Threadlings are too Weak

As one of the distinct features of using strand, threadings hold little to no value right now. Warlocks can make the best of them simply because they can spawn them near constantly and in greater numbers. Aside from that though their ai is wildly inconsistent, their dmg is lackluster and the worst part of it is, they don’t interact with your armor mods at all. Two of three things needs to happen. The AI tracking needs to be drastically improved. Next they need to either do more dmg, or if not, they need to interact with the mod system consistently. I can understand the concern for having threadlings being too strong but as it stands now it’s a feature of the subclass that you can make builds around that literally end up nowhere. There’s multiple ways to make threadlings but only the normal grenade interacts with mods? The only way for them to be effective is to spawn several at a time? That’s only viable on warlocks and the trade off is too high considering how much better any other strand build could be.

  • I was about to disagree, but then you mentioned Warlocks, and I was like, totally fair. I main Warlock, and find the threadlings to be very useful. But, when I play something else like Titan, it's more of a suspension build.

  • Use osteo and suspend. Warlock super is very good though and has some of the best burst damage in the game

    • Warlock threadlings are strong enough. Especially with the swarmer boots. I am more worried about something else. Warlocks specialise in add clear with threadlings and unravel. Titans have the best grapple melee with synthoceps and the best suspend builds. Hunters have no speciality for strand ATM....hopefully the next aspect changes that.

      • I dunno, I've been using Broodweaver with a focus on Threadlings, and it's been holding up well in Contest, Legend, and Master content The only current weakness for Strandlock imo is that you can't get Woven Mail from neutral. Other than that, great class

        • I main warlock and was initially going to go for a threadling build with strand but suspend is too useful in the grenade slot. Between my rift and finishers they are still useful in PvE with the fragment that boosts their damage. They are mostly useless in crucible through as they are very easy to shoot and get rid of.

          • My biggest gripe is that there’s no way to tie a strand status like unravel or sever to them, and their pathing/target detection is atrocious. Yes I want all 8 of you to jump into the 1 red bar instead of the 3 yellow bars right in front of me.

            • As I see it, the strand ability set was designed in the old system before they nerfed everything into the ground, especially the hunter's kunai thing and threadlings. They were designed to combat enemies that didn't require a whole literal magazine to kill. And because now you basically have to reload for each new enemy yeah it's bad. Being honest with you I don't think these difficulty settings were play tested. Like even once, at all. I think that Bungle heard the streamers say they wanted their balls ground into sausage and fed to them and said "well, okay *blindly turns up all difficulty*" without concidering that all abilities, weapons, and abilities would need to be completely retuned for the new difficulty baseline. I don't mind everything doing -blam!- tons of damage, I just want things to die when I SHOOT THEM IN THE HEAD.

            • I was making different builds and yeah the threadlings are the weakest out of them all. Wolven builds provide the most damage resist in the game, suspend builds are insanely good for basically everything but threatlings? Easily the worst and weakest out of all 3 builds. I even made a full threatling build with the mods and the perks on the weapons but they are just kind of pointless. I can run osteo and necromatic grips with a suspend build and I can easily crowd control everything AND poison them all to death insanely fast. There is just no point in ever running the threatling builds.

            • They have the same problem as most abilities that consume a charge for a unique effect have, and it affects warlocks especially hard. Arc soul and bleak watcher turrets do the same thing where they are exclusively gained from ability usage, but don't count as their respective, or any, ability for the purpose of mods. Arc soul is especially bad because it's a mediocre standard turret at best with no energy recursion or additional effect, and threadlings are the same thing. They're effectively mobile dragonfly explosions that do nothing to affect the player or enemies outside of basic damage, the best they can do is get very lucky to keep spawning more of themselves on kill with certain fragments which is very rare.

              • Strand in general is pretty bad in that all best builds rely way too heavily on suspend. Once suspend gets nerfed next season(it will, not trying to sell Lightfall as much by then) strand will be dead.

              • I disagree however I’d still improve them in one small way. It’d be fun if Titans and Hunters had a max of 2 or 3 they could carry and/or if a Threadling returns to you and you can’t carry them(being a Hunter or Titan or having five already on Warlock) they should grant like a small amount of health or shield or something. Just a slight bonus. It could get pretty busted but I think it would work if balanced well.

                • Threadlings are fine. Use mods, gear, and artifact perks that buff them up. People want to abuse suspend, which will inevitably undoubtedly get the shackle nade nerfed, but it is also possible to suspend using tangle explosions.

                  • So what you can do is this to make them destroy everything. Eat grenade for 5. Get another Grenade charge. Create a Tangle, use the exotic Boots, use the fragment that makes Minions stronger.. Have full rift.. see Enemies, Cast rift for 8 Minions at once casted out, eat Grenade and shoot enemy to send out 5 more, and Tangle for 15 Minions out AT ONCE. It kills every champion. And crashes the game a lot lol. Eat Nade = 5 Tangle = 2 (with Exotic Boots) Grenade = 3 Rift = 3 So at any one time you can have 11 or 15 if you eat a grenade again and shoot enemy. I typically Hold 5, See a Champion, Cast rift for 8 and toss a tangle and Grenade for 5 more for 13 vs a Champion. The unstoppable s are the only ones you may not kill due to the AI missing sometimes.

                    • I think if the AI of them were a bit better, it would be S tier honestly. So long as you use it preemptively, you almost always have free damage in all CQ/short range engagements. It's gonna be hard for them to touch up without it being broken, but I think it can be done. Also I really hate the super. Wildly inconsistent in pvp and the animation is far too long.
