Primary damage in PvE is a joke on everything but SMGs. Fix it.

Go to a playlist, hell, go to Gambit and use a handcannon. It's legitimately depressing. At the bare minimum critical damage needs a big boost. Because spending an extra 100% of time on target isn't "bringing challenge to Destiny." It's bringing boredom and a complete abandonment of a third of your weapon pool. Challenge would be aiming and getting rewarding damage numbers. I have stinkface right now. I actually do. And it is going to stay this way until primaries are viable again. Save my face, Bungie. I need it for stuff. Buff.

    Now that you mention it. You have a point. Though that's mainly due to leveling which doesn't make it any better. How much of a buff you are looking for?

    • Now that I'm 1784 I can two shot a red bar Harpy with Le Monarch. I am so stoked! One day I hope to kill a Cabal with only four clips of auto rifle ammo, or maybe 15 rockets. I have big dreams.

      • Sidearms and Bows just need something small. Scouts just need moderate change Autos, Pulses, and Handcannons need a lot of help. In a new video Ehroar compares the new trials SMG damage to the RoN auto. Apparently it’s 60% less DPS from one to the other. SMGs and Sidearms need to have higher DPS to compensate for the reduced range, but that delta is too large. 15-20% would be a lot healthier. Hopefully this changes with the rumored mid-season primary balance patch

        • Idk what kind of trash cannon are you using but my Fatebringer still slaps. Same does my Trinity Ghoul, my Le Monarque, my Rufus's Fury, even my Quicksilver Storm (even with the bugged damage). Maybe just get better guns and stop using 180 RPM Hand cannons?

        • It's been well established that different guns are good at different things. While I took would like some buffs to some primaries, like auto rifles, hand cannons are a PvP-oriented weapon. Making 1 weapon archetype good at everything kills variety. Sorry, but I disagree. HCs are crucible guns.

            • love getting a hand cannon with great perks only to see it do absolutely nothing to any enemy outside of low level patrol dudes. every playlist and every raid is just guys running around with SMGs with next to no variety. Very unfun experience

            • Agree I've stuck to the same loadout since the DLC dropped. Osteo Striga is my primary; nothing else gets used. There's nothing like shooting one enemy for 5 mins; what a waste of time; boring. Days of feeling powerful as a guardian are gone; so is the magic and so is the FUN. Well done Bungie you've managed to run this game into the ground.

              • Weapons are fine the problem is no one plays together and uses strats. Get three guardians pumping outbreak perfected into everything and see how fast it's gonna melt. Players want to run through the content like before are dead almost everyone I see footsoildering in front of me in a hero nightfall are gonna need picked up rofl. This difficulty requires you to play like a sissy now. Most players want to run and gun. It's a lot harder to do now.

                • Funny thing is, is that ARS are pretty much the only good primary of the big 4 at actually damage orange and red bars, but they suck at red. Pulses feel like they suck -blam!- at everything because their body damage is abysmal while their headshots aren't good either. They need to make all primaries good man. It should be a preference + engagement situations that give them value. Like, I'm not bringing a scout to add clear in the new raid, but I'll use them in kings fall because it accommodates the weapons range more.

                • Step one. get void mods in artifact especially bricks from beyond and volatile orbs. Step 2. craft a subsistence + killing tally commemoration. Step 3. Erase everything on the screen. Profit. This MG eats adds all day long.

                  • It’s awful on smgs also. Double special is the meta rn. You can just replace primaries with trace rifles at this point

                    • That's just it, with them doing all this stupid difficult tuning it has negated alot of weapons to useless kinda like a nerf. auto rifles to pulse etc mostly not good.

                    • I’ve been using primaries pretty consistently throughout the whole expansion. You have to build and supplement their usage with other stuff like abilities, supers and your other weapons though. I feel like people are sleeping on weapon surge mods. Some weapons are 100% worse for wear right now though I can agree. Namely hand cannons, snipers, and scout rifles. Since TTK has gone up the break points in health (notably beefy red bars and low tier yellows) have made these weapons feel like such a slog.

                      • Makes me sad how many people in this thread are misinterpreting it so they can play the "git gud" card. I completely agree that legendary primary damage needs a drastic buff. It doesn't really matter if the game is hard or easy, 3+ second TTK values on common red bar enemies feels terrible and is not fun in any way. To those saying "just use abilities, specials, or heavies" I ask, then what is even the point of primaries?
