rifle. Also the fact its a fast release so you can continue to rain down upon bosses with your other powerfull weaponary.

        What if they changed it to where if you hit your first 3 shots as crits you gained a forth shot that’s overcharged for increased crit damage equaling 3x the first shot. Kind of combining celestial with achlyophage……. [spoiler]……….too much 😅[/spoiler]

        • If they put triple tap on it increased the fourth shot to do the damage of all three shots and added PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT ON IT THEN IT WOULD BE GOOD. Sorry almost lost my cool there, but seriously it's my favorite exotic, looks dope as he'll, used to be fun, now it's just useless

            If you can kill what you hit with the shot, you get 1/3 of your super back. It's extremely high burst plus some recharge, so it's in a weird, but situationally effective, place. Interestingly it's actually pretty great in GM's if you need to wreck a champion because things are getting dicey. Last season it was dealing 40% of a champ's health, so if you just get him down to <40% and pop him with it, he dies with little effort and you get 2-3 minutes shaved off your next super. I don't think it needs to change because it's gone from being good at everything to being special, which is still a perfectly acceptable place.

            • It's a situational exotic. For instance, the 1st spire of the watcher boss only takes damage if you land a crit. So, in that instance, it's much better than BB+star eaters. Also, you want radiance active as it buffs its damage, but even still, it's below something like thunder crash + falling star or chaos + geo. A good way to buff it would be precision hits cause ignitions. This would add about 30k damage and add some AOE for adds near a boss.

              • I personally dislike hunters because they are the best class for pvp and with the scales they put out the most dps in pve but I admit, celestial nighthawk does need a buff. Its strictly a pve exotic so I have no issue with it dealing more damage. The geomags are in the same boat when it gets to pve, they need buffs.

                • Make the hit a critical no matter where it lands and reduce the super cooldown time. I don't know, just spitballing. I never use it because for it to be beneficial, you have to kill what you shoot, and who want's to wait until the boss has so little health that your kill is guaranteed? Maybe even reverse its perk. Make the super energy return if you don't kill your target? Who knows?

                  • I agree. It has fallen by the wayside by power creep. At this point I think it should give 2 shots. 1 shot should be selectable by an aspect. 2 when equipping Nighthawk

                  • Its a game engine issue Nova bomb does separate instances of damage but nighthawk does one at max damage and the game caps it so you are doing your damage but the game is only dropping a small amount of hp.

                  • Nighthawk used to be the go to exotic for raids, nightfall, you name it. Now it's a waste and I hate that. I still hold on to one in the hopes they buff it.

                    • When a celestial crit deals less damage than a base nova bomb you know something is wrong. Even 3 shot goldy outdamages celestial now.

                    • Only real way I can think of to buff it without completely re-working the exotic would be give more super energy back on precision hits, or just straight up more damage

                      • Celestial should just become/replace the 3 shot golden gun, be slightly buffed, and then have the helmet reworked to something else. Maybe increased damage from golden gun while airborne? Play into the hawk theme? IDK.

                      • To be blunt. It's a question of preference. Although to be blunt again. Some exotics just get outgrown by newer ones. Star Eaters has become the all around better for most supers.
